United Airlines flight attendants are set for pay rises of up to 45%
United Airlines flight attendants are set for big pay increases under the terms of a tentative agreement.
The United branch of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA reached a tentative deal with the airline on May 23. The first details of the deal were published on Tuesday.
It states that cabin crew members would receive pay increases up to 45.6% over the contract's five-year timeframe.
The immediate raise would be as much as 27.8%, meaning a rise in hourly pay for those in their first year from $28.88 to $36.92. By the end of the contract, the starting pay would be $42.06 an hour.
The proposed increases for longer-serving flight attendants would be between 26% to almost 28%.
It means pay for the longest-serving staff would jump from $67.11 an hour to $84.78. By the end of the contract, the hourly rate would be $96.58.
Flight attendants are typically only paid for the time of the flight, but the tentative agreement also includes half-pay during boarding. Delta Air Lines was the first in the US to introduce this back in 2022.
There is also a one-off payment for retroactive pay. The union said it was an "industry-leading" formula worth $595 million, which compensates for the lack of a cost-of-living raise for United flight attendants since 2020.
Contract negotiations have dragged on while competitors have ratified their own agreements.
On May 13, about a dozen flight attendants gatecrashed a press event unveiling United's new Polaris business class to highlight the lack of a deal.
American Airlines flight attendants ratified a deal last September that gave them an immediate pay increase of up to 20.5%. Five months earlier, Southwest Airlines flight attendants won a 22.3% pay increase.
Delta flight attendants, who aren't unionized, have received annual pay increases. The latest put the starting wage at $36.92 — the same as United's tentative contract.
The United AFA is set to hold a road show, both virtually and at airports nationwide, before voting opens on July 7.
Voting closes on July 29. If the contract is approved by union members, it will take effect the following day.

United Airlines' and JetBlue's 'Blue Sky' partnership brings loyal flyers reciprocal benefits
Loyal United Airlines and JetBlue flyers have a lot to look forward to with the two carriers' recently announced "Blue Sky" partnership. The new alliance will give United MileagePlus and JetBlue TrueBlue members reciprocal perks when flying — they'll be able to earn and redeem miles on either airline, enjoy status benefits onboard both and buy flights from either carrier's website. United Airlines, whose major Northeast hub is at Newark Liberty International Airport, will also have space at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) as early as 2027. While not all of the specifics have been announced yet, here's what we know so far. On May 29, United Airlines and JetBlue announced Blue Sky, a new initiative aimed at providing their frequent flyers with more travel — and credit card rewards earning/redemption — options. The collaboration brings reciprocal benefits to United MileagePlus and JetBlue TrueBlue members, the airlines' loyalty programs, with changes rumored to go into effect as early as this fall. JetBlue has a significant East Coast presence, which means teaming up with United gives its flyers more access across the U.S. Some of United's main hubs include Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Denver International Airport and Houston Intercontinental Airport. United also has a much larger international network that JetBlue flyers can tap into. For United flyers, the alliance with JetBlue opens up their options when flying along the East Coast or to the Caribbean. They can also now add JFK as an alternative for in and out of New York. With the Blue Sky partnership, JetBlue's TrueBlue members will be able to earn and use points for flights across United's global network, including domestic and international flights. United's MileagePlus customers will be provided the same opportunity for "most" JetBlue flights, with further details hopefully coming in the future. The ability to earn and redeem points across airlines is a big perk, especially for travelers who take advantage of transfer partners where available. JetBlue points can be earned by a handful of credit card issuers, with American Express Membership® Rewards, Capital One Miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards® and Citi ThankYou® Rewards all transferring at different ratios. United is a little trickier and only has Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards Points as transfer partners. This partnership will now likely grant additional ways to indirectly access United's network through transferring points to JetBlue and redeeming via United flights. This could be possible with cards like the American Express® Gold Card or the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, two popular travel cards that you may already have in your wallet. We still need to wait for some more details around pricing and how the exact redemption works, but having more flexibility with your credit card points is always welcome. As part of Blue Sky, United and JetBlue will offer flights on one another's websites and mobile apps so you can book on either seamlessly. Both carriers will continue to publish and market flights independently, not a codeshare, however. United will also shift how it provides hotels, rental cars, cruises and vacation booking via its website and mobile apps, moving to services provided by JetBlue's Paisly platform. Impressive Air Travel Demand at Copa Holdings: Sign of More Upside?
