Promising review: "This is an awesome clock for anyone who loves Dali and surrealist art. It is a great value for the money, considering it is super cool and seems to be good quality. The whole clock is encased in a distorted plastic bubble, which is very cool. The metallic part is also plastic, which is fine. It ticks a bit loudly, but I personally like that. I'm just glad such a cool clock is also fully functional." — Zach

2. A"Gracula" garlic crusher — just because the Count has a garlic aversion doesn't mean he can't help you mince a little for your homemade pasta sauce. And it'll only take a few seconds!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising review: "I love this little guy. I found him on a BuzzFeed list and had to have it as soon as I saw it! I've minced as many as five cloves in it in seconds. It's a little tricky getting all of the garlic out once minced (I use a silicone basting brush to get most of it but I always use more than the recipe calls for anyway so it's not a deal breaker). Cleanup is a breeze because he goes right in the dishwasher!" — Barbie

It's got a really nice set of brightness options and the glow is yellowish, which is much nicer than white in a dim/dark room. One thing that isn't mentioned in the description is that its legs are utterly floppy. It's terrific." — Literated

I tried the viral Elroel foundation stick — it takes a minute to blend, but it turns from clown white into my skin tone
Every so often, a beauty product goes viral for all the right reasons — and recently, the Elroel Blanc Cover Cream Stick, an innovative color-changing foundation from Korea, has been making the rounds on TikTok and Instagram. Almost magically, its stark-white pigment blends away to match the wearer's skin tone virtually perfectly. While it may seem that the white, almost chalk-like consistency would be too thick or caky for everyday wear, the result seems to be ultra-glowy skin with beautiful, non-patchy coverage and a scarily accurate color match. In other words: the internet's glam-loving girls are going positively feral. Here, I set out to see if the unique foundation stick is worth the hype (or if it's instead a gimmick that's simply too good to be true). It costs $27 on Amazon and comes in six adaptable shades Olivia Rose Rushing/Business Insider The buzzy foundation stick comes in six adaptable shades, from their lightest "200 Fair" to the darkest "205 Deep." As is true with many Korean cosmetic brands, the shade range doesn't encompass as many hues as American ones (think Fenty Beauty's industry-shifting fifty foundation hues). Because of this, I'm unsure if this will work for those with the deepest complexions. I ordered shade "201 Fair." When I first opened the box, I loved how simple and sleek the packaging was. What's more, the ultra-soft built-in brush actually felt like something I would use — especially when traveling with makeup. Upon my first application, the product felt a lot creamier on my skin than expected. I immediately disliked its powdery floral scent — which thankfully doesn't come from any added perfume — it's more likely due to the jasmine and evening primrose oils. Still, the heavy fragrance is my least favorite aspect of the formula. Before and after blending out the color-changing foundation Just like the viral TikTok videos, I couldn't believe how intensely stark white the color was swatched against my complexion (and I'm quite fair to begin with). That being said, it started to blend away relatively effortlessly, slowly but surely revealing an impressive color match that's hard to find in a foundation. While I initially thought that the built-in brush would be a major win, I did find that it took much longer than I prefer to spend blending my base makeup. Because of that, I probably wouldn't use it again, unless I was traveling or in a pinch as it did a good enough job. It matched my skin tone beautifully, but I just can't get past the scent It goes without saying that the color match is almost exact, and with a surprising amount of coverage that doesn't require you to layer more swipes of foundation. And as many have noted online, the final result is a soft-matte finish with a pretty glow that appears healthy and nourished thanks to efficacious ingredients like niacinamide. In that regard: I totally understand the hype. I also loved how this foundation worked well with my current product lineup, like my go-to cream-to-powder blush that's coloring my cheeks. Though honestly, despite its light finish, it was weighed down by the lingering powdery jasmine aroma. The bottom line The Elroel foundation stick does exactly what it promises: it swipes on white, blends into skin for a wow-worthy color match, and leaves you looking youthfully dewy. It never made my skin look too textured or caky, and overall, the formula is lightweight and wears well throughout the day. That said, my main gripes are the limited shade range — especially for those with darker skin tones — and the scent, which is a personal preference but important to note. Because of that, it hasn't replaced my current foundation, though it might just end up being someone else's new holy grail.

