Canada-wide warrant issued for man accused of murder in Fort Providence, N.W.T.
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a man charged with murder following a shooting in Fort Providence, N.W.T., last weekend. In a news release Wednesday afternoon, territorial RCMP said they have charged Krystian Cogswell, 22, with murder, attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. In the news release, RCMP said Cogswell, who is from Surrey, B.C., remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Police responded to the shooting early Saturday morning and found a 31-year-old man dead and two other people injured. Earlier this week, RCMP said they believed the shooting was linked to the drug trade. The shooting left people in Fort Providence and surrounding communities shaken and fearing for their safety. Wednesday's news release said one of the injured people was transported to Fort Providence's health centre. The second injured person was airlifted to Yellowknife for emergency treatment. RCMP said their investigation shows Cogswell "fled Fort Providence after the shooting and has likely made his way to points south of the territory." They said investigators "are actively seeking to locate him."
