Air India flight to London cancelled because of ‘operational issues'
Flight AI 159 was planned to depart Ahmedabad, India, at 1:10 pm (0740 GMT) on Tuesday, and arrive at Gatwick airport at 6:25 pm. Air India's website shows the flight was initially delayed by one hour and 50 minutes but has since been cancelled.
No reason has been given by the airline but Indian newspaper the Hindustan Times reported that an airport official said the cancellation was 'due to operational issues'.
An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off on June 12 in what was one of the deadliest plane accidents in terms of the number of British nationals killed.
The aircraft struck a medical college hostel in a residential part of Ahmedabad, killing 241 of the 242 people on board, 52 of whom were British. The sole surviving passenger was Briton Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Investigators are yet to determine the cause of the crash. (PA Media/dpa)

Trump flies back to US after five-day visit to Scotland
DPA Edinburgh US President Donald Trump departed Scotland on Tuesday as his five-day visit came to an end, with Air Force One taking off from from the Lossiemouth air base. The president concluded his trip by opening a new golf course at his resort in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday morning. After playing on the new course, he flew by helicopter to the base. During his visit, he had earlier stayed at his other Scottish resort at Turnberry in South Ayrshire, where he enjoyed several rounds of golf. Despite the mostly private nature of the trip, he hosted British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at both resorts on Monday. EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen also took part in a meeting with him at Turnberry on Sunday. As Trump cut the ribbon on the new course in Aberdeenshire, he said he would play a quick round before returning to Washington to 'put out fires all over the world.' The US president teed off in front of an invited crowd including golfers, football stars, Scottish First Minister John Swinney and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar. Just before hitting the first ball at the new course, the US president told those gathered on a grandstand: 'We started with a beautiful piece of land, but we made it much more beautiful.'

400 passengers stuck in train freed from tunnel in Vienna
DPA Vienna Some 400 rail passengers were rescued from a high-speed train near Vienna after a technical fault, according to a spokesman for the Austrian railways ÖBB who spoke to the APA news agency on Saturday. The passengers heading for Hamburg in Germany when the train came to a halt in a railway tunnel. The passengers were transferred to a replacement train. The train departed at 13:13 (1113 GMT) and the fault occurred at 13:30, the spokesman said. The evacuation was still ongoing in the early evening. Initially, engineers considered towing the train but eventually decided to provide a replacement train. A spokesman for German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said in the evening that a technical fault had occurred with the train. However, he noted that the operators on the section in the neighbouring country were the Austrian Federal Railways. Passengers were stuck for hours, partly in the dark and without air conditioning, reports said. Numerous rescue workers were deployed. There was no information about any injuries initially.

India, Kuwait boost air connectivity with 50% capacity increase
ANI Kuwait City Kuwait and India signed a new air services agreement with an aim to increase weekly air capacity by 50 percent. This partnership will allow the airline operators to raise seats up to 18,000 per week, each direction, up from the previous limit of 12,000. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on air travel was signed by Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al Sabah, President of Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Samir Kumar Sinha, India's Civil Aviation Secretary, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). This is the first time since 2006, when the deal represents the first such expansion of bilateral air rights. In 2006, the capacity was raised from 8,320 seats. The long-awaited agreement comes as part of ongoing efforts to deepen coordination and strategic partnership between the two nations in the civil aviation sector, said Sheikh Hamoud Al Sabah (member of the Kuwaiti royal family). He said, 'It will support and expand the air transport market for both nations, with a focus on meeting the expectations of travellers and aligning with the evolving dynamics of the aviation industry. 'As of now, airlines such as Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Akasa Air operate nearly 40 flights daily on the India-Kuwait route. Specifically, Kuwait Airways leads with 54 weekly flights, followed closely by IndiGo with 36, making them the two dominant players on this corridor. According to a Dubai-based newspaper, IndiGo is seeking an additional 5,000 seats per week, while Air India Express and Akasa Air have requested 3,000 seats each. Air India is reportedly aiming to increase its capacity by 1,500 seats. Flights under the expanded capacity are expected to begin in August 2025, with Indian airlines coordinating with Kuwait International Airport to secure new time long-awaited agreement between Kuwait and India comes as part of ongoing efforts to deepen coordination and strategic partnership between the two nations in the civil aviation sector.
