A Celestial Event
Episode 1 of Untamed Season 1 starts with two rock climbers working their way up a sharp ravine. Suddenly, a woman comes crashing towards them. Her body gets caught in their line, and they nearly fall. Thankfully, their quick thinking and expertise saved them.
Elsewhere, we are introduced to Kyle, who is with his son as he checks out a likely bear poaching case. His son asks if they can go swimming, but Kyle gets a call. He apologises to his son and leaves to check out the crime scene.
At the scene, the rangers are able to save the two rock climbers. One of them, Milch, is unhappy to see Kyle turn up. He tells Maya that Kyle is from the Investigative Service Branch and is technically their boss. Milch takes offence when Kyle starts questioning the witness instead of asking the rangers first.
After the witnesses report that they saw and heard nothing, Kyle decides to drop down the hill and check out the body.
He notices some odd wounds on the victim, including a bracelet that falls off after he touches it. Afterwards, he takes pictures of the body. Unfortunately, since there is a storm coming, Kyle wants to bring up the body immediately.
With time running out, the team recovers the body and assesses the wounds. It looks like Jane Doe was attacked by coyotes. It is also possible she was running from something. Kyle checks the grounds and finds bloody hand and footprints.
Later, the medical examiner examines the body and explains it will be hard to determine the manner of death. Jane Doe's body went through a lot. He also notices the golden X tattoo on her arm. Although it looks like Jane Doe was running barefoot from coyotes, Kyle thinks there is more to it than that.
At the office, Souter asks Kyle to try to play nice with the other rangers. He warns Kyle to go easy on the bourbon, too. As they talk, Lawrence joins them. He is angry that the news of Jane Doe's death has reached the media.
He's worried that an animal attack would scare people away and lead to bankruptcy. Kyle doesn't care since he is not under Lawrence's department. Lawrence also wants Kyle to get back to Sanderman's lawyer. Sanderman went missing five years ago, and his lawyer has been trying to reach out to Kyle with no response.
Later that night, Kyle takes his house to search for Jane Doe's bracelet. He then calls his ex-wife, Jill, to remind her about the meteor shower on Thursday. Jill is displeased to get the call at 2 am and worries since Kyle is drunk.
The following morning, Naya drops by Kyle's house. She explains that Souter sent her to help Kyle with the Jane Doe case. Kyle doesn't buy her explanation, but lets her into the house. Naya notices that most of Kyle's belongings are in a box. She wonders if he is moving in or out. She spots a picture of Kyle's son and reveals she has a four-year-old son, too.
Back to the case, she tells him that Jane Doe's prints have had a hit on their system. This means they have yet to identify her. Kyle believes Jane Doe seems familiar and asks Naya to check the employees' records at the park. Since they are partnered up, Kyle insists they take the horses, much to Naya's chagrin. They ride the horses, trying to pick Jane Doe's trail. Luckily, Kyle knows the park like the back of his hand.
Their search leads them to an old hunting shack. There, they find more bloody hands and footprints. They also find some strange carvings on the wooden walls. As they search, a bear nearly attacks Naya, but Kyle scares it away.
Later, they come across a bloody shoe and collect it as evidence. Deeper in the woods, they find more blood and a bullet stuck in the woods. This leads them to believe that Jane Doe was shot. A quick call to the medical examiner confirms that Jane Doe was shot in her left foot.
Kyle and Naya realise that Jane Doe was not only running away from the coyotes and for now, he asks Naya to keep their findings to themselves. After returning home, Kyle finds Jill waiting for him. She expresses her concern about his late-night drunk calls.
Kyle denies he is in trouble and asks if Jill's new husband is a good father. The conversation turns to Jane Doe's case, and Jill offers to help with his theories.
Later, Jill calls Souter and shares her concern about Kyle. Souter invites her to a party at his house later that weekend. He also mentions that their granddaughter is currently living with them since her mom got into trouble.
Back at Kyle's house, he watches his son draw and realises Jill helped him rearrange the words on Jane Doe's bracelet. This gives him a lead, and it turns out that the bracelet is a park freebie.
At Naya's house, she hangs out with her kid and complains about her backache. Riding horses is not for the weak! The following day, Kyle updates her on the bracelet lead and asks her to follow up.
Based on the wall carvings. Kyle believes they need to look into natives as well. He takes a ride to meet with the native chief to ask about Jane Doe. Sadly, the chief knows nothing.
In the evening, Naya is still searching the database, looking for a lead. Her ex sends her a message, reminding her that he can't keep him away from his child forever. This message throws Naya into a panic. At Kyle's house, his son asks to watch the meteor shower. At Jill's house, she watches the meteor shower and cries.
In a shocking twist, we see Souter telling his granddaughter about Kyle's son, Caleb. Apparently, Kyle's son died years ago. The scene cuts to Kyle talking to Caleb as they watch the meteor shower. However, when the chief drops by, we see Kyle is by himself.
Kyle asks the chief to read the sky. The chief says that it is a sign that death is back, and the bodies will fall like the stars in the sky.
The Episode Review
Caleb's death must have heavily affected Kyle. It is a parent's worst nightmare, and he is drowning in grief. For five years, he has been hallucinating his son and drinking his pain away.
He probably blames himself for what happened and believes he let Caleb down. He is also mourning the death of his marriage, and watching Jill with her husband must hurt. Souter mentioned Kyle's drinking habits, and it is concerning if he is drinking on the job.
While he is familiar with the park, he might end up hurt if he is drunk.
In the meantime, Naya is running from her ex, but will he catch up with them? What is her story? On the other hand, this Jane Doe mystery is intriguing. What was she running from, and how did she end up dead, hanging over a cliff?
Overall, this episode gave us some beautiful, aesthetic shots of the park. From afar, it looks idyllic, almost like a paradise. However, once you start looking into the secrets that lie within, you will be surprised.

