Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition Puts a Slice of the 'F1' Movie in Your Garage

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition Puts a Slice of the 'F1' Movie in Your Garage

Yahoo04-05-2025

The F1 movie is coming in June this year, and for potential wealthy super fans, Mercedes-AMG revealed an APXGP Edition of the AMG GT 63 Coupe on Saturday night of the 2025 Miami GP weekend.
Mercedes only plans on building 52 of these special edition coupes for worldwide consumption. The APXGP (the made-up team that Brad Pitt drives for in the F1 movie) Formula 1 car livery serves as inspiration for the design of this road car, which means black with a lot of gold accents. Mercedes says there will be an AMG GT featured in the movie, but makes no mention of its appearance.
The matte black base paint is broken up by Race Gold elements throughout the entire car. You'll notice the hand-painted Race Gold on the grille surround, front fenders (in a checkered flag motif), side sills, rear apron, and rear diffuser. Its 21-inch forged wheels are finished in matte Race Gold, while the brake calipers contrast with a glossy black paint. And yes, the car is fitted with the optional carbon ceramics as standard equipment.
We were slightly surprised to see the APXGP Edition be based on the standard AMG GT 63 – fitted with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that pumps out 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque – and not the more track-focused Pro model, given its natural ties to the racetrack. That said, it still comes with the AMG Carbon Fiber package and AMG Aerodynamics package, both of which are optional extras on the standard GT 63. Lastly on the exterior, the AMG Extended Night package is fitted, utilizing black chrome for many of the exterior elements to better match the black and gold color combo.
The same aesthetic carries inside where you get black Nappa leather/microfiber seats with gold stitching. Mercedes goes so far as to use gold-colored thread in the carbon fiber trim. The door sills are anodized black, but feature a gold illumination, and even the floor mats are unique with an APXGP logo in Race Gold. To finish it off, a plaque denoting which of the 52 cars you're sitting in is placed on the center console.
Mercedes didn't reveal a price, but expect it to be considerably more expensive than the standard AMG GT 63 that starts at $180,200.

BMW X3 Generations: All The Major Updates Across Four Generations

The BMW X3 followed the X5 as the brand's first compact luxury crossover. While this was still a novel segment for BMW to enter in the early 2000s, it's almost unimaginable for any current luxury automaker not to have a compact crossover in its lineup, such is the popularity of this type of vehicle. Now in its fourth generation, the X3 has changed - and grown - considerably, while also regularly outselling all other BMW models in the United States. Let's take a closer look at each generation of this SUV. Sold between the 2004 and 2010 model years in the USA, the X3 became popular for its nimble size, sharp handling, and smooth six-cylinder engines. In this market, both 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated engines were available, and you could even get a manual X3 back then. Originally, the more powerful six-pot made 225 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive was standard, while the optional xDrive system featured variable torque distribution between the front and rear. Later in 2006, a facelift introduced styling revisions to the headlights, grille, taillights, and bumpers. However, looking at all the E83 BMW X3 models by year, it was never a particularly pretty SUV. Although more affordable than the X5, the X3 didn't do a great job of hiding its lower price. The jarring plastic cladding around the body looked cheap, and in no way indicated decent off-roading abilities; Jeremy Clarkson infamously got stuck in the mud in a first-gen X3. Interior quality was no match for the X5 and the ride was far too harsh. It may have been popular, but the E83 failed to live up to BMW's high standards in too many areas. The second-gen X3 ran from the 2011 to 2017 model years in the USA. This was a generation that attempted to right many of the E83's wrongs. Not only did it look more premium, but the F25 felt that way, too, with a refined interior. Efficiency was much-improved for the F25, thanks to new four-cylinder turbo engines, including a diesel that returned 30 mpg combined. Higher up in the range, this gen received BMW's potent 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which initially made 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. However, the manual transmission was gone, leaving only an eight-speed across the range. The great naturally-aspirated six-cylinder was last equipped to the X3 for the 2012 model year. BMW's facelift for this X3 was implemented for the 2014 model year. Besides the usual smattering of styling upgrades, new interior materials and a few additional features were introduced. In 2016, the X3 surpassed annual US sales of 40,000 units for the first time. The F25 was a welcome improvement over the first gen, but it had to be, since Mercedes-Benz released the first GLC-Class in 2015. Newer isn't always better, but in the case of the G01 X3, it's safe to say that this was the best X3 yet. It was perhaps the first X3 that was so accomplished, you had to question whether spending more on the X5 was worth it. In production from the 2018 to 2024 model years, the G01 BMW X3 models featured handsome styling, a high-quality interior with BMW's improved iDrive setup, and an array of powerful yet efficient powertrains. A plug-in hybrid version of this X3 paired a four-cylinder turbo with an electric motor, and allowed for 18 miles of electric-only driving. At the other end of the scale, BMW really pushed the performance envelope of this X3. The M40i's six-cylinder engine produced 382 hp, and if that wasn't enough, a full-fat X3 M was introduced for the first time. The latter made up to 503 hp and was startlingly quick for a compact crossover. This BMW X3's model year changes were subtle, until the substantial facelift for 2022, which introduced much sleeker styling. There isn't much that the G01 did wrong, which is why BMW USA sold over 75,000 of them in 2021, the best performance across all BMW X3 generations. While the X3 has generally been one of BMW's least polarizing models, choosing evolution over revolution, the G45 is quite a departure. It sports a bold but less cohesive look, with criss-crossing lines in its upsized grille and a total rethink inside the cabin. For now, it's only available with two engines: A 2.0-liter turbo-four or a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo with 393 hp. AWD and an eight-speed automatic are standard. It's inside where the newest X3 takes a few missteps. Yes, it has a blazing-fast and bright Curved Display, but gone are the user-friendly physical controls in the old X3. Quality has taken a dive, too; instead of classy wood or aluminum inlays, BMW has relied too heavily on garish lighting to create a sense of occasion. When everything is switched off, the cabin is plain to look at. However, trading old-school luxury and usability for tech isn't unique to BMW - Mercedes and Audi have gone down a similar path. We expect the G45 BMW X3's redesign years to fix some of these issues, but that probably won't happen before 2027. Despite all that's changed, the G45 looks likely to continue being one of the most popular models in the BMW stable. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Every WWDC should end with a song composed of app reviews

