Minor found intoxicated in hotel room

Time of India22-05-2025

Patna: A 15-year-old girl, who was missing since May 20, was found in an inebriated state in a hotel room in Patna district on Thursday. The girl alleged that she was forced to consume alcohol before the alleged gang rape, the police said.
Upon receiving the information on Dial 112, the police reached the spot and called the girl's parents after verifying her identity. The station house officer (SHO) said a lady inspector was also sent to the spot. "We received the information at 4pm. When the team reached there, she told her name and gave her mother's contact number. Due to the victim's intoxicated state, she was immediately sent to the Danapur sub-divisional hospital for medical examination," the SHO said.
The family has not filed a formal complaint yet, though they have identified one suspect. "The girl left with a youth about two days prior and did not return home since. The investigation is ongoing, but due to being inebriated, the girl is also not able to tell anything. Once she is sober, her statement will be recorded. The police are checking the CCTV footage of the nearby areas," the SHO said.
Family members report the victim indicating she suffered abuse whilst staying at the hotel. Police are investigating the boy she left with and his associates as potential suspects. Authorities are also examining the hotel premises where the victim was found.

Day after killing 18-yr-old brother, man arrested

Lucknow: A day after he murdered his 18-year-old younger brother during a heated altercation at their home in Jankipuram, a 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday. The accused, Amit Mishra alias Bala, reportedly told investigators he lost his temper after his brother, Ravi Mishra alias Arjun Mishra, spoke to him in abusive language. The murder took place at 7:30am on Monday inside their residence in Sector-6 of Jankipuram Extension. According to police, Amit allegedly slammed Ravi multiple times on the floor and then strangled him to death with a dupatta (scarf). Police were alerted on Dial 112 and on reaching the scene, found Ravi's body in a pool of blood. A forensic team was called in to gather evidence and the body was sent for postmortem following completion of legal formalities. Inspector Vinod Kumar Tiwari of Jankipuram police station said both brothers were drunkl at the time of fight. "The altercation escalated when Ravi hurled expletives at Amit. In a fit of rage, Amit killed him," he said. Amit was taken into custody on Tuesday, and a case of murder was registered against him. Besides Amit, Ravi is survived by his parents Ram Lakhan and Nirmala Mishra, brother Rahul (30) and sister Neha Tiwari (25). Neha told police that Amit worked at a private readymade garment store in Madiaon, while Rahul is employed at a jewellery shop in Dandaiya Bazaar and lives separately. Neighbours and relatives described Ravi as a troubled youth with a history of substance abuse. He was often involved in arguments and had a reputation for aggressive behaviour within family and the neighbourhood. A loud altercation reportedly took place on Sunday night too, hours before the murder. Police said further investigation was underway to establish sequence of events and determine if there were other underlying factors behind the murder.

Salesman slapped by excise inspector for charging 10 extra for a beer bottle

Noida: A liquor salesman in Greater Noida was allegedly slapped and pelted with a belt by an excise inspector for overcharging customers. The district excise officer has initiated a departmental inquiry. Manish Kumar (29) of Dadri, who works as a salesperson at a model shop in Jagat Farm, claimed he sustained severe injuries on his limbs and chest after he was brutally assaulted by excise inspector Chandra Shekhar. His family staged a protest outside the DM's office on Saturday after cops refused to register a complaint. The victim claimed Shekhar and a constable came to the model shop around 8.30 pm on Friday and accused him of overcharging customers. "When I told the officer that I did not overcharge, the inspector slapped me multiple times. He removed the CCTV camera's DVR and then put me into his vehicle and took me to the excise office in Greater Noida's Sector Delta 3. Once in the office, he assaulted me with a belt and left me there in a severely bruised state," Manish claimed. The salesman claimed he was left in the excise office for hours before his brother, Rohit, who also works at the model shop, got to know about the assault later that night and came to pick him up around midnight. The family subsequently tried to submit a formal complaint on the emergency helpline, Dial 112, and then at several police posts, but in vain. On Saturday, they gathered outside DM's office in Greater Noida. The district excise officer, Subodh Kumar, told TOI their team had received a complaint against the salesman for charging customers Rs 10 more than MRP for beer bottles on Friday. "Excise inspector Chandra Shekhar and a constable were sent to the shop for an inspection. In his initial statement, the inspector said that when he reached the shop, the salesperson was drunk and misbehaved with them. The two officials took the salesperson to their car to impose a challan, but the latter fled from the spot," the DEO said, adding that it was possible that Manish may have hurt himself later. "A departmental inquiry has been initiated. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry," the DEO said.
