Selmer, TN church aids recovering tornado victims

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A church in Selmer, Tennessee is making efforts to help victims recover and clean up nearly a week after a deadly EF-3 tornado hit the area.
Faith Baptist Church is one of the centers providing relief to storm victims. It has everything from clothes and food to diapers and baby formula.
People can pick up items or reach out to the church to have them delivered at 1301 Peach Street in Selmer, Tennessee.

'Homes were completely destroyed. But when I come up, Adams extended, the whole neighborhood was gone,' said Pastor Mark Shoemaker, Faith Baptist Church. 'And, I called my son. I said, this is devastation. So, there's nothing left. There's nothing here.'
Devastation and destruction can still be seen throughout McNairy County. Faith Baptist Church has served as a resource for survivors.
Thursday's tornado claimed the lives of at least five people, destroying homes and displacing dozens of families.

'So, we've had a lot of people come by to get diapers, wipes, and as you can see here, we've got a lot of different stuff on hand,' said Pastor Shoemaker. 'And so, but we also provide a lot of hygiene, personal hygiene, men's, women's kids.'
Pastor Shoemaker and the church's staff also delivered meals to families and helped with storm cleanup.
When people return to their homes or move into rental properties, the pastor says household items and other resources will be available at the church.