US manhunt for 'dangerous' murder suspect who dropped off baby after four relatives found dead

A car has been found during the search for a man suspected of killing the parents, grandmother and uncle of a baby girl found abandoned in a US state. Austin Robert Drummond, 28, is suspected of having murdered four relatives in Tennessee - James M Wilson, 21, Adrianna Williams, 20, Cortney Rose, 38, and Braydon Williams, 15, who were identified on Wednesday. Mr Wilson and Adrianna Williams were the parents of the infant found alive in a car seat in a front yard on Tuesday afternoon. Police say Drummond then dropped off the baby and made people aware of the child, in an act of "compassion". However, officers added Drummond remains on the run and should be considered "armed and dangerous". Ms Rose was Adrianna and Braydon Williams' mother, according to District Attorney Danny Goodman. No details have been given on how they were murdered. Drummond dropped off the seven-month-old infant and brought attention to people nearby to come get the child, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch said during a news conference. The baby is safe and being cared for, according to Stephen Sutton, a spokesperson for the Lake and Dyer county sheriffs. "While this was an extremely tragic and violent event... there was a sign of compassion, if you will," Mr Rausch said. "That tells us that there's a possibility that Austin may have a sense that there is hope for him to be able to come in and have a conversation about what happened." Mr Rausch said he believes it was a targeted attack by Drummond, who had a relationship with the victims and their family. A relative of the victims posted on Facebook after the deaths, saying the suspect has "literally been nothing short of amazing to us and our kids", according to our US partner network NBC News. "We all trusted him," the relative added. The unoccupied car that police said Drummond had been driving was found on Friday in Jackson, Tennessee, about 70 miles from where the bodies were found and some 40 miles from where the baby was left in a car seat in a front yard. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has said it obtained warrants for Drummond. He is wanted on four counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated kidnapping, and weapons offences. Authorities offered a $15,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Drummond was convicted of one count of aggravated robbery in August 2014, according to public records. His sentence ended in September 2024, according to Tennessee Department of Correction records. He was charged criminally for activities inside the prison, including attempted murder, after he completed the sentence that put him behind bars, District Attorney Mr Goodman said. Drummond was out on bond on the other charges at the time of the killings, he added.

Bombshell ‘confession' in murder of Brit found dead in well 12 years after vanishing on Crete holiday could crack case

A BRIT man has allegedly confessed to the murder of a fellow tourist who vanished on holiday 20 years ago. The remains of Brit Steven Cook, 20, were found in a well in 2017 in Crete - 12 years after he vanished in 2005. 7 7 On September 1, 2005, Steven, from Cheshire, was out with pals on the first night of his holiday in Malia, Crete - but disappeared without a trace. In February 2017, workers near a Malia cemetery found a human skeleton in an abandoned well. Steven's family has been desperate for answers ever since - but a recent update might shed some light on Steven's death. Nearly 20 years after Steven went missing, Cheshire police confirm there are developments in the investigation. The holiday was Steven's first trip abroad and, despite being with his friends, he left a pub alone at the end of a night out. The Brit was last seen in a bar asking for directions to his hotel, the Hotel Frixos, but walked off in the wrong direction at the end of a night out in the clubbing hotspot. Grieving parents Norman and Pat, both 73, from Sandbach, even put up a 7,000 euro reward for information about their missing son. It seemed that Steven had vanished off the face of the earth until 12 years later workers found a skeleton at the bottom of a well in Malia. Personal items were found with the bones, including a piece of cloth, a belt and a disposable camera. The remains were later confirmed to belong to Brit Steven Cook. Now, seven years after the discovery, cops and prosecutors in Greece are probing an alleged confession alongside UK police. According to Steven's family lawyer, Yiannis Konstantoudakis, an email was sent to Cheshire Police last year from the ex-wife of a 38-year-old British man. She has claimed her ex confessed to killing Steven and revealed the horrifying details to her while under the influence of drugs. She described how he got into a fight with a drunk young man in Malia in 2005. After receiving a hit on the head, the victim died - and his body was thrown down a well. The unknown woman claimed to have kept handwritten diary notes from that time, and even produced a silver bracelet with two beads on the end. She claimed the piece of jewellery belonged to the victim. Steven's grieving family didn't identify the jewellery. After the missing Brit's body was discovered in 2017, it broke the 38-year-old man, his ex-wife claimed. She claims he had a mental breakdown and threatened to take his own life. He also required psychiatric evaluation, the ex-wife claimed. 7 7 7 The prosecutor in Heraklion, Crete, shared reservations about the large gap in time between the time Steven went missing and the 38-year-old Brit's ex-wife's claims - but considered them credible. She added that it was not unusual for people under the influence of drugs or alcohol to make revelations about their lives they wouldn't have otherwise said. The 38-year-old Brit has denied any involvement in Steven's death, according to local newspaper Parapolitika. When appearing before British authorities, he reportedly claimed he wasn't in Crete in 2005. He described his ex-wife's allegations as "lies". In 2005 there were no systematic passport checks for citizens of the European Union while Great Britain belonged to it. There is a recorded entry of the accused Brit into Greece in 2010 from the airport in Zakynthos. Steven's family were informed of the developments through their lawyer. Mr Konstantoudakis told The Sun of fears that the case could be thrown out in September if there are no major developments. Cheshire Police told The Sun it "is aware of the developments in the investigation into the death of Steven Cook". They added: "At this time, we are working closely with the Greek Authorities and Stevens family who are being supported by specialist officers." 7
