Google Photos isn't just a feature-rich gallery app; it's also a powerful editing tool, which explains why it's among the most-used apps on Android devices. But did you know that Google also has another gallery app designed specifically for offline photo management? It's essentially a lighter, offline-friendly version of Google Photos, and surprisingly, many Android users have never heard of it.
We assumed everyone was aware of Google's lesser-known Gallery app. After all, it has received considerable coverage from various tech publications, including us. Back in 2023, my colleague Hadlee Simons even recommended it as a simple, offline solution for viewing photos. Despite all the coverage, it turns out many users, including many Pixel owners, still don't know the app exists.
A Reddit thread, first noticed by DroidLife and currently trending on the Pixel subreddit, highlights just how under-the-radar the Gallery app remains. The app has over a billion downloads, yet the trending Reddit thread is filled with surprised Pixel users thanking a commenter for introducing them to it.

'Oh my gosh, why did I not know about this? And you're telling me I'll automatically see all my photos and videos here? And I can use it like a normal gallery?' wrote the thread's creator, who was searching for a Google Photos alternative.
'Bless you. This has been my biggest gripe with Google Photos. I tried third-party apps, but they were super sketchy, so I gave up,' added another user.
'Thanks for sharing — I didn't know this app existed,' wrote yet another commenter, followed by more such surprise reactions.
So why the lack of awareness? Likely because Google doesn't promote the Gallery app much. Originally launched in 2019 as Gallery Go, the app was intended for low-end devices with limited storage in markets where network connectivity isn't great. Since then, the app hasn't seen much marketing or feature expansion.
While Google hasn't added any major functionality to the Gallery app in years, its most recent update came in January, focused on bug fixes and minor improvements. The app does offer basic AI-powered photo organization, but it's a straightforward tool for viewing locally stored photos and videos. Nothing more.
For those sticking with Google Photos, there's an easy way to access local media and differentiate between what's on your device and what's stored in the cloud. You can just head to the 'Collections' tab and tap on 'On this device' to view images and videos saved locally on your phone.

Ghost of Yotei The spiritual sequel to Ghost of Tsushima had a trailer that showed more vibes than gameplay, pretty much just teeing up a gameplay reveal stream coming in July. Ah well. Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Ignore that word salad title -- this is a heretofore unlooked-for Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works, famed for the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series as well as Dragon Ball FighterZ. While a little more grounded than Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (where are my super jumps?), Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls will have 4v4 tag team battles, promising tight gameplay and fun new costumes for Marvel heroes. It's coming to PS5 and PC in 2026. Lumines Arise A new game in the Lumines universe is coming from the creators of Tetris Effect: Connected, and you can see the impact with synesthetic combination of music and visuals working together. Lumines Arise comes out Fall 2025 for PS5. Pragmata Our second big trailer for Pragmata, Capcom's next single-player adventure, shows even more of the relationship between the astrogear-wearing protagonist and the robot (looking like a small girl) with more capability than she seems. Pragmata comes out in 2026. Romeo is a Dead Man Romeo Is A Dead Man, a new game from Grasshopper Manufacture, was created by noted game developer Suda51 (Killer7). The trailer opened with a bloody protagonist origin transitioning into gameplay of him, newly reborn, slashing and shooting his way through hordes of dead demon-like things. This game -- and whatever panoply of styles and oddball features suitable for Suda51 -- is coming in 2026. Silent Hill f Another trailer for the next Silent Hill game set in 1960s Japan, this game interspersed cutscenes with some gameplay of main character Hinako, a schooolgirl, fighting horrific mannequin-like monsters in schools and shrines across a mist-covered town. The game comes out on September 25, 2025. Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement The next game in the Bloodstained series of Castlevania-likes is another side-scrolling grim action game, which is coming out in 2026. Digimon Story: Time Stranger A new Digimon game from Bandai Namco, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a story-rich RPG with a cel-shaded anime style set in a Japan invaded by monsters. The game comes out October 3, 2025. