When will the official Eid Al Adha dates will be announced in Dubai?
Another public holiday is fast approaching in the UAE, and unsurprisingly, we're already looking forward to some well-deserved, government-mandated time off.
The next UAE public holiday is rapidly approaching, and we're already counting down the days.
Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha will officially give us four days off in June, but when exactly the break begins won't be revealed until at least Tuesday May 27.
Public holidays like Eid Al Adha move around the calendar every year as dates are tied to the Islamic Hijri calendar.
The Islamic calendar relies on the cycles of the moon, as opposed to the more widely used Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun.
Months in the Hijri calendar are all either 29 days long or 30 days long. The exact duration of each month isn't known until the 29th day and depends on whether or not the crescent moon can be seen.

Unlike Eid Al Fitr and Islamic New Year, Eid Al Adha does not fall on the first day of an Islamic Hijri month, and therefore, this time we'll know when it begins around a week in advance.
This particular Eid break begins on Dhu Al Hijjah 9 with Arafat Day before rolling into Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11 and 12 for Eid Al Adha.
So when exactly is Eid Al Adha 2025?

Dhu Al Hijjah is the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar and comes directly after the current month of Dhu Al Qa'dah.
Dhu Al Qa'dah began on Tuesday April 29, and once we find out when the month of truce ends, we'll then be able to confirm the beginning of the Eid Al Adha holiday.
The latest astronomical predictions indicate that Wednesday May 28 will be the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah.
If Dhu Al Qa'dah is a 29-day month, then the final day of the month will be Tuesday May 27. This would then mean that the Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and the Eid Al Adha break would begin on Thursday June 5, giving us a four-day long weekend with Sunday June 8 being the final day of the holiday.
But if Dhu Al Qa'dah is a 30-day month, then the final day of the month will be Wednesday May 28. This would then mean that Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and the Eid Al Adha break would begin on Friday June 6, giving us a four-day long weekend with Monday June 9 being the final day of the holiday.

DUBAI, June 3 (Reuters) - Here is a look at the hajj, one of the largest mass gatherings in the world, which starts in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. * The hajj is an annual pilgrimage that millions of Muslims make to Mecca with the intention of performing religious rites as taught by the Prophet Mohammad to his followers 14 centuries ago. * The fifth pillar of Islam, the hajj is mandatory once in a lifetime for every able-bodied Muslim who can afford it and is the most significant manifestation of Islamic faith and unity. * The hajj begins in the 12th month of the Islamic year, which is lunar, not solar, meaning the hajj and the fasting month of Ramadan fall at different times of the solar calendar each year. * A quota system for visitors to Mecca was introduced in 1987, agreed by member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, to limit the number allowed by each country to 0.1% of its population. * Stampedes, tent fires and other accidents have caused hundreds of deaths over the past 30 years, forcing the Saudi government to build new infrastructure. In 2011, Saudi Arabia began the biggest expansion yet of the Grand Mosque of Mecca to increase its capacity to 2 million. This year, Arafat Day has been confirmed for Thursday June 5, following an announcement by the UAE's moon sighting committee. Arafat Day, also known as the Day of Arafah, holds great significance for Muslims around the world. Why do we have Arafat Day off? Typically, Muslims all around the world, who are not in Mecca doing the pilgrimage, will fast on Arafat Day. It is not mandatory, but it is preferred.