Copa Holdings CPA, based in Panama City, Panama, is gaining from upbeat passenger volumes. Driven by the buoyant air-travel demand scenario, revenue passenger miles (RPMs: a measure of traffic) increased 10.1% year over year in the first quarter of 2025. Load factor (percentage of seats filled by passengers) increased 0.4 percentage points to 86.4% in the March quarter, with traffic growth outpacing the 9.5% capacity expansion in the three-month period. RPMs increased 23.6%, 2.3% and 5.2% year over year in January, February and March, respectively, the three months of the first quarter of 2025. Despite economic uncertainties, RPMs increased an impressive 5.5% in April, on a year-over-year basis. The impressive air-travel demand scenario is primarily responsible for Copa Holdings' shares gaining a handsome 19% over the past six months, outperforming the Zacks Transportation - Airline industry and its U.S. counterparts, United Airlines UAL and American Airlines AAL. The double-digit increase in the share price of CPA against the double-digit declines of United Airlines and American Airlines seems to suggest that it has navigated the recent tariff-induced volatility well. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Despite uncertainties, traffic growth has remained intact at Copa Holdings. With passenger volumes likely to remain strong, we anticipate passenger revenues to increase 4% in 2025 on a year-over-year basis. Copa Holdings seems to have performed better with respect to air travel demand than its U.S. counterparts due to factors like regional economic expansion, better adaptation to market trends and focus on innovative strategies. The impressive air travel demand scenario is also behind Copa Holdings' estimates for 2025 and 2026, moving north. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Image Source: Zacks Investment Research As regional economies recover from the COVID-induced slump and middle-class populations expand in Latin America, demand for air travel is likely to remain healthy, which bodes well for CPA. Copa's strong brand presence and efficient operations position it well to capitalize on this potential growth. From a valuation perspective, Copa Holdings is still trading cheaper than the industry. Going by its price/earnings ratio, the company is trading at a forward earnings multiple of 6.21X, much lower than the industry average of 11.14X. The company has a Value Score of A, like its U.S. counterparts, American Airlines and United Airlines. Manchester United are leading the race for Aston Villa's World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez
While Manchester United are focusing on improving the team's attack first and foremost, fans will argue that improving the goalkeeping options is equally important. Andre Onana was shambolic last season, committing huge errors in both the Premier League and Europa League, and he has never truly convinced since his move to Old Trafford. Advertisement INEOS have offered the Cameroonian to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, with Neom SC a possible option, but so far, no concrete talks have taken place. The Red Devils are keeping their options open, with Emiliano Martinez emerging as a potential option with the Argentine looking to leave Villa Park in the summer. Emiliano Martinez on United's radar As reported by TyC Sports, the World Cup winner has been approached by Barcelona, but the 20-time English league champions are in pole position and have shown the most concrete interest. The report further revealed that INEOS had spoken with the 32-year-old's camp before the January window as well, back when Ruben Amorim was trying to get rid of Onana. Advertisement In the end, the United No.1 ended up staying at Old Trafford while Emiliano Martinez also stayed with the Birmingham side. 'The end of the season in the European leagues left a striking image: Emiliano Martínez said his farewell in tears during Aston Villa's final match at Villa Park, and his future remains unknown. 'Dibu, with a very high contract as the star player, could bid farewell in this transfer window, especially after it emerged that the club is looking for another goalkeeper. The Argentine still has no offers on the table, but Manchester United is reportedly interested. Strongest interest from United 'His departure won't be easy, especially given the high price they're asking for a key goalkeeper. While no official offer was made public, Barcelona has sounded him out, but the strongest interest is believed to come from the Premier League giant. Advertisement 'Six months ago, the Red Devils contacted the Argentina national team goalkeeper and discussed his possible signing for weeks, but ultimately opted for André Onana.' The former Arsenal shot-stopper is valued at £40 million by Villa, a fee United will struggle to cough up given the need to improve in so many other areas. Maybe if they can secure Onana's exit, a move could be made possible. All eyes on Onana and INEOS. One thing is for sure, Amorim needs a better goalkeeper than his current No.1.
