Patna:
Healthcare services
at
AIIMS-Patna
remained affected for the third consecutive day on Sunday as resident doctors continued their strike against the alleged high-handedness of Sheohar MLA
Chetan Anand
.
Representatives of the
Resident Doctors Association
(RDA) have called a general body meeting on Sunday to discuss their future course of action.
A delegation of the RDA members met with senior officials of the hospital on Saturday as efforts are being made to break the logjam.
"During the meeting, we were given assurances. We demand full transparency and accountability through the immediate public release of the CCTV footage related to the incident. This is essential to ensure truth prevails and justice is served," the RDA said in a statement on Saturday.
"The administration assured us of full institutional legal assistance for resident doctors and security staff who have been falsely implicated. The administration also assured us that the process to install CCTV cameras in high-risk areas such as the Trauma Centre, Emergency Department, Labour Room, and ICUs will be initiated within 72 hours," it added.
The RDA said that it was demanding the immediate quashing of the "false FIR" against a doctor.
"We demand the invocation of sections of the Arms Act in the investigation, considering the grave threat posed by the presence of weapons in a healthcare setting," it said, adding that the strike will continue "until further notice".
Emergency, OPD and other services were affected as a result of the strike.
The RDA had earlier alleged, "The MLA, his wife and his armed guards forcibly entered the hospital area, physically assaulted security staff, threatened resident doctors with death and brandished a firearm within hospital premises. A hospital guard was brutally injured, and resident doctors were subjected to threats and abuse inside their own workplace."
Anand, the RJD-turned-JD(U) legislator, had lodged a police complaint, alleging that staffers of AIIMS-Patna misbehaved with him and his wife during a visit to the hospital on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, he told PTI that he and his wife were mistreated by hospital staffers when they went to visit a supporter admitted to the facility.
"My wife and I went to see one of my supporters admitted at AIIMS on Wednesday night. I was not allowed to enter the hospital with my security guard. This prompted my wife to intervene," he had said.
"At that moment, other staff members came and started misbehaving with my wife. They literally thrashed her. I had to intervene. My wife sustained injuries to her wrist and back. I was also held hostage by the staffers for some time. Finally, we went to the local police station and lodged a complaint," he added.
The MLA's mother, Lovely Anand, is the JD(U) MP from the Sheohar Lok Sabha seat.
Both sides have filed FIRs in connection with the incident, police said, noting that an investigation is underway.

Man shot dead in Delhi's Nand Nagri by friend's brother

A 28-year-old man was shot dead on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday by the brother of his friend in Delhi's Nand Nagri, police said. The 20-year-old accused, identified as Shivam Yadav, has been arrested, they said. 'On the night intervening August 8 and 9, a firing incident was reported at Nand Nagri police station. Upon reaching the spot, the police team found that a man, later identified as Kapil, had been shot by another who fled the scene after the incident. The man was taken to GTB Hospital, where he was declared 'brought dead' by the doctors,' DCP (North East) Ashish Mishra said. The deceased was friends with Shivam's sister, a police officer said, adding that he had allegedly also passed a remark on the accused's wife. Enraged, the accused killed Kapil, police said. 'On Friday night, Kapil was at a tailor's shop when Shivam arrived. They got engaged in a conversation. Soon after, Shivam pulled out a gun, and shot Kapil on the forehead,' an officer said. Kapil, police said, lived in Nand Nagri's C block with his family, and repaired ACs for a living. Kapil was rushed to the hospital by his brothers. Police analysed the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area and subsequently arrested Shivam, also an AC mechanic from Nand Nagri. 'Shivam Yadav was arrested by a police team, led by Nand Nagri SHO,' DCP Mishra said. 'A case under Section 103(1) of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered at Nand Nagri police station. Senior officers examined the crime scene, and forensic teams inspected the spot and collected evidence,' DCP Mishra said. Kapil is survived by his mother, three brothers and two sisters, police said, adding that his father Suresh passed away around four months back.

Brother's Rakshabandhan plan: Confront sister's husband with gun

Ahmedabad: Rakshabandhan is a day meant to protect the bond between siblings, but for a family from the city, it nearly became the setting for gunfire. The special operation group of the crime branch arrested a 23-year-old man and recovered a country-made pistol and eight cartridges, that he was allegedly planning to use to "confront" his brother-in-law for marrying his sister against the family's wishes. Police said that his sister's marriage to a man from another community in Odhav village, without the family's consent, had left him seething. "He felt that she had brought dishonour to the family and decided to take matters into his own hands and threaten his brother-in-law with the gun," said police. The SOG says it acted on a timely tip-off. While on patrol, officers received information that the 23-year-old was on the move with firearms. A watch was kept, his vehicle intercepted, and a search revealed the pistol and ammunition wrapped in a plastic bag. The youth, police said, claimed that he only intended to threaten his brother-in-law. But with eight cartridges ready, investigators are not ruling out the possibility of a planned killing. According to the police, he bought the weapon and ammunition from a friend for Rs 40,000, transferring the payment online. The city crime branch registered a case under the Arms Act against Bharwad on Saturday. The complaint was registered by DCB staff Mukesh Kana. The cops are now searching for the friend to find out where he got the firearm. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
