Jennifer Aniston: We mourned Matthew Perry before his death

Telegraph3 days ago
Jennifer Aniston has said the Friends cast felt as if they had been mourning co-star Matthew Perry 'for a long time' before his death.
The Golden Globe-winning actress, 56, starred alongside Perry in the popular US sitcom for 10 years from 1994 to 2004.
Speaking about Perry's long-term battle with addiction, which he famously struggled with throughout his role as the sarcastic Chandler Bing, Aniston said: 'We did everything we could when we could.
'But it almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight.'
Perry died in 2023 aged 54 from the acute effects of ketamine and other factors that caused him to lose consciousness and drown in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home.
He had written about his battles with addiction the year before in his bestselling memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.
'I have mostly been sober since 2001, save for about 60 or 70 little mishaps,' he wrote.
Speaking about the death of her former close friend and co-star, Aniston told Vanity Fair: 'As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better. I'm glad that he's out of pain.'
She had previously spoken about her fear of losing him to his addiction in a broadcast interview with Diane Sawyer.
The actress became emotional when discussing it, adding: ' We weren't equipped to deal with it …the idea of even losing him…he's having a road, but he's all right.'
In 2018, Perry suffered a burst colon after overdosing on opioids and underwent multiple surgeries.
Aniston previously paid a touching tribute to the actor, saying that his life 'literally depended on' making people laugh.
She played Rachel Green in the hit US sitcom Friends which also starred Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc.
Discussing its impact on her career with the US magazine, she said: 'What helped raise me is something I got to put into the world and help other people.
'If [Friends] was the only thing on my resume, I would be very happy and blessed.'
Elsewhere, the actress also spoke about her star turn as famous news presenter Alex Levy on The Morning Show, which is returning to Apple TV in September for a fourth season.
Her love interest in the show is a rocket-building billionaire played by Jon Hamm. When asked if the character is loosely based on Elon Musk she disagreed, saying: 'I don't find him desirable in any way or shape.'
She also spoke about the media frenzy she faced in the 2000 when her relationship with Brad Pitt, 61, hit the headlines, particularly during their divorce in 2005.
Aniston said: 'It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas they had their tabloids.
'It's a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally.'
She added: 'I didn't have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it. We're human beings, even though some people don't want to believe we are.
'They think, 'You signed up for it, so you take it'. But we really didn't sign up for that.'
The actress also revealed that she swaps stories about Pitt with his ex-fiancee Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, saying: 'Of course, how could we not? We're girls.'
The full interview appears in Vanity Fair's September issue.

Tearful Kim Kardashian pleads with Kanye West: 'your personality was not like this a few years ago!' as he admits he'd rather 'be dead than be on medication' amid bipolar diagnosis in explosive documentary trailer

Kim Kardashian broke down in tears as she pleaded with her then husband Kanye West: 'your personality was not like this a few years ago!' in an explosive documentary trailer about the controversial rapper. The businesswoman, 44, could be heard getting upset during a heated argument with Kanye in a video teasing the upcoming In Whose Name? documentary. The beginning of the trailer, which was released on YouTube on Wednesday, showed a tense moment between Kardashian and West, who now goes by Ye, when they were still married. With her voice audibly shaking and seemingly sobbing Kim says to him: 'Your personality was not like this a few years ago!' The rapper then admitted that he stopped taking his medication for his bipolar disorder: 'I'm off my meds for five months now.' He later added: 'I'd rather be dead than to be on medication. Either they destroy me or I destroy it.' The pair were previously married from 2014 to 2022 and share four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. Their divorce proceedings and ongoing co-parenting dynamic has made headlines over the years - even back to when their marriage started breaking down in the public eye and as he continued sharing offensive social media posts years after their split. He previously opened up about begin diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016 after being hospitalized for a psychiatric emergency. However, earlier this year, West said he was misdiagnosed and has now been diagnosed as autistic, which is not a mental illness. Audio clips were stitched together with West talking and at other points, his voice was even yelling: 'It's a calling by the universe. Never tell me I'm going to wake up one day and have nothing.' Then, the then-couple could be seen sitting on a couch together, facing each other. After what appeared to be another tense conversation, she calmly said to him, 'We could talk about that later, but...' before he interrupts her: ''It ain't no but.' 'When I went to the hospital and one of the ideas was to do a church,' he narrated alongside clips of his Easter Sunday Service performance at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival, where he appeared to be crying as Chance the Rapper consoled him. 'Yeah, I was just being embarrassed or ashamed to cry, man,' he narrated alongside more clips of his activities over the years, including making music, filming artistic videos, spending time with his young children and designing fashion. In the trailer, West could be seen with their kids and traveling with their eldest daughter North West when she was a toddler Many of his recent controversies were not included in the trailer. Preceding the most controversial ones, one clip showed when he declared his presidential run and held up a sign. He was also notably still wearing his wedding ring 'When we're at the prisons, professing how Jesus can set you free, it's true,' an audio clip of a sermon played over clips of inmates in prison during church service. 'Thank you, Jesus. I decided to run,' the rapper said as a clip of West holding up a sign that read, 'YE4PRESIDENT,' flashed across the screen. In the trailer, West could be seen with their kids and traveling with their eldest daughter North West when she was a toddler. At one point in the explosive trailer, he was heard yelling: 'I almost killed my daughter.' Going back to how he stopped taking his medication, he was also heard declaring: 'I'd rather be dead than to be on medication. Either they destroy me or I destroy it.' 'It's a sad dream,' Kardashian's voice made one final appearance as West continued to vent. 'They're killing our ability to think outside of the box. And I'm almost like a masochist,' he said. 'I like whatever I want, when I want. It's worse.' In the concluding clip, he proclaimed: 'You know the best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece.' The trailer showed clips preceding when West got married to Bianca Censori, so it is unclear if the documentary will feature the 30-year-old Yeezy architect-turned-model. He held sermons of his own during that time, holding exclusive, spiritual gatherings to perform gospel music alongside his choir One of West's passions is creative direction and fashion design as seen in montages of him posing with hundreds of sneakers from his time working with Adidas and making Yeezy designs Later, another clip showed him during a quiet moment in his life as he traveled alone The trailer was riddled with artistic cinematography showing West around the world and even posing in the middle of the street in Paris The upcoming documentary was directed and produced by Nico Ballesteros, a filmmaker who started working as an intern for West at age 18 and filmed him over six years. The summary of the trailer read: 'Over six years, 18-year-old Nico Ballesteros captured an unfiltered portrait of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, offering unprecedented access into the private and public life of one of the most controversial figures in modern culture. 'The film charts Ye's meteoric rise to becoming the richest Black man in American history and the choices, contradictions, and collapses that have since redefined his legacy,' the description continued. 'Featuring appearances by Kim Kardashian and other influential figures from Ye's inner circle, the documentary explores the razor's edge between creative genius and self-destruction, revealing the cost of freedom in a fame-obsessed world.'

