Udhayanidhi launches work on Phase 3 of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Project
The CPRR is being implemented to address the rapidly rising traffic woes in Chennai and improve connectivity for vehicles from southern parts of Tamil Nadu to Ennore and Kattupalli Ports, and neighbouring States to enhance industrial and commercial growth, a release said. The CPRR project, covering 132.87 km, is designed as an access controlled six-lane carriageway with two-lane service roads on either side, integrated with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
The third phase spans 30.10 km from the Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur. Under this, four bridges and one railway over bridge would be constructed. As of now, 35% of the work under Phase 1 of the project — extending from Ennore Port to Thatchur — and 65% of the work under Phase 2 — covering Thatchur to the start of the Tiruvallur Bypass — have been completed, the release added. Phase 4 covers 23.80 km from Sriperumbudur to Singaperumal Koil. This section has already been constructed with State funds. Preparation of a detailed project report to upgrade the section is under way.
Phase 5 covers 28.24 km from Singaperumal Koil to Poonjeri Junction near Mamallapuram, and land acquisition work is on.
Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports E.V. Velu and Minister for Minorities Welfare S.M. Nasar, among others, were present.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday directed officials to prepare a detailed report on the extensive damage caused to State and National Highways by recent heavy rains and floods. At a review meeting held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, officials informed the Minister that losses to the tune of ₹1,000 crore were reported, with several culverts, minor bridges and stretches of highways severely damaged. Komatireddy asked engineers to record the structural life of each asset and submit proposals for reconstruction where necessary. Assuring that the government would provide durable, high-quality roads through the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), the Minister said tenders would be floated shortly and works would commence as soon as the monsoon recedes. Taking stock of pending National Highway projects, he told officials to focus on securing early clearances from the Centre. He said he had already held discussions with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who had responded positively to the State's requests. Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju, who attended the meeting along with senior officials, submitted a representation seeking improvements to the Khanapur–Bellampalli and Utnoor–Gudiatnoor road stretches for which the Minister assured a favourable response.

Over 100 ‘unsafe' school buildings in Ernakulam
Nearly 110 buildings on the government and aided school campuses have been declared 'unsafe' in Ernakulam, according to the data compiled by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). A total of 72 government hospital buildings in the district have been declared unfit for use. Twenty-three buildings under the Department of Public Works have been found unfit or in need of demolition. The list was prepared based on a directive by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who had convened a high-level meeting in the first week of August. The meeting was held in the wake of the building collapse at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, that killed a 52-year-old woman and injured two others on July 3. According to the DDMA, the list also included four private buildings used as an accommodation facility for inter-State workers in the district. The authority has asked the Deputy Director of Education, Ernakulam, to initiate the required steps that include demolition of the unsafe buildings within a month. It has also issued similar directives to the District Medical Office, Department of Labour and the Department of Public Works. The management of aided schools that have reported the existence of unsafe buildings will have to comply with the directive. The government is expected to provide the funds needed towards the demolition of the unsafe buildings. The meeting convened by the Chief Minister had suggested that school demolitions should be scheduled during holidays. It had requested the local bodies, Parent-Teacher Associations, and the Education department to arrange temporary alternatives to ensure classes continue until new buildings are constructed.

Action will be taken against those who harass govt. officials, says Shivamogga DC
Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade said that legal action will be taken against those who assault government servants while on official duty and that the administration is committed to ensuring the safety of their staff. In a meeting over the grievances of government officials in Shivamogga on Thursday, Mr. Hegade said that it was the duty of every citizen to cooperate with the administration. If anyone attempted to obstruct officials from discharging their duty or assault them while on duty, the administration will take stern action against them, said a communique released from the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner further stated that there had been instances of officers getting harassed after seeking information under the Right to Information Act and placing demands before the officers. There were incidents of baseless allegations that came up against the officers, he added, while pointing out that the administration would treat such instances seriously. On the issue of providing official residences to officials in district centres and other cities in the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that he would discuss the issue with officers of the Public Works and take proper measures. District president of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association R. Mohan Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Siddalinga Reddy and others were present at the meeting.
