Queen praises ‘beautiful' poppy display at Tower of London
Camilla visited the historic fortress on Tuesday to launch The Tower Remembers, marking VE Day and the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
The new installation features 30,000 ceramic poppies from the 2014 Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red artwork, now redesigned to flow from the White Tower.

Camilla admired the ceramic flowers and joked: 'I see why people would take them. I think they're so lovely. Quite tempting.'

Project lead Tom O'Leary guided the Queen through the artwork, saying afterwards: 'She was very interested in it. She really liked the way that all the different heights comingulate.'
Poet laureate Simon Armitage then read In Retrospect, a poem commissioned to mark VE Day.

The Queen told him warmly: 'Lovely. Lovely poem. Thank you very much,' before asking how long it had taken to write.
She met members of the Historic Royal Palaces and Tower teams who helped create the display, as well as D-Day veterans Henry Rice and Richard Aldred, who handed her a poppy to plant.
Camilla was also joined by Yeoman Warder Tracey Machin and her five-year-old son Harrison, who planted a poppy alongside the Queen.

Harrison said: 'I did a poppy with the Queen. This is my poppy,' pointing to the ceramic flower he had planted.

Asked why the moment was important, he replied: 'Because it's really, really special.'
He said he enjoyed living at the Tower of London, explaining: 'You get to see all the nice stuff,' and that it had been a 'really good' day.

After helping with the ceremony, he was given a dragon teddy called Puffy.
'We chatted about all the poppies being here and it was really, really nice for them to be here,' he said.
Ms Machin said: 'I could not be prouder of Harrison. He did such an excellent job.

'When you're five anything could happen so I'm really proud that he stayed very still. Her Majesty the Queen was absolutely wonderful. You can tell she has grandchildren herself.
'She was dressed absolutely beautifully in red and black, co-ordinating perfectly with our poppies. I think she was very impressed with the display as well.'

The Queen was wearing gloves decorated with poppies, and told one attendee she had been given them in France last year.

Mr Rice, 99, said of the visit: 'Memorable, that's the best word, because last year I went to France and had the pride and pleasure of meeting His Majesty and Her Majesty. I said to her quietly, 'We met last year', she said, 'Yes, I know', and that is fabulous. I mean, why should she remember me?'
He added: 'Each one of those poppies there represents a man that gave his life to allow me, my family, this country in fact, to live in peace and comfort.
'I really do thank them and they are my heroes, all of them.'

Outside the Tower, crowds clapped and cheered as the Queen greeted them.
She shook hands with schoolchildren, joking about them missing lessons, before she departed.
One member of the public called out: 'God save the King, we all love Camilla, give us a wave.'

Veterans return to Scotland for ‘magical' visit to Edinburgh Tattoo
Three veterans who served in the Second World War have attended the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo during a trip to Scotland for a 'return to places of deep personal meaning' organised by a charity. Eugeniusz Niedzielski, 101, Don Turrell, 100, and Dorothea Barron, 100, attend the pageantry event at Edinburgh Castle during their trip to Scotland, organised by the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans. They described the Tattoo as 'the icing on the cake' after seeing the show on Tuesday evening. The visit was organised after Mr Turrell, who lives in Frinton-on-Sea in Essex, disclosed it was his 'final wish' to return to Scotland, where he had served in the Cameronians, and he vowed to come back next year. Polish veteran Mr Niedzielski was 'delighted' to watch the Band of the Polish Border Guard, according to organisers. He served with the 1st Armoured Polish Division, and during the visit spent time with the Polish Community in Edinburgh, and also attended a Catholic Mass and a memorial service to his fallen comrades. Ms Barron, who served in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS), returned to the site of her former barracks at Port Edgar, now a housing development and had a tour of Campbeltown, while Mr Turrell visited the Cameronians Museum and the Ben Nevis Distillery. He said the visit was 'unforgettable', and also described the Tattoo as 'magical'. Mr Turrell said: 'It was breathtaking – from the stirring opening to the grand finale. When the pipers emerged through the smoke, I thought the procession would never end – it was magical. 'It's been absolutely wonderful – and I'm coming back next year.' Colin Mills, chairman of the Taxi Charity, said: 'Since 1948, the Taxi Charity has supported thousands of veterans, arranging free trips to the Netherlands and France for acts of commemoration, as well as days out to museums, concerts, and social events across the UK. 'This trip to Scotland was inspired when Don quietly shared with me that his last wish was to return there. We were determined to make it happen – and in doing so, we've not only fulfilled Don's dream, but also the heartfelt wishes of Dorothea and Eugeniusz.' Dick Goodwin, vice president of the Taxi Charity, said 'This trip has given the veterans the chance to return to places of deep personal meaning from their wartime service – and they've enjoyed every moment.' He said the Tattoo was 'a celebration of skill, pageantry, and shared history'. Mr Goodwin said: 'It was a fantastic performance, from the hundreds of pipers, The Band of the Polish Border Guard, that delighted World War Two veteran Eugeniusz Niedzielski, to the precision and daring of the USAF Honor Guard Drill Team, spinning and throwing rifles with bayonets attached. 'The whole evening was a celebration of skill, pageantry, and shared history. 'This trip has given the veterans the chance to return to places of deep personal meaning from their wartime service – and they've enjoyed every moment.'

New book reveals shocking age Prince Andrew lost his virginity
Prince Andrew lost his virginity aged 11, according to a startling claim made in a new biography. The Duke of York, now 65, is the subject of a bombshell book 'Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York,' which has aired a litany of damning allegations about the ousted royal in the wake of controversy over his relationship with dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The book, which was written by renowned royal biographer Andrew Lownie, attempts to uncover when Andrew became 'obsessed with women', pinpointing it back to his premature sexual experiences. According to a chapter titled 'Randy Andy,' the prince had his first sexual experience aged just 8 before losing his virginity at 11. A source said, 'He admitted that his second sexual experience came before he turned 12 and when he was 13 he had already slept with more than half-a-dozen girls.' 4 The Duke of York is the subject of a bombshell new book, which explains how he allegedly became 'obsessed with women.' Lownie is said to have interviewed more than 100 people to build the explosive book, which took him four years to write. It comes after another damning excerpt was leaked this week pertaining to Andrew's links to Epstein, who died aged 66 in a Brooklyn jail in 2019. It included allegations Prince Andrew met Epstein years earlier than he claimed, that they had 'shared women', and that Epstein once said the duke was 'perverted animal in the bedroom' and 'the only person I have met who is more obsessed with p–y than me.' In 2019, Andrew told the BBC during his infamous Newsnight interview he first met Epstein in 1999, but Lownie alleges that Andrew's former private secretary Alastair Watson confirmed the duo were introduced in 'the early 1990s'. 4 The royal has not yet responded to allegations made in the book. 'One time I drove him and two young girls aged around age 18 to a hotel. Both girls were doing lines of cocaine. Prince Andrew was making out with one of them.' Prince Andrew is yet to respond to claims made in the book, which also delves into his unusual relationship with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
