Carnival sets standard for region, say organisers
A carnival marking 20 years since it returned to a town sets the "standard" for the region, one of the organisers has said.
Northampton Carnival was a fixture in the town from the 1960s until the late 1990s, when it stopped running.
But in 2004 Northampton Carnival & Cultural Arts was formed, bringing back the event in 2005.
Myrle Roach, from the group, said the parade on Saturday "starts the carnival season off for the East Midlands".
The event opens at the Racecourse Park in Northampton from 12:00 BST until 19:30 with entertainment, food, arts and crafts and charity and information stalls.
The parade leaves the park at 14:00, heading down Kettering Road through the town centre, returning to the park via Wellingborough Road.
This year's theme is Earth, Wind, Fire and Water and will feature schools, community groups and carnival troupes.
Ms Roach told BBC Radio Northampton: "I don't see it in all its glory, but I get it set up and I get it on the road and for me that's really important because if I don't do that all the crowds in town and along the route won't have anything to see."
The Northampton Carnival is a member of the East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network, which includes the Nottingham, Leicester and Derby carnivals, which take place in July and August.
"Northampton has come to be the standard of East Midlands carnivals, we set the pace," added Ms Roach.

Basically to undermine how powerful he really is.' Gunn, who reportedly went back and forth on whether to keep the classic comic book look (even consulting Zack Snyder for perspective), was ultimately convinced by Corenswet's take. Gunn added: 'David saying that was like… But he really likes kids, and human beings, and people. He wants kids not to be afraid of him. And so that was the thing that made me decide to keep the trunks.' This is a design choice that hints at how this Superman might be a little more vulnerable, more thoughtful, and more self-aware of the impact his presence has on Earth. The red trunks become a disarming gesture, a kind of alien humility. Sure, why not!? The latest trailer that was released shows Superman going full superpowered Kryptonian blasting heat vision, soaring into orbit, and casually lifting skyscrapers. There's no doubt about the power level we're dealing with, but Gunn's version wants us to see the man before the myth… even if he is a 'terrifying creature.'

Sabrina Carpenter gets cheeky as she announces new album, ‘Man's Best Friend'
Sabrina Carpenter sure has been a 'Busy Woman.' Just a year after releasing 'Short n' Sweet,' the 'Espresso' singer has another album on the way. Carpenter took to Instagram Wednesday morning to announce 'Man's Best Friend,' due Aug. 29, along with its sultry (and divisive) cover art featuring the singer on all fours in front of a man pulling her hair. She also posted a close-up image of a dog whose collar is emblazoned with the album title, highlighting the cheeky play on words. Carpenter gave fans a taste of the new project last week with 'Manchild,' a twangy synth-pop track that sees the singer questioning, 'Why so sexy if so dumb? / And how survive the Earth so long?' Written with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff shortly after finishing 'Short n' Sweet,' the single has been compared to her songs '15 Minutes' and 'Busy Woman,' released earlier this year. 'It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll and it feels like a never ending road trip in the summer,' Carpenter said of 'Manchild' on Instagram. 'Hence why i wanted to give it to you now- so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long!' 'Manchild' is accompanied by a playful music video that shows the singer hitchhiking with various incompetent men and bathing with pigs in her bra and underwear.
