Ter was returning home from the U.S. Figure Skating National Development Camp in Wichita, Kansas.
Officials said she was one of only four elite youth skaters from the region who attended the training camp. The camp serves as a launchpad for athletes vying for a spot on Team USA in the world championships.
Ter trained at the Tucker Road Ice Rink in Prince George's County and was a beloved member of the figure skating community. Those who knew her said she excelled in figure skating programs and inspired others through her talent.
'The impact of Olivia's life will continue to resonate in our youth sports community, and she will be sorely missed,' said Bill Tyler, Director of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County.

Nets' Day'Ron Sharpe, Terance Mann react to John Wall's NBA retirement
The Brooklyn Nets have been trying to improve the roster for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season as the franchise continues what it hopes will be a short rebuild process. Between now and when training camp begins in September, Brooklyn's last bit of business is re-signing guard Cam Thomas. However, there is another guard that some players on the team are paying attention to. John Wall, formerly of the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers, announced his retirement on Tuesday in a video that he posted to his account on X. Wall retired from the NBA after spending 11 seasons in the league, most of that time spent with the Wizards as he established himself as one of the marquee point guards during the 2010s. Nets forward Terance Mann, who spent one season as Wall's teammate during the 2022-23 season when both were with the Clippers, posted on his X account that Tuesday was an "emotional" day for him. After the 2016-17 season when he made his fourth of his five All-Star appearances, Wall did not play more than 41 games in a season as he dealt with various injuries during that time. Brooklyn center Day'Ron Sharpe who, like Wall, hails from North Carolina, gave a shoutout to Wall on his Instagram Story calling Wall an "NC Legend" for the work that he did since leaving North Carolina to pursue his professional basketball aspirations. Wall was a one-and-done at the University of Kentucky before entering the 2010 NBA Draft, where the Wizards took him with the first overall pick. Wall, 34, did not win a championship in the NBA, but he has plenty of accomplishments from his time in the league. Wall was part of the 2011 All-Rookie First-Team, five-time All-Star, won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2014, Second-Team All-Defense in 2015, and was Third-Team All-NBA in 2017. As Mann and Sharpe showed, Wall will always be remembered fondly for what he did was one of the better players during his prime. Barcelona look smooth in Como demolition as Ter Stegen buries hatchet
Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona completed their pre-season preparations by thrashing Italian side Como 5-0 on Sunday in a game which signalled a thawing of relations with goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Barca also gave Marcus Rashford a substitute's appearance two weeks after the England forward joined on loan from Manchester United. Double strikes from Fermín Lopez and Lamine Yamal and a first-half goal from Brazilian Raphinha completed the rout in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium within the team's training complex, while Barcelona wait for the heavily delayed modernisation of the Camp Nou to be completed, Hansi Flick's team showed fluency as they prepare to begin their Liga title defence away to Mallorca on Saturday. Before kickoff on Sunday, Ter Stegen gave the traditional captain's speech from the pitch, just days after his dispute with the club over the handling of his back injury broke to the surface. "I think it was important to resolve the issue between the club and me, and now it's time to look forward," said the 33-year-old German goalkeeper, two days after having the captaincy restored. "We're going to fight again for all the trophies and we hope that with your help we can win all the titles possible," Ter Stegen told the fans. Rashford suffered mixed fortunes, providing the cross for Raphinha to score but also blowing the chance to tap into an empty net. bur-dam/cl/gj/bb

Official: Barcelona reinstate Ter Stegen as captain after medical report issue resolved
The past 48 hours have been quite the rollercoaster as far as Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Barcelona's relationship is concerned. The German was recently stripped of his captaincy after he refused to sign a document that would have authorised Barcelona to share his medical report with La Liga. However, shortly after Ter Stegen was removed from captaincy, the goalkeeper came up with a statement confirming that he is willing to work with Barcelona to settle things. Ter Stegen reinstated as captain As a result of ter Stegen's co-operation, Ter Stegen has now been reinstated as Barcelona's captain, the club confirmed in a statement. The Catalans also confirmed that Ter Stegen has finally signed the documents, thus allowing the club to receive his medical report and submit it to La Liga. Ter Stegen has returned as Barcelona captain but for how long? (Photo by) 'The Club announces that the player Marc-Andre ter Stegen has signed the authorisation necessary for the Club to send La Liga the medical report relating to his surgery,' the statement read. 'The disciplinary case has been closed and the player is captain of the first team once again with immediate effect,' the statement added. This is a crucial reconciliation step between Ter Stegen and Barcelona, one that could go a long way in helping the Catalans utilise the goalkeeper's salary to register new signings such as Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford. Ter Stegen's future at Barcelona, though, still remain bleak as the goalkeeper has fallen behind Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order.
