Monticello, Indiana man gets 25 years for child porn
U.S. District Judge Gretchen Lund sentenced a Monticello man Tuesday to 25 years in prison for uploading nude images in October 2024 of a female child he was babysitting anonymously to an encrypted online chat group. Timothy Pressey, 40, pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Hammond in April to production of child pornography. After prison, he will also serve 20 years on supervised release. A later hearing will finalize how much money he would owe the victim. In court filings, Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Heater said Pressey narrated his sexual abuse of the victim. His actions guaranteed 'her abuse would be memorialized in the darkest corners of the internet for years to come.' Defense lawyer Peter L. Boyles wrote his client took responsibility and cooperated with police. Documents show the group was an exchange place for hundreds of users, including 'hurtcore' child porn that showed 'pain, torture and humiliation.' Pressey appeared to detail how he abused the child. 'So welcome the world of a 6 yo,' Pressey said in one post. When the FBI got a search warrant and raided his home on Nov. 2, they found 7,500 pictures and video files on his seized iPhone. Most were latent thumbnails 'likely due to Defendant's presence in one or more group chats where (child porn) was freely exchanged,' according to court filings. 'Timothy Pressey committed a heinous crime against a child entrusted to his care and supervision and then shared the product of that crime on the internet,' Acting U.S. Attorney M. Scott Proctor said in a release. 'Thanks to the outstanding work of the FBI, our state and local partners, and this Office's dedicated team of prosecutors and staff, Pressey was swiftly brought to justice. The U.S. Attorney's Office will continue to do everything within our power to prosecute those who victimize children.'

Third man charged in teen's ‘17 drug robbery death
As Anthony Triplett was set to get out of prison for killing a 14-year-old boy, charges were unsealed July 21 for a different criminal case for Diego Serna's Nov. 2, 2017 death in Gary's Miller section. Triplett, 27, of Gary, is the third man charged in Serna's killing. The case has been delayed for years. He has pleaded not guilty. His next hearing is Sept. 11. Against his better instincts, a 20-year-old man went to a Gary apartment complex on Nov. 2, 2017, to sell 1.5 ounces of marijuana to Augustus 'Gus' Johnson, his then-Hammond Walmart co-worker, charges allege. It was a setup. The man ended up seriously wounded and his friend, Serna, 16, of Hammond, was killed. Gary Police responded to the Marquette Apartments, 405 South Huntington St. They found Serna, who appeared lifeless, on his stomach. The marijuana dealer survived. Johnson, now 48, is awaiting sentencing after signing a plea deal in 2021. At various points, prosecutors filed to squash the deal, then go forward with it. He told police that he, another Walmart co-worker, Triplett, talked about robbing the dealer months earlier. That evening, they picked up co-defendant Marcell Ellison in East Chicago. At the Gary apartments, as the marijuana dealer approached Johnson's car, Triplett came up behind him and fired four shots, charges state. Ellison also fired shots toward the man. Johnson told police he was the getaway driver. Ellison's trial is set in November. The case was further complicated after the original detective got indicted in a federal child porn case. It has since been reassigned to a different investigator. Former Gary Police Det. James Bond, 52, of Crown Point, a former deputy chief, commander and homicide supervisor, was indicted in September 2024 after soliciting an explicit video from a 17-year-old boy working as a city intern in the police department last summer. Investigators found a latent cached screenshot on his iPhone. Triplett was sentenced in December 2021 for killing 14-year-old Arion Lilly, who was shot in the back after leaving a barber shop, lawyers said. Triplett said he was fleeing another car shooting at him and didn't mean to hit the boy.

DeWine calls on Casino Control Commission to remove prop bets amid MLB investigation
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is calling on the Ohio Casino Control Commission to eliminate prop bets from the state's legal betting options following a sports betting investigation involving two Cleveland Guardians pitchers. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'The evidence that prop betting is harming athletics in Ohio is reaching critical mass,' said Governor DeWine. 'The harm to athletes and the integrity of the game is clear, and the benefits are not worth the harm.' TRENDING STORIES: 1 remains missing after building collapse in St. Marys Dayton Public will not provide bus transportation for high school students in upcoming school year Former Ohio State football player facing charges for crash that killed 24-year-old man DeWine also plans to seek support from the commissioners and players unions of the six major sports leagues in the United States to ban prop betting. He highlighted the issue of micro prop bets, which focus on specific events controlled by a single player, as particularly problematic. The NCAA's influence led to the removal of collegiate prop bets in Ohio earlier this year, following a letter from NCAA President Charlie Baker. The Ohio Casino Control Commission enacted rules in February 2024 that prohibited prop bets on individual player achievements in collegiate sports, though professional sports prop bets remain unaffected. MLB's investigation into the Cleveland Guardians pitchers involves allegations of unusual prop betting activity in New York, New Jersey, and Ohio during games in June. Luis Ortiz and All-Star Emmanuel Clase have been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through August 31st as part of this investigation. DeWine's efforts to curb prop betting aim to protect the integrity of sports and the welfare of athletes in Ohio. The outcome of MLB's investigation and the response from major sports leagues could significantly impact the future of prop betting regulations in the state.
