Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash involving a bus in south Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Emergency crews responded to a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a school bus late Thursday afternoon in south Wichita.
Around 4:50 p.m., officers with the Wichita Police Department were dispatched to an injury accident involving a school bus and a motorcycle near MacArthur Road and Alfalfa Street.
It was determined that the school bus had approached the intersection on Alfalfa, getting ready to make a left turn onto MacArthur. As the bus was turning, the motorcycle, which was heading eastbound on MacArthur, collided with the bus.
'At this time, it's still being determined who's at fault in the accident,' WPD Lieutenant Brian Goward said.
The motorcyclist, a 70-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. Police said 'it doesn't appear' that he was wearing a helmet.

The bus was carrying 18 students from Enterprise Elementary. No students were injured. The driver of the bus was also uninjured.
'Multiple parents are here on scene, so we'll be working to get their kids to them as soon as possible,' Goward said. 'Due to the protocols of the accident, they had to stay here. The children had to stay here. We will release them to their parents here.'
The crash is still under investigation.
'If there are more witnesses that witnessed the incident that didn't maybe stop or hear and had left prior to being contacted by police, we urge them to call so that we can get their statement and what they observed,' Goward said.
Westbound MacArthur will be blocked off for a couple of hours as WPD's Critical Accident Team investigates. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

UDALL, Kan. (KSNW) — You could smell it before you saw it — the charred remains of the city park restrooms, torched and melted from the inside out. Udall Police Chief Erik King is calling it arson and says it's unlike anything he's dealt with in town before. The damage is estimated at around $10,000. Police say it happened Thursday around 4:30 in the afternoon. Then, just hours later, it happened again. 'The same person returned and, at about 8:40 at night, lit the boy's bathroom on fire, and that caused significant damage,' King said. 'It was on fire for 20 minutes before the alarm company notified us.' He says the timing couldn't be worse, with the Fourth of July just around the corner. Neighbors say the smoke drew their attention before they knew what was happening. 'I was doing yardwork and I had the boys, and a lady from out of town came up to the fence and asked if I had seen a person walking around,' said Skylar Kistler, who lives next to the park. That's when she noticed the smoke coming from the bathroom. 'It kind of made us, I guess, feel protective, like a little more protective, like kind of upset that anybody would do that,' she said. Her husband Tylor says the damage is personal. 'I've lived here my whole life, so it's kind of nice to have a park like this with a splashpad, and you know everything here for the boys right in our backyard, and it's just kind of bad. This is a good building, and it's terrible,' he said. Chief King says the person believed to be responsible has been arrested and is currently being held in juvenile detention. Loose tire injures two highway cyclists near Atwood
RAWLINS COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A loose trailer tire slammed into two cyclists Friday afternoon along U.S. Highway 36, leaving both with serious injuries. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Friday as a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling on U.S. 36, towing a trailer. The trailer lost a front tire, which broke free and struck two 75-year-old cyclists riding on the shoulder. KDOT changes weekend closure plans for I-135 in Wichita Both cyclists, from Marion, were taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries. Father disarmed son after deadly shooting
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Newly released court documents are shedding light on the case of a Wichita man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, 20-year-old Naomi Oglesby. Matthew Criscenzo, 19, was arrested at the scene on May 25 after officers found Oglesby shot in the head inside a home on South Laura Street. According to an affidavit made public this week, Criscenzo made multiple unsolicited statements to officers while in custody, saying he 'shot her,' 'didn't want her to go,' and 'didn't think [his] finger was on the trigger.' Here's how to report damage Oglesby, who was 37 weeks pregnant, was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead minutes after her baby girl was delivered via emergency C-section. He told police he found Naomi on the ground and Matthew holding a gun. He took the weapon away and placed it on the front porch before emergency responders arrived. Criscenzo appeared in court on May 29, where he was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery. He remains held in the Sedgwick County Jail on $500,000 bond.
