Davison County Sheriff's Department responds to minivan crash north of Mitchell
Apr. 30—LETCHER — The Davison County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene of a crash between a semi and a minivan on Tuesday, April 29, shortly after 4 p.m, north of Mitchell at Highway 37 and 245th Street.
Preliminary investigation indicates that both semi and van were headed north on Highway 37.
The minivan, a golden-colored Toyota Sienna, maneuvered from the left lane into the right lane in front of the semi. For reasons unknown, officials report, the minivan reduced speed by half, resulting in a collision between the semi and the minivan.
The driver of the semi, a 43-year old male, admitted to being distracted and not seeing the minivan slowing in his lane. The driver of the semi attempted to swerve left, but still struck the rear of the minivan.
The minivan ended up in the east ditch, while the semi slowed to a stop on the east median.
No one was transported to a hospital, but the driver of the minivan sustained some minor injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The crash is still under investigation by the Davison County Sheriff's Department.
A citation was issued to Brittany Dominguez, 32, of Canova, the driver of the minivan, for submitting a false report to law enforcement, according to Davison County Sheriff's Deputy Grant Lanning.
"Dash cam footage from the semi proved the minivan driver's multiple statements to be false," Lanning said.