Darius Campbell Danesh's ex-wife Natasha Henstridge pays tribute to the late Scottish singer on the three-year anniversary of his death

Danesh's ex-wife Natasha Henstridge has paid tribute to the star on the third anniversary of his death. The Scottish singer, who shot to fame in ITV show Popstars, was found dead in his US apartment in August 2022. His death at the age of 41 was linked to toxic effects of the drug chloroethane which he was using to treat chronic neck pain following a car accident. The death was ruled an accident by a medical examiner. Taking to Instagram earlier this week, Natasha shared an array of pictures of Darius in a touching tribute. Among the snaps was a picture of Natasha balancing on Darius's back as the pair posed in front of the Eiffel Tower, both sporting huge smiles. She captioned the snaps: 'Love and light always. Miss you today…. Sending love to the Danesh's and everyone whose life he touched.' Darius' family had earlier confirmed his passing was being linked to respiratory arrest. They said: 'In the days leading up to his death, Darius had been suffering from severe nerve pain in his neck following car accidents in 2010 and 2021, which was progressively 'getting worse '. 'He had taken pain medication, marijuana and chloroethane to manage the intensity of the pain prior to his death. 'The night before Darius passed, he had dinner with close friends, who reported that 'Darius was in a lot of pain, but he was in good spirits when he was with us'. 'They stayed together until the early hours of the morning and made plans to meet the following day. 'When Darius did not show up and could not be reached, the hotel staff were asked to check on him. 'Around 11.50am on 11th August, Darius was found unresponsive in bed by the hotel staff in the apartment where he was staying, having inhaled chloroethane using a bag, which led to respiratory arrest. 'The Rochester Fire and Police Department pronounced Darius deceased shortly after at 12.01pm. The autopsy report also concluded that Darius' heart was twice the expected size. 'This may have contributed to his respiratory arrest.' The family added his death was determined to be a tragic accident and the police maintained there were no suspicious circumstances. They added: 'We will always remember Darius for his open-hearted warmth, generosity of spirit and the way he touched so many people's hearts and minds. 'He was an incredibly loving, caring and supportive son, brother and friend.. His spirit of love and light is still with us all.' Pop Idol contestants Will Young and Gareth Gates paid tribute describing him as 'driven, courageous and gentle'. Hollywood actor Gerard Butler said: 'To those lucky enough to have met Darius for more than a few minutes, they were deeply moved by his infectious laugh and barely containable zest for life. 'He was always armed with a smile, a booming voice, and a genuinely warm embrace that few could resist - nor would they want to. 'He was an incredible talent, a singer whose voice touched your soul and an actor with great presence.' Campbell's debut single, Colourblind, was released in July 2002 and went straight to number one, marking the start of a run of top 10 releases. The song re-entered music charts following his death and several days later took the top spot on the iTunes download chart.

It's official: The infamous Melbourne Star will spin again in 2026

It's been a sad four years since Melbourne's iconic (and often much-maligned) ferris wheel ground to a Covid-induced halt. Now, the owners of the Melbourne Star have officially confirmed that the infamous attraction is opening up again – and is due to start spinning in Docklands (hopefully) by the end of 2026. The 120-metre tall wheel has been standing tragically still since it shut up shop in the September of 2021, with many people assuming this was the end for the Melbourne Star, which had been in operation for 13 years. But now, in excellent news for ferris wheel enthusiasts, the sky-high attraction is coming back, an exact opening date is yet to be announced, the team has confirmed a few key details about the Melbourne Star's renaissance. It's set to be managed by Skyline Attractions (the same people behind Skyline Melbourne and the St Kilda ferris wheel) in partnership with technology solutions agency the Robu Group and US-based carnival and entertainment company Ray Cammack Shows. The relaunch of the observation wheel has been described by Lord Mayor Nick Reece as 'a huge moment for Melbourne and a vote of confidence in the future of Docklands,' – with the City of Melbourne supporting the project. Further details – including ticketing prices and related activations are yet to be announced, but based on what we've seen from the Skyline Attractions team at their other venues, we're expecting big things. According to the organisers, visitor numbers in the first year are estimated at a quarter of a million. In the meantime, you'll just have to get your spinning fix at Skyline, which is located by the Yarra River.
