Under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) of Qatar, INJAZ Qatar hosted a national awards ceremony for the Annual Young Enterprise of the Year Competition (Mubadara).
The 18th edition of the Mubadara Awards was held at the Qatar National Convention Center on Sunday, bringing together students, mentors, government authorities, and partners to celebrate the most promising youth startups in Qatar.
The ceremony marked the culmination of a six-month programme during which students conceptualized and brought to life their business ideas with guidance from industry professionals. This year, 12 university teams and 11 high school teams participated in the competition.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Emad Alkhaja, CEO of INJAZ Qatar, said: 'Today is the awards ceremony and the completion of our program called The Company Program. It's a five to six-month journey that guides high school and university students to establish their own businesses. They go through the full life cycle of running a company. Mubadara 2025 is the final event—our awards ceremony—held in collaboration with major corporate names like ExxonMobil, Boeing, and QDB. Together, we work to find the Best Student Company of the Year from both high school and university tracks.'
'I believe Mubadara—and the Company Program in general—is more than just an entrepreneurship initiative. It teaches students many important skills, especially at this stage in their lives. It's a character-building experience where they learn about marketing, ideation, teamwork, communication, and financial reporting—all within just five months,' Alkhaja added.
'Of course, we aim to empower and encourage them to launch real businesses, but even just taking part in the program is a huge benefit. For university-level students, since they are of legal age, we also connect them with incubators in Qatar. Today, for example, we have partners like QUBIC and Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), who support students even after the programme ends.'
Sheikha Hanadi Nasser Al Thani, Chair of INJAZ Qatar and INJAZ Al-Arab, also emphasised the significance of the initiative, stating: 'This year's Mubadara program is a testament to the passion, creativity, and resilience of our youth. The ideas we've seen go beyond business—they reflect a vision for a more innovative, inclusive, and sustainable future for Qatar and the region.'
ExxonMobil Qatar, a platinum sponsor since the programme's inception in 2008, presented the Best Company of the Year award to the winning team. 'Our collaboration with INJAZ Qatar through Mubadara reflects our commitment to developing young talent and fostering innovation,' said Rashid Al Hajri, Vice President and Manager of Public and Government Affairs for ExxonMobil Qatar. 'We are proud of every student who participated in this year's competition and look forward to their future impact.'
Another highlight was Boeing's continued strategic partnership, which began in 2013. Wael Zaoud, Boeing's Managing Director in Qatar, awarded the Best Company prize for university students to the Tamayaz team from Qatar University, who created an online platform offering affordable, high-quality recorded lessons.
Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, and Central Asia, remarked: 'Empowering the local workforce with essential skills that foster innovation and growth is at the core of Qatar National Vision 2030. Through our partnership with INJAZ Qatar, we have helped thousands of young individuals turn their innovative ideas into reality.'
Award winners:
• Best Company of the Year – Sponsored by ExxonMobil Qatar, awarded to Tamayaz from Qatar University, and My Eye from Ibn Taymeya Secondary School for Boys.

QIB, INJAZ Qatar reach over 27,000 students with Life Skills Program

Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), Qatar's leading digital bank, in collaboration with INJAZ Qatar, a leading non-profit organization focused on youth economic empowerment, has successfully concluded the 2024/25 cycle of the nationwide Life Skills Program, impacting over 27,000 students across 71 schools. Over the course of the year, more than 180 teachers were trained and deployed to deliver the programmes in classrooms. The sessions were integrated into the academic calendar, allowing students to benefit from structured, interactive content across 12 teaching hours. This three-year programme, developed under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education was designed to equip Grade 7 and Grade 9 students with the skills they need to succeed in both their academic and professional lives. The life skills for preparatory students project is comprised of two distinct programs tailored to each grade level. The 'It's My Business' programme for Grade 7 students has introduced design thinking as a problem-solving approach and offered a hands-on entrepreneurial experience, guiding students through identifying market needs, proposing solutions, and exploring how to launch a business idea. Meanwhile, the 'It's My Future' programme for Grade 9 students focused on career readiness, helping them build a personal brand, explore job opportunities, write resumes, and develop the skills and behaviours needed to succeed in the job market. Commenting on the success of the first year's program, Mashaal Abdulaziz Al Derham, assistant general manager, head of corporate communications and quality assurance at QIB, said: 'We are pleased to see the strong results of our collaboration with INJAZ Qatar. This programme represents our long-term commitment to supporting the youth of Qatar through practical, forward-thinking education. 'By focusing on life and financial skills at the preparatory level, we are contributing to the development of confident, capable individuals who are ready to shape their own futures. This initiative aligns with QIB's social responsibility framework and supports the broader goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.' INJAZ Qatar CEO Emad Al Khaja said, 'We are happy to continue our successful collaboration with QIB. Together, we are building an ecosystem of learning that extends beyond the classroom and prepares young students to make informed life and career choices. This collaboration remains a strong model for impactful educational outreach in the region.' The QIB-INJAZ Qatar collaboration highlights a shared commitment to empowering youth in Qatar by bridging the gap between education and real-world skills. With a growing impact year over year, the Life Skills Program continues to support the development of future-ready generations who can actively contribute to the country's economic and social progress.

