Murder of university student in Cyberjaya sparks online outcry

KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens have expressed outrage and grief over the murder of a university student in her Cyberjaya dormitory, sparking widespread calls for swift justice.
Strong criticism erupted after the body of a 20-year-old university student was discovered on Tuesday morning, with netizens questioning campus housing security.
Cyberjaya, a tech-driven city located about 30km south of Kuala Lumpur, is known as the country's Silicon Valley and home to several universities, startups and multinational offices.
Online users expressed anger over the incident, questioning the safety of student accommodations.
"She was reportedly murdered in her own university hostel — the one place she should've been safe. How many more lives need to be lost before anyone pays attention?" wrote @Heaymaaa on X.
Many pointed to Mutiara Ville, the condominium where the student lived, as a hotspot of neglect and insecurity.
"The hostel is just a cheap way for the university to squeeze money out of students. The place is practically abandoned — just running water and electricity, that's it," wrote @aeiman_r.
"I've been there once and it's probably the dodgiest place in Cyberjaya. Dark, no CCTV, barely any guards — like something out of a horror movie," said @adryantjs.
One user criticised the building's lax security, saying it was far too easy for outsiders to slip in undetected.
"The hostel's security is weak. The access card only works for the entrance, parking and lift, but anyone on foot can sneak in. Some entry points are completely deserted. No card for the lift? Just take the stairs," said @peulreiiii.
Several users warned that the issue wasn't limited to Mutiara Ville, but reflected wider safety lapses in student housing.
"For those living in Cyberjaya, please stay safe. This isn't the first time a student, especially a female student has been assaulted.
The area is shady, poorly lit and dangerous to walk alone," wrote @tengu1st.
"It's terrifying, you can't even feel safe while trying to study," @obviouslyherr commented.
The fact that the murder happened at a college-affiliated residence intensified the backlash.
"Rest in peace. She came from Kuching to chase her dreams. They failed to protect her—not in some private flat, but in the college hostel," wrote @balraj2610.
The student's death has sparked widespread calls for justice, with netizens demanding swift action against the perpetrator.
"Once they catch the killer, send them straight to the gallows. No need for drawn-out defences," said @shun666dmn.
"May her soul rest in peace. Hopefully the killer is caught soon and punished accordingly," added @FrancisHulter.
The 20-year-old Bachelor of Physiotherapy student at Cyberjaya university, was found dead in her unit at Mutiara Ville on Tuesday morning.
Police confirmed she died from blunt force trauma to the head. There were no signs of forced entry. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and a manhunt has been launched.
