The programme organised by the Malaysian Nationhood Academy in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry distributed free chickens at two different locations, namely 500 at Batu 1 while the rest were at Dataran Kampung Pachitan.
Checks at the Batu 1 here showed that people started coming to the PJRM around 8 am and were seen increasing by midday today to get essential goods at lower prices than the market.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also distributed free chickens to lucky visitors at Batu 1, besides being enlivened by the presence of Madani government MPs and cabinet ministers to greet the people.
Visitor, Nurul Nabila Salleh, 36, said she was really looking forward to the programme because the prices were very cheap compared to the market price.
"The goods are sold very cheap compared to other supermarkets, if possible, it can be held every week or at least every end of the month so that the people can buy at a cheaper price," she said.
Former headmaster, A. Damutaran, 68 who agreed with the view said the purchase not only saves money, but also allows buyers to get complete kitchen needs in one place.
"There are onions, eggs, chicken, sardines, coconut milk, all sold at cheaper prices than other places, so we don't have to go anywhere else, we just buy in one place," he said.

EPF Monthly Payout Plan Applicable Only To New Members, Deputy Finance Minister Says
The proposed monthly pension-style payout under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will apply only to new members once implemented, said Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying. She clarified that existing EPF members' withdrawal rights will remain unchanged, and any transition to the new structure would be strictly voluntary. Under the initial proposal, EPF contributions would be divided into two components: Flexible savings, which members can access anytime, and income savings, to be paid out monthly until depleted, providing a more stable post-retirement income stream. 'This is only an early proposal. The Madani government is committed to gathering public feedback and conducting comprehensive engagement before any implementation. 'Nevertheless, the goal is clear, which is to help Malaysians manage their retirement savings in a more structured, fair and sustainable way,' Lim said in a Facebook post. Currently, EPF members can withdraw their full balance at age 55. However, the government is exploring a monthly payout option to supplement lump-sum withdrawals, as outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan tabled on July 31. EPF is currently reviewing the proposal and has pledged to conduct stakeholder consultations to ensure members' long-term interests are safeguarded. Related

KKR to modernise Malaysia's infrastructure under 13MP for urban and rural areas
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Ministry (KKR) will integrate cutting-edge technology into strategic infrastructure projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13), focusing on road networks, highways, bridges, and public facilities. In a statement today, KKR emphasised that MP13 is not just about physical development but also aims to uplift living standards for all Malaysians, ensuring equitable progress across urban and rural regions. 'KKR is committed to realising the MADANI government's vision for the people. We will enhance service delivery to ensure high-quality, sustainable, and safe infrastructure,' the ministry stated. As the national construction sector leader, KKR will expand the use of modern methods like Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the Industrialised Building System (IBS) to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce foreign labour dependency. Digitalisation efforts will also be prioritised through initiatives such as MyJalan, the Highway Network Development Plan, and the Road Accident Management System to optimise planning and maintenance. The ministry highlighted that these measures aim to deliver cost-efficient infrastructure by minimising project delays, which could otherwise increase national spending and defer public benefits. MP13, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, includes key projects like the Rantau Panjang–Sungai Golok bridge upgrade (Malaysia-Thailand link) and the Kalabakan–Simanggaris road (Malaysia-Indonesia connection). Other major developments include the Central Spine Road (Bentong to Kuala Krai), the Pan Borneo Highway completion in Sabah and Sarawak, and the Sarawak–Sabah Link Road. The Prime Minister also announced upgrades for major highways and 2,800 km of rural roads by 2030. 'MP13 is not just about infrastructure—it's about rebuilding hope and public trust in Malaysia's future,' KKR affirmed. - Bernama

Govt tackles cost of living with Rahmah Sales and wage hikes
PUTRAJAYA: The government is adopting a two-pronged approach to tackle the rising cost of living, namely by expanding the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM) and raising the minimum income floor to boost disposable income. Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the PJRM initiative allows the public to purchase essential goods at more affordable prices through discounts, ultimately helping them save more. 'We face challenges in controlling global market prices. For instance, when we import goods like onions, which we rely on 100 per cent from external sources, prices are dictated by the international market. Although we can't control global prices, the government intervenes by implementing initiatives such as Rahmah Sales to offer discounts. 'This means, when people have limited disposable income, programmes like Rahmah Sales help make essential goods more accessible. Without such intervention, how can the people make the most of their remaining income?' she said in an exclusive interview with Bernama recently. She emphasised that the government's two-pronged approach, which focuses on enhancing disposable income and regulating the prices of essential goods, is a crucial step toward alleviating financial pressures on the people. 'The government is helping by increasing the income floor, which means improving people's income and ensuring that their disposable income rises. At the same time, we are controlling the prices of essential goods,' she said. 'Therefore, if anyone suggests that only one approach is sufficient, that's inaccurate. The government has to, and is implementing both simultaneously,' she said. Fuziah said, for example, the government has taken various steps to increase the people's income floor, including raising the minimum wage, adjusting the salaries of civil servants and setting the minimum wage rate, efforts aimed at ensuring people have more spending power. She also highlighted the government's commitment to expanding PJRM, noting that the allocation has been doubled from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, the programme can be held more frequently and expanded to cover all 600 state constituencies (DUN) nationwide.. 'With RM300 million, Rahmah Sales could be held twice a month in each state constituency. With the increased allocation, the programme can now be held four times a month, or once every week, in each DUN. 'For example, if a parliamentary constituency has three DUNs, Rahmah Sales can rotate locations weekly. If someone misses the sale this week, they can visit another nearby DUN the following week. We ensure that these sales are always available and easily accessible. It has become one of the most popular initiatives among the public,' she said. Meanwhile, regarding the proposal to expand the list of Basic Rahmah Contribution Assistance (SARA) items, Fuziah explained that the initiative is under the Ministry of Finance (MOF), while the KPDN always conveys the feedback received from the people to the relevant parties. 'MOF is listening and will continue to add to the SKU (stock keeping unit) list. I saw it myself when I went to the supermarket where even women's essentials have various brands included, and so are instant noodles,' she said. She said that improving the list of SARA items is a continuous process that is carried out based on the needs and feedback of consumers. 'The government is always listening to the people's needs, and improvements will be made accordingly,' she added. Fuziah also reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent business development ecosystem, free from cartel interference. She said this is being pursued through various mechanisms under the ministry's supervision, including the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC), oversight of profiteering activities, and supply chain management. 'We monitor all aspects of the market. We have price inspectors, enforcement teams, and several legislative instruments in place to ensure fairness and transparency,' she said. The ministry, she said, also conducts routine price monitoring through the Price Catcher application and regular inspections by enforcement officers. 'These efforts ensure that business development in the country is well-regulated and equitable for all parties,' she said. - Bernama
