BEIJING, July 31, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A report from chinadaily.com.cn:
Sound can sometimes inspire a greater emotional reaction in people than visual stimuli, especially in movies and games. As the creator of the original soundtracks of many hit games and movies, including the groundbreaking BlackMyth: Wukong, 8082 Audio in Beijing granted exclusive access to China Daily online show Cultural Frontline, sharing creative stories of sound and music.
From the sound effects of the Monkey King armor, to the game's sweeping and emotive Celestial Symphony, their magic extends much further than the synthesizer. Apart from the games, the studio's artists also revealed the creative processes behind movie theme songs and even the sound effects used by modern electric vehicles.
As the studio's musical director, Zhai Jinyan told China Daily that a key source of their creative inspiration was Chinese culture, as many pieces of music and sound effects they design originate from the country's musical landscape and its traditional instruments.
"Our culture is our true root and soul, passed down through generations. Therefore, once we rediscover it, and draw nourishment from it, such nourishment can never be replaced by mere imagination." Zhai added.

Sony Shares Jump After Raising Outlook on Games and Music Demand

(Bloomberg) -- Sony Group Corp. shares surged the most in four months after the Japanese company lifted its earnings forecast on growth in its entertainment divisions, easing investor fears about possible US tariffs on chips. All Hail the Humble Speed Hump Mayor Asked to Explain $1.4 Billion of Wasted Johannesburg Funds Three Deaths Reported as NYC Legionnaires' Outbreak Spreads Major Istanbul Projects Are Stalling as City Leaders Sit in Jail PATH Train Service Resumes After Fire at Jersey City Station Momentum in Sony's music and games segments bolstered the Tokyo-based company's outlook, the company said Thursday. The number of monthly active users on its PlayStation platform rose 6% from a year ago, alongside total hours of gameplay. That's while its music segment logged a 5% revenue increase despite a hefty forex impact. The Japanese entertainment group raised its operating income forecast for the year ending March to ¥1.33 trillion ($9 billion), up 4% and roughly in line with analyst estimates. Back in May, in the midst of uncertainty around Washington's new import tax regime, Sony had warned its profit would take a ¥100 billion hit. Following Japan's trade deal with the US, it said it now sees a tariff impact of around ¥70 billion. Shares of Sony rose as much as 7.6% on the news, reversing earlier losses Thursday. The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers is growing faster than expected, while big hits in anime and smartphone games are fueling further expectations for growth, said Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda. 'But we need to closely watch how developments in US chip tariffs will affect Sony,' he said. The music unit has grown to be a reliable pillar of growth for Sony, bringing in a steady flow of revenue as opposed to the company's more prominent but fluctuating consumer electronics and image sensors. Royalty income from music streaming operators remains strong, and popular anime works produced under the Sony umbrella are helping catapult in-house artists into the mainstream. Income from Sony's hit anime operations is expected to increase in the months to come, with the latest Demon Slayer movie earning a record ¥12.9 billion in its first 10 days at the Japanese box office. Aniplex also operates Fate/Grand Order, a hit smartphone game that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. US President Donald Trump's threat to impose a 100% tariff on semiconductor imports and another possible levy on products containing chips weighs on Sony and other hardware makers, however. Sony makes camera sensors for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and most of its Android-based competitors. The declared tariffs, if implemented, may force a rejig of supply chains with far-reaching implications for exporters around the world. The PlayStation unit is promising to focus on profitability and to rein in marketing costs for hardware. The company's in-house studio will release Ghost of Yōtei, a sequel to Sony's hit game Ghost of Tsushima, in October which should contribute to beefier sales during the year-end shopping season. --With assistance from Mark Anderson. Japan's World Cosplay Summit to escape summer heat in 2027

Dressing up at the World Cosplay Summit can be makeup-meltingly sweaty in Japan's baking summer, and after this year's event in record heat, organisers have pushed the 2027 edition to November. The annual extravaganza, usually held in Nagoya, sees thousands of people from all over the world embody their chosen anime, manga and gaming stars in elaborate costumes, outlandish hairdos and zany face paints. Organisers said after this year's 23rd shindig ended Sunday -- 247,200 people attended over three days -- that next year's will also be in August, but for 2027, it will be in November. "This change was made in response to the extreme heat and other weather conditions," the event's executive committee said in a statement on Tuesday. The move was also to "strengthen our efforts to accommodate more international participants and to take into account trends in domestic and international tourists," it said. Japan this week set a new high of 41.8C, with tourist hotspot Kyoto in late July seeing 40C for the first time since records began. Summer last year was the joint hottest on record, equalling 2023, and was followed by the warmest autumn since records began 126 years earlier. Last month, 38,608 people were treated in hospital for heatstroke, data showed Tuesday, down from 43,195 in July 2024. Preliminary findings from the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Examiner's Office found 56 people in central Tokyo likely died from heatstroke this June and July. Of those, 54 died indoors, and most were aged 60 or older. Thirty-eight of them had air-conditioners but did not use them. stu-tmo/cwl
