MyGov Malaysia app for easy access to govt agencies

The Star5 hours ago

PUTRAJAYA: MyGov Malaysia, a single digital gateway app for government services, will be launched next month, says Gobind Singh Deo (pic).
The Digital Minister said the app is part of the nation's government technology (GovTech) initiative, providing Malaysians easy access to various government agencies.
'This is part of the government's plan to transform Malaysia into a digital nation. It is only right to ensure we have a single platform where Malaysians can deal with various government agencies seamlessly,' said Gobind in a statement.
The MyGov Malaysia mobile application will focus on seven main services – travel (passport-related matters); registration (birth and citizenship); driving (road tax and driving licence); healthcare (appointments and medical records); summonses; housing (land tax/assessment rates); and Rahmah Cash Aid, with more features to be added in the near future.
Gobind said MyGov Malaysia would be integrated with MyDigital ID to streamline access to government services via a single, secure platform.
'Users will be able to verify their identity and access multiple services directly through the mobile application using their MyDigital ID credentials.
'This unified approach not only simplifies user interaction with government platforms but also underpins the broader commitment to digital inclusivity, trust and service excellence by the Digital Ministry,' he said.
As of June 23, a total of 2,604,160 MyDigital ID registrations have been recorded. The integration of the single sign-on will be for 34 main government system applications.
'The MyGov Malaysia app will allow Malaysians direct access to multiple services at the palm of their hands. This is part of our journey in transforming Malaysia into a digital nation, a journey that will benefit Malaysians and to ensure no one is left behind in a trusted digital environment,' Gobind added.

‘Cash still legal!': Customer slams KL café over no-cash policy—Internet divided

A café in Kuala Lumpur has unintentionally stirred up an online debate after receiving a 1-star Google review from a dissatisfied customer who was upset that the establishment only accepts cashless payments. In a post on Threads, the café shared a screenshot of the review, where the customer expressed frustration over the policy: 'Never again. This business is a cashless business. Cash is still a legal tender in Malaysia and you must accept it.' ALSO READ: The customer added, 'I do not support cashless business. Oh, and I just noticed you charged me the wrong bill. P.S. your coffee is ok.' The café, clearly puzzled by the harsh critique, responded with a caption reflecting its confusion: 'It's sad to see a customer leave a 1-star review not because the food wasn't good, overcooked, or due to bad service —but just because of our cashless policy. 'Yes, we're fully cashless for safety reasons and to reduce errors. 'Just wondering, how do you all feel about a cashless system like this? Let us know your thoughts,' it wrote. While many businesses have adopted digital payment systems to streamline operations and reduce human error, not all customers are on board. Online users were divided over the issue. Some supported the café's move, saying Malaysians need to keep pace with evolving technology. Others sympathised with the reviewer, arguing that the café should accommodate those less comfortable with digital payments. 'I've once had a situation where my phone had no line at all... and the shop only accepted e-wallet. I said that my phone was out of line and I could offer to pay cash.. they said they don't accept. Didn't end up buying. So they lose a sale,' one user called denflx commented. 'Did you clearly display a big sign at the entrance saying 'NO CASH ACCEPTED'? And when the customer was about to order, did you remind them again that you don't accept cash? If the customer was properly informed and still left that kind of review, then it wouldn't be fair,' amad_ecam wrote.

Call for judge's recusal amid misconduct allegations

KUALA LUMPUR: A Federal Court judge at the centre of serious misconduct allegations must recuse himself from hearing any appeals or applications until a police investigation is completed, a group representing civil society and legal figures said today (June 25). The Sekretariat Pertahan Sistem Kehakiman said the judge should step aside in light of claims that cast doubt on his impartiality and risk undermining public confidence in the judiciary. "The judge must, with humility, withdraw from all proceedings while investigations are ongoing. These allegations are enough to taint the oath of loyalty taken by any member of the Bench," the group said in a statement today. The group issued the statement following the circulation of a police report which alleged that the judge had tried to influence the Chief Justice to rule in favour of a particular party. It was further claimed that he requested the transfer of a High Court judge who had presided over a case and disagreed with his views. "This matter is extremely serious. "Even though the allegations remain unproven, they strike at the very heart of judicial integrity." The judge has also been named in a leave application to initiate committal proceedings and reported to the authorities over possible offences under Sections 204 and 209 of the Penal Code. The allegations are linked to the case commonly referred to as the Najib Razak Addendum Decree. The group said the police must be allowed to investigate freely and without interference from any party. "The integrity and dignity of the judiciary have become a matter of public discussion. The police must be given full space to carry out their duties," it said. It stressed that the judiciary must act in defence of the rule of law, and must be seen to do so. It urged the Judicial Appointments Commission to exclude the judge's name from any recommendations for appointment to higher judicial office, including Chief Judge of Malaya, President of the Court of Appeal, and Chief Justice, until the police report is fully dealt with. The group reminded the media of its role in asking the right questions and ensuring the public is kept informed of ongoing developments. It also expressed regret over any attempts to pressure the media, if such efforts are in fact taking place. "All Malaysians, regardless of background, have a responsibility to monitor the appointment process of key public positions to ensure they are not compromised by an overly powerful executive," it added. The secretariat said it would continue to update the public through the media on any further actions it would take.

Muda hails Syed Saddiq's acquittal as victory for justice

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has applauded the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit its co-founder and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of all charges, calling it a clear affirmation of truth and justice. In a statement, Muda conveyed deep gratitude and relief over the ruling, describing it not just as a personal win for Syed Saddiq, but as a powerful symbol of integrity and perseverance in the face of political pressure and public criticism. "For over five years, Saddiq has endured relentless personal attacks, politically charged accusations and prosecution questioned by many. "Yet, he chose the harder path, refusing backdoor deals and standing firm on principle," the party said. Muda said Syed Saddiq placed complete trust in the nation's judicial process by choosing to fight the case transparently in court, and the verdict stands as a testament to his unwavering courage, strong principles, and integrity. The party added that the ruling signals the beginning of a new phase in Malaysian politics, one driven by clean, progressive, and principled leadership that truly reflects the voice of the people. "This episode has exposed the realities of the current system, but it has also brought together youths, activists, professionals, and everyday Malaysians in their shared hope for a better future, one led with integrity and moral courage," it added. Muda called on all Malaysians to be ready for a new political chapter. One that breaks free from the grip of old politics which, has long poisoned the system and betrayed public trust. "Truth has prevailed. The journey ahead is long, but today, we have won. And this is only the beginning," Muda said.
