QSolar Tawau LSS project boosts Sabah's electricity grid capacity
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the solar farm development is expected to generate 15 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, thus stabilising the state's grid system, which is currently still dependent on diesel and natural gas-based power generation.
'This project will not only solve the electricity supply issue, especially on the East Coast, but also shape a cleaner, more stable and resilient energy future by 2026...this project will balance the energy distribution between the west and east coasts of the state,' he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the LSS Q-Solar Tawau project in Jalan Timur here today.
The text of the speech was read out by Assistant Minister to the Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
Hajiji said the implementation of the project was in line with the state's Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan (SERAMP), which is the long-term roadmap for the transformation of Sabah's energy sector
The development of the LSS project, he said, would bring various economic benefits to the local community, including investment and job creation through various phases such as the construction and operation of solar farms.
'Local youth will also be given special training to manage and maintain this solar system, and this proves that this project is not temporary, but aims to build long-term local capacity,' he added.
He expressed hope that the project could be completed according to schedule and have a positive impact on the people and the state.
The RM60 million QSolar Tawau LSS project was developed through a strategic collaboration between Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, Qhazanah Energy Sdn Bhd and QSolar Tawau Sdn Bhd. - Bernama

PUTRAJAYA: The government is conducting a structured assessment to explore the role of nuclear energy as a potential source of clean, stable and competitive electricity in the country's future energy mix. This initiative considers the need to diversify energy sources, strengthen long-term energy security, support carbon emission reduction targets, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, in line with Malaysia's climate change commitments and rising energy demand. "Its implementation will be guided by the IAEA Milestone Approach, which includes national positioning, the development of legal and regulatory frameworks, stakeholder engagement and human capital development," it said in a statement today. However, it said that no decision has been made at this stage regarding the implementation, type of technology or capacity of any nuclear reactor to be developed. The ministry said the government's priority is to ensure that any future decision is based on comprehensive technical analysis and aligned with national development priorities, while also complying with international obligations. "This is in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises long-term national planning that is grounded in knowledge, sustainable resource use and the well-being of the people and future generations." On Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said the government is considering nuclear energy as one of the safe, competitive and clean energy sources for the future. Penang launches RM296m GBS By The Sea in Technoplex Bayan Lepas
GEORGE TOWN: Penang continued to cement its status as a global business and technology hub with the official launch of 'GBS By The Sea', a landmark RM296 million development located in Technoplex Bayan Lepas. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow hailed the project as a bold statement and a clear example of Penang's transition into a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. He said GBS By The Sea is the fourth project under the global business services (GBS) initiative, spanning 290,000 square feet (sq ft) of space. 'The GBS By The Sea facility is already fully occupied, with three global industry leaders, namely Advanced Micro Devices Global Services (AMD), Celestica Platform and Cloud Solutions Malaysia and the Microsoft Knowledge Capital Centre. 'These global companies are not only investing in Penang, but they are also creating over 1,000 quality jobs for our local talent in areas like research and development (R&D), engineering, digital services and more. TAWAU (Aug 2): The State Government continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainable energy development through the launch of the Tawau Q-Solar Large-Scale Solar (LSS) project, expected to generate 15 megawatts (MWac) of clean energy by the end of 2026. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, said this high-impact project on a site of over 45 acres is being developed through a strategic collaboration between Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB), Qhazanah Energy Sdn Bhd (QESB) and QSolar Tawau Sdn Bhd (QSolar). He said that the solar project not only serves as a major driver of energy stability in the eastern region of the state but also demonstrates the state government's ongoing commitment to providing a sustainable development ecosystem in line with efforts to make Sabah a leader in renewable energy. 'We are not just looking to solve electricity supply issues, especially in the East Coast, but are striving to shape a cleaner, more stable and resilient energy future,' he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Q-Solar Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Project at Jalan Timur, Kubota on Saturday. He said the development of this project also brings economic benefits to the local community, not just in terms of construction and investment, but also through job creation and local capacity development. He stated that the construction, operation and maintenance phases of this solar farm are expected to generate various job opportunities, while construction work and supporting services will involve local contractors and suppliers in Tawau. 'Local youths will also be provided with specific training to manage and maintain this solar system. This proves that the project is not temporary, but aims to build long-term local capacity,' he said. He noted that the aspects of technology transfer, skill development and direct involvement of the people of Sabah in the green energy sector, will serve as a catalyst for more progressive and inclusive economic growth. Hajiji also described this project as a starting point for changing the energy industry landscape in Sabah, particularly on the East Coast. He applauded the active role of QSB and QESB, as a strategic state investment entity by supporting government policies and contributing to sustainable energy development in Sabah. 'Ensuring the welfare of the people is the responsibility of the government today, and I hope this project can be completed on schedule and have a positive impact on the people and this state,' he said.
