Canada-wide warrant issued for man accused of murder in Fort Providence, N.W.T.

CBC19-03-2025

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a man charged with murder following a shooting in Fort Providence, N.W.T., last weekend.
In a news release Wednesday afternoon, territorial RCMP said they have charged Krystian Cogswell, 22, with murder, attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
In the news release, RCMP said Cogswell, who is from Surrey, B.C., remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
Police responded to the shooting early Saturday morning and found a 31-year-old man dead and two other people injured. Earlier this week, RCMP said they believed the shooting was linked to the drug trade.
The shooting left people in Fort Providence and surrounding communities shaken and fearing for their safety.
Wednesday's news release said one of the injured people was transported to Fort Providence's health centre. The second injured person was airlifted to Yellowknife for emergency treatment.
RCMP said their investigation shows Cogswell "fled Fort Providence after the shooting and has likely made his way to points south of the territory." They said investigators "are actively seeking to locate him."

Hanover hit-and-run suspect vehicle found burnt: HPS

Hanover police have recovered the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier in the week. Police recovered a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Officers said it was destroyed by fire in a bush lot on Sideroad 25 just north of Morry's Trailer Sales, in the former Brant Township. The Hanover Police Service is asking anyone who saw the smoke, the vehicle, or anyone in the area on Wednesday evening around 5:20 p.m., shortly after the collision. Video surveillance is also wanted. You are asked to look for the PT Cruiser from Concession 4 to Morry's Trailer Sales on Sideroad 25 between 5:25 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. in your footage. The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30s, wearing a dark coloured baseball hat and was picked up by a vehicle on Bruce Road 4 near Davis Hill Nursery in the same timeframe. Anyone who saw the suspect is also asked to contact police. The registered owner of the involved car has been interviewed and is cooperating with the investigation. 'Although this person was the registered owner, they have never had care and control of this PT Cruiser since it was purchased,' police confirmed. Officers are thanking the public for their help with this investigation. The driver is encouraged to surrender to Hanover Police. Police added if anyone is helping the suspect in anyway, could be prosecuted criminally.

Winnipeg police arrest five people after gun pointed at passing cars

A Winnipeg Police Service shoulder badge is seen at a press conference in Winnipeg on Sept. 2, 2021. (THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski) The Winnipeg Police Service has arrested five people after investigating a gun incident. On June 12 just after 8:30 a.m., police said a man was seen pointing a handgun at passing cars near Burrows Avenue and McKenzie Street. He then ran inside a private residence in the 600 block of Alfred Avenue, according to police. Patrol officers along with the tactical support team and the remotely piloted aircraft systems unit found five people within the residence, who were safely arrested. A search warrant was executed, and with help from the firearms investigation and enforcement unit, a 12-gauge shotgun, a pellet gun, 'a large quantity of ammunition,' 'various firearms components,' and body armour were seized. Police said three of the arrested individuals were held in custody, who have all been charged with multiple firearms-related offences. A 35-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were also charged with firearms offences and were released on undertakings.
