Berri broaches developments with Jordanian First Deputy Speaker, discusses sports affairs with Youth and Sports Minister, calls for Parliamentary Bureau meeting on April 22
NNA - House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Thursday received First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, Mustafa Khasawneh, at the second presidential headquarters in Ain Al-Tineh.
The meeting was attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Al-Hadid and Speaker Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan.
The discussions reportedly touched on developments in Lebanon and the region in light of Israel's continued aggression against the Gaza Strip, its attacks on Lebanon, and its violation of the ceasefire and UN Resolution 1701. The meeting also addressed bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries' parliaments.
Following the meeting, Al-Khasawneh said: 'We met this morning with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and we exchanged talks on many topics. We conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Abdullah II bin Al Hussein to the Speakert and members of the Lebanese Parliament, and the greetings of the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament and members of the Parliament. We exchanged talks on many issues of interest to the two brotherly countries, and we affirmed that Jordan always stands and will stand with Lebanon.'
Speaker Berri also received in Ain El-Tineh, Lebanon's Minister of Youth and Sports Nora Bayrakdarian, with whom he discussed the general situation and the latest developments, in addition to issues related to youth sectors, federations, and sports facilities.
In a statement released by the Sports Ministry about Minister Bayrakdarian's visit, it noted that she presented her initiative to unify the sports community and establish a consensus Olympic committee, a move that was commended by Speaker Berri. She also outlined the projects the ministry intends to undertake locally, regionally, and internationally, and listened to his directives on various fronts.
Berri also received Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud, with discussions touching on the prevailing situation in the capital Beirut.
On the other hand, Speaker Berri invited the Parliament's Bureau to convene at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
On the occasion of Good Friday and the advent of Easter, Speaker Berri extended his congratulations to the Lebanese, in general, and Christians, in particular, hoping that 'these occasions, with their sublime spiritual, missionary and humanitarian values, will constitute a moment for everyone to firmly believe that truth never dies, that the lights of justice are stronger than the darkness of oppression, and that the promise of resurrection is the victory of life over death, love over hatred, and unity over division.'

Paris calls on Israel to "withdraw from Lebanon as soon as possible"
France condemned on Friday the recent Israeli raids on Beirut's southern suburbs and called on Israel to "withdraw as quickly as possible from all Lebanese territory," according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, as reported by Agence France-Presse. The French Foreign Ministry said: "Paris calls on all parties to respect the ceasefire agreement." It stressed that "France reaffirms that the monitoring mechanism under the ceasefire agreement is in place to help the parties confront threats and prevent any escalation that could harm the security and stability of Lebanon and Israel." The French Foreign Ministry affirmed that "the dismantling of unauthorized military positions on Lebanese territory is primarily the responsibility of the Lebanese Armed Forces, with support from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)."

Geagea says Israeli airstrikes on Dahieh a 'major scandal'
by Naharnet Newsdesk 9 hours Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has said that the latest Israeli airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs were a 'major scandal,' seeing as 'eight months after the signing of the ceasefire agreement in November 2024, Beirut is being bombed again.' 'They are telling us that that happened because Israel is barbarous … We know that, but what have you done to prevent that?' Geagea wondered, stressing that 'the solution comes through the clear regional equation and the clear international equation.' 'We need someone to endorse these equations so that we manage to solve our problems,' the LF leader added, emphasizing that 'it it unacceptable for the Lebanese citizen to remain in danger of being bombed or killed in any given moment, whereas there is a solution.' He added that the solution takes places when Hezbollah and its allies allow the Lebanese state to become an 'actual state,' lamenting that state officials are also being lenient with Hezbollah regarding its weapons. 'Today Lebanon has a chance and I don't know if this chance will still be there two months from now. We have major friends in this world, starting by the Gulf countries, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States. They can help us stop the Israeli attacks and they can help us remove the Israelis from Lebanon, but on the condition that we become an actual state,' Geagea said. He also noted that 'verbal attacks' on Israel cannot resolve Lebanon's problems.

Musk floats ‘The American Party' after Trump tiff
Elon Musk floated a new political party on Friday after falling out with President Trump over the big, beautiful bill. He launched a Thursday poll on the social platform X, which he owns, asking about whether or not the country needed a new faction for political nominees. 'The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate,' Musk wrote, citing numbers from his survey . He followed up with a potential name for the group, ' The America Party .' In recent days, Musk has railed against Trump for suggesting the United States increase its national debt by $4 trillion as proposed in the bill. The tech giant said it 'undermines' all the work he did at the Department of Government Efficiency, geared towards reducing government spending. However, Trump said the Tesla CEO was mad over slashes to electric vehicle incentives instead of other clauses in the legislation. 'Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here. … He had no problem with it,' Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. 'All of a sudden he had a problem, and he only developed the problem when he found out that we're going to have to cut the EV mandate, because that's billions and billions of dollars,' he added. Still, Musk, who served as a White House adviser for over 100 days in the Trump administration, backed a call for Trump to be impeached and replaced by his own vice president. The president has publicly questioned Musk's motives for slamming his leadership right after leaving his role in the administration. 'I don't mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago. This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress. It's a Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn't pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that. I didn't create this mess, I'm just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!' Musk also credited himself for Republicans' successful trifecta in November capturing the White House, in addition to majorities in the House and Senate. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk said in a post on his social platform X . 'Such ingratitude,' he added. Florida Republican Rep. Jimmy Patronis cast doubt on Musk's claim of creating 'The America Party' in Friday comments, suggesting the two will be 'hanging around again' shortly. 'Elon Musk is not gonna create a new political party,' Patronis told NewsNation's Blake Burman during an appearance on 'The Hill.' 'Trump knows that sometimes you're going to have falling out with those that you trust, you like, that you're friends with. It happens with us in DC all the time. So again. Mark my words. About a month from now, these guys will be hanging around again. The Hill