‘Drive My Car' Star Nishijima Hidetoshi Leads Prime Video Japanese Mystery ‘Human Specimens'
'Human Specimens,' Amazon MGM Studios' latest Japanese original for Prime Video brings together acclaimed actor Nishijima Hidetoshi with 20-year-old Kabuki theater prodigy Ichikawa Somegorô in a psychological thriller that delves into the darkest corners of human obsession. Based on a novel by Minato Kanae – whose previous work 'Confessions' earned international recognition and an Academy Award submission for Japan – the five-part series follows a butterfly researcher who confesses to turning six young boys, including his own son, into 'human specimens.' More from Variety Daniel Dae Kim's 'Butterfly' Is All Action With Little Heart: TV Review How to Watch Outside Lands 2025 Live Online 'Squid Game' Star Lee Jung-jae and 'The Glory's' Lim Ji-yeon to Lead Prime Video Korean Rom-Com 'Nice to Not Meet You' Nishijima, whose international profile soared following his lead role in the Oscar-winning 'Drive My Car' (2021), takes on the role of Professor Sakaki. Making his first foray into contemporary television drama, Ichikawa has already established himself as a rising talent in traditional Kabuki theater, an art form recognized by UNESCO. Veteran director Hiroki Ryûichi, known for 'April Bride' (2009) and 'The Waxing and Waning of the Moon' (2022), helms the series. This marks his second collaboration with Minato following their critically acclaimed 'Motherhood' (2022). The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, revealing layers of truth behind Professor Sakaki's disturbing actions while examining complex father-son dynamics and humanity's obsession with preserving beauty. 'We are excited to present to our Prime customers worldwide a new series that will leave a lasting impression,' said Thomas Dubois, head of French and Japanese originals at Prime Video. 'This dark and compelling drama series earnestly confronts the eternal questions that Minato Kanae explores with her sharp pen – the purpose of life and the nature of love.' Nishijima added: 'The original novel by Minato Kanae is layered with powerful themes – the infinite depths of parent-child love and conflict, the complexity of human nature, the fine line between art and madness, and the desperate pursuit of beauty. I was captivated by how the story kept surprising me with unexpected turns right up to the end.' Ichikawa said: 'Sometimes, humans find a strange beauty in their endless desires and inner darkness. Perhaps this is because these very desires are what make us human. Minato Kanae portrays this human essence through descriptions that are sometimes hard to face yet utterly gripping – impossible to stop once you start reading.' Minato added: 'As a mystery writer and parent, I challenged myself to tackle 'filicide' – perhaps the most difficult theme for me to imagine,' she said. 'It was particularly challenging to express colors and specimen designs through words alone. That's precisely why I strongly hoped for a visual adaptation, and my wish has been granted in the most wonderful way possible.' Hiroki said: 'This series explores humanity's obsession with beauty through the lens of a complex father-son relationship. The series aims to carefully yet boldly portray a world where love and madness intersect, expressed through butterflies and art.' 'Human Specimens' will be available worldwide exclusively on Prime Video beginning Dec. 18, with all five episodes releasing simultaneously. Behcet (Ben) Kaya, Revered Author, Releases 'Deception,' His Latest Jack Ludefance Thriller: 'Hired by a Dead Man'
Now available, Deception takes readers on a thrilling race against time, where uncovering the truth comes at a high cost. LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2025 / / -- Internationally recognized author Behcet (Ben) Kaya has released his latest crime thriller, Deception: A Jack Ludefance Novel. The newest installment in his acclaimed PI series launches with a chilling premise: a dying Colonel hires Jack Ludefance to uncover who poisoned him, sending the detective into a race against time filled with danger, deception, and intrigue. Deception: A Jack Ludefance Novel and the entire Jack Ludefance series are available on and other online booksellers. Click here: 'I refuse to ignore my past,' says Kaya. 'My books are a blend of what has happened and what is happening today. We can never outgrow the past; it is the root of who we are. That's why I take relevant stories and shape them into fiction that not only entertains but also helps reveal deeper truths.' Packed with twists, suspicious characters, and a race against time, Deception showcases Kaya's signature storytelling, fast-paced, suspenseful, and layered with themes of truth, morality, and justice. Readers will find themselves immersed in a narrative that feels both thrillingly fictional and eerily reflective of real-world issues. Kaya first introduced readers to PI Jack Ludefance in 2017, inspired by a dinner with his wife at a Florida bayside restaurant. The series has since grown to six novels, with a seventh, Murder at Tutley Brewery, already in progress. Readers Rave 'Deception by Behcet Kaya is another fantastic book by this author and features the character of Jack Ludefance. Having read the books in this series, I know how great the writing is. Book 6 has Jack investigating a chilling case: Colonel Westerdam believes he's been poisoned and hires Jack to determine the truth. The suspects include shady doctors, a sketchy woman, and things from the Colonel's past. Kaya builds layers of suspense, atmosphere, and character. I loved trying to figure out the puzzle of this case. The vivid, highly conversational style moves the story along at a quick pace. I was totally immersed in this book and loved the plot, characters and ultimate ending. Recommended.' Beyond his fiction, Kaya's own story is as compelling as his novels. Born in northeastern Turkey, he left home at the age of fourteen, worked on construction sites in Istanbul while studying English, and later moved to London in 1965. Balancing education with long hours as a restaurant worker, he steadily built a life defined by resilience and determination. In 1976, Kaya emigrated to the United States, became a citizen in 1985, and later earned top security clearance to work on nuclear power plant projects. Alongside his professional career, his artistic pursuits flourished, as he studied theater in Atlanta and Los Angeles before embarking on a literary career that began with the award-winning Voice of Conscience in 2007. He has since published nine novels, including Road to Siran, Erin's Story, and Murder on the Naval Base, which was adapted into a screenplay and recently recognized by the Oxford Script Awards (Summer 2025). Today, Kaya lives in Florida's Panhandle with his wife, where he enjoys the beaches, long cruises, and playing a rare violin crafted by a Turkish luthier. His life story is a testament to persistence, creativity, and the enduring power of imagination, qualities reflected in every book he writes. About Behcet (Ben) Kaya Behcet (Ben) Kaya is the internationally recognized author of nine novels and a graduate of CSU Channel Islands with a BA in Political Science.
