Yankees Urged To Avoid Potential Trade For Pirates '$106 Million All-Star

FanSided's Rucker Haringey recently urged the New York Yankees to avoid making a trade for star Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds ahead of the trade deadline this year.
"The Yankees are not being connected with trades to outfielders at the moment but Bryan Reynolds is a player who they've coveted in the past," Haringey wrote. "The Pirates are nowhere near playoff contention this season and seem to finally be open to moving the speedy outfielder.
"The problem with Reynolds is that Pittsburgh has waited too long to make him available via trade. He's in the midst of the worst season of his career, as evidenced by his WAR of -0.8. There's no guarantee he'll even be an average player again as he enters his 30s. There might be a time willing to gamble on Reynolds returning to his All-Star ways but the Yankees should not be the team to take that risk."
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JULY 13: Bryan Reynolds #10 of the Pittsburgh Pirates hits a double against the Minnesota Twins in the first inning at Target Field on July 13, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JULY 13: Bryan Reynolds #10 of the Pittsburgh Pirates hits a double against the Minnesota Twins in the first inning at Target Field on July 13, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Trading for Reynolds doesn't make any sense for the Yankees, which is why there have been no rumors, prior to this one, connecting the two sides.
The Yankees don't need an outfielder. They have at least four outfielders on their big league roster who are great options this year. Top outfield prospects Spencer Jones and Everson Pereira could soon join the team in the Bronx, too.
Reynolds is also struggling, which makes him that much less enticing for the Yankees to pursue. To make a trade even worse, Reynolds is attached to a massive contract.
A trade would make no sense for the Yankees. There's no reason to chase an outfielder. It's so far off that it shouldn't even be a talking point this year. The Yankees will likely pursue an infielder and a few pitchers ahead of the deadline instead of an aging, expensive outfielder.

MLB Rumors: New York Yankees Eyeing 3 Diamondbacks Players, Fallback Plan at 3B
The New York Yankees are poised to be buyers this year at the MLB trade deadline, one of several teams hoping the Arizona Diamondbacks decide to be sellers in the next few days. While several prominent Diamondbacks players are on New York's radar, the Yankees may have to pursue a fallback plan for their top target. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Yankees are among the clubs that inquired with the Diamondbacks about a trade for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. However, less than two weeks out from the MLB trade deadline, Arizona is still 'undecided' about moving its All-Star hitter. Related: Eugenio Suarez stats (): .254/.326/.585, .911 OPS, 33 home runs, 18 doubles in 354 ABs Suárez is not the only player on the Diamondbacks roster being eyed by the Yankees front office. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Sunday that New York sent scouts to watch Arizona's starting pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. If the Diamondbacks do not move Suárez, Nightengale notes that the Yankees also 'checked in' with the Pittsburgh Pirates on third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. If Yankees scouts are in attendance for the Diamondbacks' three-game home series this weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals, their top targets are performing. Suárez hit two home runs on Saturday night and Kelly is on the mound Sunday, with Arizona vying for a three-game sweep. Related: Merrill Kelly stats (): 3.34 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 113-33 K-BB ratio in 116 innings pitched However, a turnaround by Arizona could also take Kelly, Suárez, and Gallen all off the trade market. Arizona entered MLB games today just 4.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the National League. If the organization believes the team is turning things around, New York's options for acquiring starting pitching and a third baseman become more limited. While Hayes would provide New York with Gold Glove-caliber defense at third base, he ranks among the weakest hitters at his position. In 91 games this season, Hayes has a .237/.284/.293 triple-slash line, recording nearly as many strikeouts (75) as hits (79) in 334 at-bats. New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers Interested in Trade for Gold Glover
The New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers are all poised to be buyers at the MLB trade deadline, with each World Series contender having similar needs. That has led the three organizations to inquire about a trade for the same infielder. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Tigers, Cubs and Yankees all reached out to the Pittsburgh Pirates to inquire about the availability and acquisition cost for third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. Related: Hayes, age 28, is regarded as one of the top third basemen available at this year's trade deadline. While he does not have the offensive profile that Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suárez brings, the 2023 Gold Glove Award winner is a superior defender at the hot corner. Ke'Bryan Hayes stats (): .237/.284/.294, .578 OPS, 2 home runs, 33 RBI in 337 at-bats Offensively, Hayes has nearly as many strikeouts (75) as hits (78) so far this season. He currently ranks 29th in OPS (.578) among third basemen with at least 250 plate appearances in 2025. The right-handed hitter has struggled at the plate for the past two seasons, recording a .236/.284/.293 triple-slash line across his last 665 at-bats. Related: Ke'Bryan Hayes contract (): $7 million salary in 2025-27, $8 million salary in 2028-29, $12 million club option in 2030 What makes Hayes especially intriguing for the Yankees, Cubs, and Tigers is his defensive prowess at third base. He leads his position with 13 Defensive Runs Saved, well above the next-closest player, and ranks in the 97th percentile for Fielding Run Value. Interested clubs are likely hopeful they can help Hayes return to the caliber of hitter he was from 2022-23, when he posted a .257/.312/.398 triple-slash line. Even with modest offensive production, his elite defense helped make Hayes a 4.0 bWAR player each season. Caitlin Clark not expected to play when Indiana Fever resume season Tuesday at New York
INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark is not expected to be available on Tuesday night when Indiana resumes its season at the defending champion New York Liberty, Fever coach Stephanie White said. Clark missed Indiana's final game before the All-Star break with an injured right groin and pulled out of Friday night's 3-point contest as well as Saturday's All-Star Game. Clark told reporters on Saturday night that she had been getting treatment during the festivities, which also took place in Indianapolis. She was injured in the final minute of Tuesday's victory at Connecticut. While she is improving, White said, the Fever intend to be cautious with Clark, who missed 10 games during the first half of the season with three different muscle injuries. 'She's going to see some doctors and get more tests early in the week,' White said. 'I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to take it one day at a time and let her get evaluations early this week and then, once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear vision of what it looks like.' Clark never missed a game because of injury during her college career at Iowa or last season when she was selected the WNBA's Rookie of the Year. The two-time All-Star is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds this season for a team that was expected to contend for a league championship. But Clark's injuries and other obstacles have kept the Fever hovering near the middle of the standings with a 12-11 mark. 'These soft tissue injuries, sometimes nag until you can actually have time to really allow to heal in the offseason,' White said.