Partway through WWDC 2025, I started tracking every time I heard the word "delightful." I might have missed a few, but there were at least eight times when some exec was insisting to me that an element of the upcoming iOS 26, macOS Tahoe and Apple's other platforms merited the adjective. And maybe some people truly do feel unfettered joy about UI design, but that's the sort of attitude in these events that makes me roll my eyes. Apple always tries very hard to inject levity and personality into its keynotes. Most of the time, that winds up leaning on cringe from Craig Federighi, who seems quite affable about being the punchline. Sometimes I smirk a little, but again, more often than not, it's another eye-roll. That was the case this year, as Apple bludgeoned us with a tie-in for its upcoming F1 movie , which already leans pretty hard on product placement. Then there's the developer devotion. Yes, Apple needs devs to use its tools and programs. Yes, the company can and should give them some kudos. But sometimes, the adulation that I've heard heaped on the WWDC audience in the past is so cheesy, so over-eager that it flies way past sincerity and into schlock. Just as I was ready to turn off the stream, the curtain rose on a grand piano. And to my surprise, the final three minutes of a full band performing real reviews of apps became the actual highlight of WWDC for me. This isn't an original idea. Reviews, good and bad, are well-mined fodder for comedians and social media content. Jimmy Fallon, James Corden and others have made musical gags a staple of recent late night talk shows. But the way Apple decided to do it this year was, in a word, delightful. Each review was heartfelt or dopey or both; see "saved my marriage" for Citymapper and "If this doesn't win best app of the year, I'll eat my shoe" for Lost in Play. It took the essential internet wisdom of "don't read the comments" and turned it into gold. This silly little song managed to do everything Apple wants to do at WWDC in a really amusing package. It's the dev props, it's the splashy production, it's legit entertainment. For anyone who, like me, was actually humming the tune even after the stream ended, the video is up as a standalone on YouTube and was performed by soul/R&B singer Allen Stone. And to whatever producer came up with this idea: you have my utmost appreciation. Six out of five stars indeed.

Canadian GP Faces Wildfire Threat Ahead of F1 Race Weekend

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Formula One's upcoming Canadian Grand Prix faces a significant threat from last week's wildfires. However, the threat is not from the fire but from the smoke being emitted that has blanketed large areas. With more than 200 locations said to be affected, the air quality worsened to an alarming level. The situation led many to question whether F1 would go on with the race, considering the smoke from the wildfires that covered the circuit last week. Poor air quality could affect breathing and even cause other respiratory illnesses. The scale of the disaster is evident from the BBC's report, which states that smoke from the wildfires caused orange skies in the United Kingdom. Speaking of the Grand Prix in Canada, which is scheduled for this weekend, a report from confirmed that there are no plans in place to cancel the race, considering the present situation. Lando Norris of Great Britain driving the (4) McLaren MCL38 leads Max Verstappen of the Netherlands driving the (1) Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 9, 2024 in Montreal, Canada. MoreAccording to IQAir, the current air quality in Montreal is 97 US AQI, which is forecast to decrease below 60 from Thursday. Thus, F1 teams will most likely adhere to their schedules and arrive in Canada on Wednesday. Track action will commence on Friday with Free Practice 1 and 2. The third practice session will take place on Saturday, followed by the qualifying session. The Grand Prix will be held on Sunday. Both McLarens are expected to be the favorites, especially given the 1-2 finish in the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Red Bull's Max Verstappen is also expected to be in the mix. The 2025 championship leader, Oscar Piastri, has showcased stellar performances so far, and his flawless performance in the previous round at Barcelona suggests there's more to come. Speaking after the race in the post-race interview, Piastri said: "I think the pace was really good. We could turn it on when we needed to and just very proud of the work we've done this weekend. It wasn't the best first practice and then we got our stuff together and, yeah, it's a nice way to bounce back from Monaco. So, been a superb weekend." Speaking on his fifth win of the season at the Spanish GP, he said: "Hard to complain. Yeah, very hard to complain. It's been a great year and this weekend's been exactly the kind of weekend I was looking for. You know, we executed everything we needed to when it counted and that's all you can ask for. So, the team gave me a great car once again. "It's a lot of fun winning races at the moment. So, I've been enjoying it, and I hope the team are too. So, thanks to the crowd for being out here. It's been a great weekend, a lot of support out here. A lot of traffic as well, but that's the sign of a lot of fans. So, it's nice to be here."