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles A remaster of the Final Fantasy Tactics classic, the game has two versions: the original game and the enhanced version with fully-voiced dialogue, improved graphics and more. Launching on PS5 and PS4 September 30, 2025. Baby Steps Described by one CNET colleague as "open world QWOP," Baby Steps looks to be a surrealist adventure of a character with one goal: make it to the bathroom. Though its exact processes are hard to tell from the trailer, players can follow their friend or favorite streamer to see how their choices shape the collective story of the game. Tides of Tomorrow comes out next year on February 24, 2026. Sea of Remnants Have you ever wanted to sail the seas as a puppet? Sea of Remnants seems like an even more colorful and zany single-player Sea of Thieves with some interesting color and ocombat mechanics. The trailer showed off dragons and massive floating crab bosses whose shells are coated in gold. Also what looks like mermaid bosses? Sea of Remnants is coming in 2026. Sword of the Sea Yes, Sony debuted a third sea-themed game at State of Play -- or rather, one mixing seas and deserts from game-makers versed in both. Sword of the Sea is a new indie adventure game from Giant Squid, creators of the iconic games Journey, Abzu and The Pathless. And yes, we're getting another soundtrack from Austin Wintory. Inside KPMG's $100 million AI investment: How Google Cloud's partnership is fueling the firm's new AI services
KPMG is expanding its Google Cloud partnership to enhance AI services for clients. The Big Four accounting firm could drive $1 billion growth from its AI initiatives. KPMG is a professional services company and one of the Big Four accounting firms in the US. It offers audit, tax, and advisory services to organizations in multiple sectors, including healthcare, finance, banking, and more. KPMG has more than 90 offices and 36,000 employees in the US. It also operates in more than 140 countries. Steve Chase, vice chair of artificial intelligence and digital innovation at KPMG, said part of the company's business involves helping organizations across industries modernize their operations with technology, including their accounting systems and customer service. Recently, Chase said more clients have sought assistance in incorporating artificial intelligence and cloud services into their digital transformation strategies. To help, KPMG announced an expansion of its partnership with Google Cloud in November to advance GenAI, data analytics, and cybersecurity for its clients. The expansion includes a $100 million investment in KPMG's Google Cloud practice. Chase said the goal is to tailor AI services to specific customers, business models, and industries so that these organizations can use AI to improve their businesses, such as by speeding up data analysis. The expanded Google Cloud partnership will initially focus on clients in the retail, healthcare, and financial services industries. Chase said KPMG has been using AI for several years and has had a long-standing relationship with Google. In 2024, KPMG created the Google Cloud Center of Excellence to combine Google's AI technologies with its own expertise to help clients use AI to boost their businesses. Its latest partnership expansion involves creating new AI tools. KPMG also works with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and other tech companies on other AI-related projects. KPMG has been using Google Cloud's Vertex AI Search, an AI development platform for building and using GenAI, internally to connect and analyze its vast amount of data. Chase said the company is using this information to develop GenAI agents for clients, such as chatbots to answer questions or tools to gather and analyze data, to address various business challenges and expand capabilities. For example, Chase said KPMG is using Vertex AI and Gemini, a Google Cloud AI-powered assistant, to help financial services companies automate tasks that have been cumbersome for humans, including fraud detection and loan applications. Chase added that KPMG also built an AI "store performance analyzer" for a large retailer. The tool allows the company to use automation to speed up and combine information from store locations, such as inventory levels, sales data, and details about the location, to determine how it performs compared to other stores. "It's able to actually do a detailed analysis in a fast way," which used to be completed by a team of people and take longer, Chase said. "Now, the people involved are actually reviewing the results, as opposed to doing all the manual work of pulling all the data together." For healthcare clients, KPMG is using Google Cloud's Healthcare API to develop AI tools that help doctors improve disease detection, treatment, and overall patient care. Chase said that KPMG's partnership with Google Cloud could drive $1 billion incremental growth for the firm. "We've been super pleased with how it's going," he said. While he said the company couldn't disclose specifics on how it'll reach this figure, he said it will be a multi-year initiative that involves adding new clients and expanding the AI services it offers to existing companies. KPMG continues to roll out new AI initiatives. In April, the company announced another expansion of its collaboration with Google Cloud on AI tools for the legal and banking industries. KPMG also announced that it's joining the Google Cloud Security Partner Program to enhance cybersecurity for its clients.
