Eggs Are The New PS5s As Mystery Thief Steals 100,000 In Overnight Heist
The fowl play took place on February 1 around 8:40 p.m. at a distribution trailer for Pete & Gerry's Organics in Antrim Township, according to the State Police. No further leads as to who stoles the eggs or why have been shared so far. Law enforcement estimated the value of the 100,000 eggs at $40,000, which if you've ever gazed longingly at Pete & Gerry's free range extra large brown eggs on the shelf at the grocery store sounds like low-balling it.
'We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible,' Pete & Gerry's told USA Today in a statement.
The unusual heist recalls the PlayStation 5 snatchings that occasionally happened back in 2020, when the launch console was super-rare and hard to find. The internet lit up with tales of roving UK gangs raiding trucks full of PS5s and drivers absconding with undelivered consoles.
Now, with prices spiking because of the bird flu outbreak, eggs are the luxury items on everyone's mind. Sure, they're still super-cheap compared to gaming consoles, but the roughly 20 percent spike in prices in recent months hits doubly hard. The pain isn't only felt in our wallets but in our stomachs as well.
Luxury purchases feel different than a few unexpected extra bucks on carefully scrutinized grocery bills. I used to eat a dozen eggs at week at least. Eggs on toast. Eggs on noodles. Hard boiled. Soft boiled. Omelets. I was a fiend for these golden delights. No longer. I'm not quite ready to pawn my PS5 for a month's supply of eggs, but I no longer instantly perish the thought.
I doubt this mystery thief is a Robin Hood, preparing to doll out free eggs in the woods of Western PA. But I do wonder what you actually do with 100,000 stolen eggs. Make a giant cake? Sell them on eBay? I will be watching the development of this story with great interest, and many pangs of hunger.

Woman arrested, charged with reckless driving following high-speed pursuit in Concord, NH
A Merrimack woman was arrested following a high-speed pursuit in Concord, New Hampshire, late Friday night. Heather Lewis, 34, was taken into custody after crashing her SUV into a State Police cruiser. The incident began at 11:37 p.m. on August 15, 2025, when a Trooper from the Troop D barracks observed a black 2012 Toyota RAV4 traveling at 93 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 93 northbound with no lights on. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Lewis drove through a steel metal gate blocking off a class VI road and continued through a field on private property. The pursuit concluded when Lewis crashed the Toyota into a State Police cruiser. Lewis faces multiple charges, including: reckless conduct resisting arrest criminal mischief reckless operation disobeying a police officer speeding over 25 mph above the limit operating without lights. Possible sighting of David Jordan reported in Sibley; ‘avoid the area,' State Police says
SIBLEY, Ill. (WCIA) — The search for David Jordan, the man accused of shooting two Ford County law enforcement officers over the weekend, continues Wednesday afternoon as another possible sighting was reported to State Police. State Police confirmed with WCIA at 4:22 p.m. that they are actively looking for Jordan and searching the area of IL-47 near Ford County 1100 N Road in Sibley. Multiple other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search. UPDATE: Sibley investigation was for report of person walking in fields; no one found yet State Police added that there is 'no immediate threat to the public,' but they ask that everyone avoids the area at this time to give law enforcement space while they continue to work. Jordan has been on the run since the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 9. Around 2:30 a.m. that day, Gibson City Police officers and Ford County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Ash Street and Sangamon Avenue for reports of a naked 70-year-old man, who was later identified as Jordan. When officers attempted to make contact with Jordan at his residence, he allegedly opened fire on them, injuring a police officer and a deputy. Shortly after the shooting, the house caught fire. On Tuesday night, there was a heavy police presence in Sibley while State Police investigated a report of a person walking through the fields. After several hours of searching, no one was found. The search in that area resumed Wednesday afternoon and is ongoing. A WCIA reporter on the scene said officers have been searching the area for around four hours now. Some officers are flying drones to get an overhead view, while others are watching for movement from the ground. This is a developing story. We will share updates as we learn more. 69-year-old N.J. woman charged with distributing child sexual abuse materials, authorities say
A Somerset County woman is being charged with distributing child sexual abuse material, authorities say. Kathleen Amberg, 69, of Branchburg, was arrested at her residence on Aug. 13 and taken to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Electronic devices were seized from her residence for further forensic analysis, authorities said. The prosecutor's office led an investigation to find a suspect possessing and distributing files depicting sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor after they received a tip, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. The tip was provided by the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in a Cyber Tipline Report. Amberg was held at the Somerset County Jail until making an appearance in superior court, after which she was released from custody.
