Uruguay, however, staged a comeback in the final quarter. Ines de Posadas scored in the 54th minute and Milagros Seigal equalised three minutes later, making it 2-2.
In the shootout, India maintained their composure as Geeta, Kanika and Lalthantluangi scored three successive goals, while Uruguay managed just one conversion.
India will face the hosts Argentina on Sunday.
India's campaign has been a rollercoaster one and nothing less than thrilling. On May 28, goalkeeper and skipper Nidhi pulled off four successive saves as India edged past hosts Argentina 2-0 on a shootout after a 1-1 deadlock.
Kanika (44′) scored India's lone goal during regulation time, while Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi netted in the shootout to secure the win against Argentina.
Argentina got off to a strong start, with Milagros Del Valle (10′) giving the home team the lead in the first quarter before India responded in the third quarter through Kanika's strike.
With no further goals, the game stayed tied and went into the penalty shootout.
Saturday's match was India's second win against Uruguay. On May 26, Kanika Siwach scored a brace as India bagged a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the South American team.
Apart from Kanika (46', 50'), Sonam (21') was on target for India, while Milagros Seigal (3') and Agustina Mari (24') scored for Uruguay in the match in Rosario on Sunday.
Uruguay took an initial lead in the third minute through Seigal's penalty corner. Sonam pulled India level in the second quarter, converting a penalty corner in the 21st minute.
But Uruguay regained the lead soon after, with Mari scoring off another penalty corner. India bounced back in the final quarter as Kanika netted twice, first off a penalty corner and then with a field goal, to seal the win against Uruguay.

Messi back with Argentina and Ancelotti debuts with Brazil in South American World Cup qualifying

SAO PAULO — Brazil's new coach Carlo Ancelotti is getting a little help from his old friend Casemiro as he prepares for his debut in South American World Cup qualifying at Ecuador. Meanwhile star Lionel Messi is expected to play Thursday for Argentina at Chile after a seven-month absence. Veteran midfielder Casemiro, who has had success with the Italian coach at Real Madrid, is likely to be a starter in a match Thursday that could ease the pressure on Brazil, currently in fourth position in the standings. A home win could also put Ecuador close to its berth in the World Cup. The 37-year Messi seems to be in shape to return for Argentina. His most recent game for the World Cup champions was in November 2024. A muscle injury prevented him from playing in the March doubleheader, in which Lionel Scaloni's team secured its spot to defend its title. Argentina leads the round-robin competition with 31 points in 14 matches. Ecuador , Uruguay , Brazil , Paraguay , and Colombia could secure direct births this month. The seventh-place team, which will advance to an international playoff, could be Venezuela , Bolivia or even Peru and Chile . Also on Thursday, Paraguay will host Uruguay. Friday's matches are Colombia vs. Peru and Venezuela against Bolivia. Ancelotti has been very communicative with returning players Casemiro and striker Richarlison. Both players were in Brazil's starting lineup in the 15 minutes allowed for journalists to watch practice at the Corinthians training ground in Sao Paulo. Next week, Brazil will prepare at the same venue for the match against Paraguay. Raphinha, who is suspended for the game in Guayaquil, will return to the team next week. Defender Alexsandro, who also hopes to have his national team debut this month, said he was excited about Ancelotti's interest in long conversations with his players. The Italian is still learning Portuguese, but managed to get his message across in Spanish, the Lille player added. 'I saw after our trainings he is very communicative, always asking questions, willing to know more, giving tips. That's important for us to grow, get all the experience and the achievements he has,' Alexsandro said Tuesday. 'We need to take this to the next few matches, qualify and get to the World Cup.' Defender Marquinhos, who had his first training with Ancelotti on Tuesday after lifting the Champions League title with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, said Ancelotti's arrival will boost Brazil's chances to add a sixth star to its crest. 'You can see that the arrival of our coach brings this energy for the start, it is about something new coming. This short run until the World Cup, having this energy, it will be very important," Marquinhos said. Messi's return will add to three new faces Argentina is expected to feature against Chile, if their first training session was an indication. Defenders Kevin Lomónaco and Mariano Troilo , and striker Franco Mastantuono, the 17-year-old River Plate targeted by major European clubs, are likely to get tested. Scaloni will have to decide who will replace defender Nicolás Otamendi, who is suspended for the match at the National Stadium in Santiago. His main options are Leonardo Balerdi and Facundo Medina. Suspensions and injuries will also force Argentina to change its midfield. Alexis Mac Allister was ruled out, while Enzo Fernández and Leandro Paredes are suspended. Frequent starter Rodrigo De Paul is expected to be joined by Giovanni Lo Celso and Exequiel Palacios. soccer: /hub/soccer

This landlocked country is smaller than California yet operates 'largest' navy, country is..., located...

New Delhi: We understand that countries that are surrounded by the sea or connected to it have navies. The navy of such a country protects its borders. However, you might be surprised to know that there is an interesting country in the world that is landlocked on all sides but still has the 'largest' navy. Here, 'largest' means the largest among landlocked countries. Yes, that country is Paraguay, and currently, the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, is on a visit to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met with Peña. Let's learn more about this country. This country, which has an area of 157,000 square miles, is smaller than California and is located on the South American continent. It is surrounded by Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia on all sides. Now you might wonder how a navy operates if it is landlocked? Paraguay's navy operates through the country's rivers. The most significant among them is the Paraná River, which can be seen entering the sea near Buenos Aires on the map. Paraguay's navy operates with small vessels. Paraguay is known today as the country with the largest navy in the world that is landlocked on all sides. It has a River Defense Corps, Coast Guard, and Naval Aviation. Paraguay's navy is connected to the sea via Argentina and its rivers. The Paraguayan Navy was established in 1881 and is said to have around 5,500 personnel. In fact, there are many countries in the world that are landlocked yet maintain a navy. These include Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Laos, and Paraguay. It is said that in Paraguay, the heat is so intense that some houses do not even have doors. In such cases, people signal their arrival by clapping.