Cathay Pacific unveils deal to buy 14 Boeing jets

Agencies Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific said Wednesday it would place an US$8.1-billion order for 14 Boeing jets, its first with the US aircraft maker for more than a decade. In a filing to the city's stock exchange, the airline said it would 'purchase 14 Boeing 777-9 aircraft' and had 'secured the right to acquire up to seven additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft'. Cathay already has a fleet of more than 230 mostly passenger aircraft. The new order expects the aircraft to be delivered by 2034, according to a separate filing. Cathay was one of the first buyers to commit to Boeing's 777X program when it unveiled the purchase of 21 aircraft in said in a statement the new deal brought the order book of 777-9 aircraft—'the world's largest twin-engine airplane'—to 35. The jets, designed to reduce fuel use and emissions, would meet Cathay's growing global travel demand, Boeing added. Hong Kong's aviation sector was hit hard by COVID-era policies, which imposed strict rules on travelers that kept it internationally isolated before they were lifted in late 2022. In 2024 Cathay's attributable profit rose slightly to US$1.27 billion and it announced earlier this year that its flights were finally back to pre-pandemic levels. On Wednesday, the firm reported its attributable profit rose slightly to HK$3.65 billion in the first six months of 2025, benefiting from a pick-up in travel demand in Asia. Total revenue in that period increased 9.5 percent to US$6.92 billion. The company also declared an interim dividend of HK$20 cents per share. Chairman Patrick Healy heralded a 'solid financial performance' in the filing. 'Our first-half result was driven by higher passenger volumes albeit with lower yields, a consistent cargo performance, and lower fuel price compared with the same period in 2024,' Healy said. The company's passenger airlines, including Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Express, have launched or announced 19 new destinations so far in 2025, with 'more to come', he said, adding that they now fly to more than 100 passenger destinations.

Over 3,000 Boeing defense workers go on strike amid contract dispute

Agencies More than 3,200 workers of Boeing, who assemble its fighter jets in the St. Louis area and Illinois, went on strike on Monday after rejecting a second contract offer the previous day, dealing a fresh blow to the aviation giant after last year's strike. Boeing Defense said it was prepared for the work stoppage and would implement a contingency plan that utilizes non-labor personnel. According to the company, the rejected four-year contract would have increased the average wage by roughly 40% and included a 20% general wage increase, as well as a $5,000 ratification bonus. It also included increasing periodic raises, as well as more vacation time and sick leave. 'We're disappointed our employees in St. Louis rejected an offer that featured 40% average wage growth,' Dan Gillian, Boeing vice president and general manager of the St. Louis facilities, said in a statement. The offer was largely the same as the first one, which was overwhelmingly rejected just one week earlier. Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers' (IAM) District 837 'deserve a contract that reflects their skill, dedication, and the critical role they play in our nation's defense,' District 837 head Tom Boelling said in a statement. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg downplayed the impact of a strike when talking with analysts on Tuesday about second quarter earnings, noting that the company had weathered a seven-week strike last year by District 751 members, who build commercial jets in the Northwest and number 33,000. 'I wouldn't worry too much about the implications of the strike. We'll manage our way through that,' he said. District 837 workers assemble Boeing's F-15 and F/A-18 fighters, the T-7 trainer, and the MQ-25, an aerial refueling drone being developed for the U.S. Navy. Boeing's defense division is expanding its manufacturing facilities in the St. Louis area to support the new U.S. Air Force fighter jet, the F-47A, following its contract win this year. District 751's strike ended with approval of a four-year contract that included a 38% wage increase.
