Nagpur Man Robs 8 Liquor Shops After Losing Father To Alcohol Abuse
Man from Nagpur, targeted and stole from liquor shops to avenge his father's death from alcohol addiction. He was identified through CCTV footage and admitted to multiple thefts.
Angered by his father's death from alcohol addiction, a man in Nagpur, Maharashtra, allegedly targeted and stole from at least eight liquor shops.
On July 31, an incident of theft was reported from a bar in the city, with the complainant claiming it was to the tune of Rs 40,000. The thief's haul included Rs 36,000 in cash and packets of cigarettes as well.
Following a police complaint filed by bar owner Nilesh Devani, CCTV footage from the area helped identify the accused as Raja Khan. After losing his father to excessive drinking a few years ago, Khan reportedly developed resentment towards bar and liquor shop owners, NDTV reported.
'The police analysed CCTV footage, and in the CCTV footage we saw that the thief was of a small build, and he lifted the shutter and got in. We then apprehended him and questioned him," a police official said.
'When we questioned him, he said his father had died due to drinking, and his father used to frequent wine shops and bars. To avenge his father's death, he steals from bars. He admitted he had targeted other wine shops and bars as well," the police officer added.

Hyderabad: Man loses over Rs 12.75 lakh in house rental cyber fraud
Agency: Hyderabad, Aug 20 (PTI) A 28-year-old resident of Banjara Hills lost more than Rs 12.75 lakh after falling victim to a house rental fraud, in which cybercriminals allegedly posed as National Security Guard personnel, police said on Wednesday. The victim had posted an advertisement for his flat on a real estate portal on August 13 and was contacted the same day by a man claiming to be an NSG commando from West Bengal, stating he was being transferred to Hyderabad. To appear genuine, the fraudster shared fake identification documents and expressed interest in renting the flat, according to a release from Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. Later, another man, posing as the commando's senior officer, promised to pay an advance rent of Rs 80,000. Citing a 'special security protocol" reportedly introduced after the Pulwama terror attack, the fraudsters convinced the victim to make multiple Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) and UPI transfers, claiming it was necessary to 'raise a demand" for releasing the advance payment. Trusting 'the assurances", the victim made multiple transactions, losing Rs 12,75,711 before realising it was a scam. He immediately reported the incident to the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930). A case has been registered. They gain victims' trust by sending forged ID cards or service documents and claiming transfers to new cities. Using the pretext of 'special defence security protocols," they instruct victims to make IMPS or UPI transfers, promising the amount will be refunded along with advance rent. In reality, these are fraudulent transactions, resulting in losses of lakhs of rupees, the release added. Imran Khan nominates opposition leaders for National Assembly, Senate
Last Updated: Islamabad, Aug 20 (PTI) Pakistan's incarcerated former premier Imran Khan has nominated ethnic Pashtun politician Mahmood Khan Achakzai as opposition leader in the National Assembly and Azam Khan Swati as leader of the opposition in the Senate. The key positions held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz fell vacant following their conviction late last month in a case related to the May 9, 2023 violence. Khan, 72, is booked in several cases in Lahore in connection with the May 9 violence, including for allegedly inciting his supporters to attack government and military buildings. PTI secretary general Salman Akram Raja told reporters outside the Supreme Court about the nomination of Achakzai and Swati. 'These two have been nominated by Khan," he said. He also said that Khan asked for five names to decide the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, after Ahmad Khan Bhachar was convicted last month in a case related to the May 9 violence. Achakzai is chief of his Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party, which is part of opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), also headed by him. Khan also fielded him as presidential candidate of his party against the incumbent Asif Ali Zardari last year. Unlike Achakzai, the nominee for the position of the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Swati, is a senior PTI politician who is considered close to Khan. Khan, who was ousted from office in April 2022, has been in the high-security Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, since August 2023 after being convicted in a corruption case. He faces multiple legal cases, most of them filed after his removal from power. PTI SH GSP GSP view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. No fuel for motorists without helmets in JSR
1 2 Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday reinforced its 'no helmet no fuel, no seat belt no fuel' norm as part of its move to curb road accidents by effective implementation of traffic safety rules. For one week, officials will run awareness campaigns among motorists about the need to use helmets or seat belts while driving bikes and cars. Crackdown will begin thereafter, said officials. "We have asked the petrol bunk owners to install CCTVs at their respective premises so that the video footage of any motorist who comes violating the safety norms is recorded, and penal action will be taken accordingly," DSP (Traffic) Sriniraj Kumar said. Enforcement officials, including transport and traffic officials, held a meeting with pump owners on Tuesday wherein nitty-gritty of the exercise was discussed in detail. Pump owners were told to put up banners, posters, signages, and stickers at fuel stations so that motorists coming to the station became aware of the norm. Traffic police data showed 21 people were killed and 17 were injured in 46 road accidents which occurred between June and July this year. The police collected Rs 41 lakh in penalties from motorists for violating traffic rules, including not wearing a helmet and not putting on a seat belt, during this period.
