Tuco Tokkos met the media Saturday after his second-round submission win over Junior Tafa at UFC on ESPN 70.
Tokkos (11-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) submitted Tafa (6-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday for his first win in the promotion. The U.K.-based light heavyweight said the fact he had to go through some adversity to get it means he'll appreciate it more later.
"That's what I wanted. Obviously, we all want to finish quickly. But he made me earn it, and I'm actually grateful for that," Tokkos told UFC.com after the fight. "I had to go out there and prove it to myself. It was hard to come by, but I got it in the end. I'm proud of myself."
Tokkos said he wants to fight on a card in the U.K. – and hopes now that the UFC officially has a British champion in heavyweight kingpin Tom Aspinall, maybe he can make his way onto an event back home.

UFC on ESPN 71 headliner HyunSung Park vows to knock out Tatsuro Taira: 'I will break him'

LAS VEGAS – HyunSung Park isn't too worried about not having time to prepare for a short-notice main event against Tatsuro Taira. In the UFC on ESPN 71 headliner at the UFC Apex, Park (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) meets Taira (16-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in a five-round bout at flyweight. It's a fight that came together on less than a week's notice when Taira's original opponent, Amir Albazi, went down with an injury. Park was scheduled to face former title challenger Steve Erceg next weekend at UFC on ESPN 72, but was pulled for this main event opportunity. "Since this was such a short-notice fight, actually there was no camp, no preparation," Park told reporters through an interpreter at Wednesday's media day. "So, I'm just gonna fight with my regular skills." Park's "regular skills" are anything but – he's an exciting finisher who has won nine consecutive fights by submission or knockout, including his first three under the UFC banner. In his debut year in 2023, Park submitted Seung Guk Choi and stopped Shannon Ross with strikes. A knee injury took him out of action for 2024, but in his first fight of 2025 in May, Park kept the finishes coming with a first-round submission of Carlos Hernandez. South Korea's Park jumps straight from prelims fights into a main event slot against Japan's Taira, who has headlined multiple UFC Apex events. Although he recognizes Taira as a top opponent in the division, and he will have to deal with cutting weight a week earlier than expected, Park is confident he'll find a way to win. "He's a good MMA fighter, but not too great, so I think I'll be able to beat him," Park said. "... Tatsuro is a tricky fighter, so this makes me really excited and I'm ready for it." While Park acknowledges Taira's reach advantage might be a tough puzzle to solve, he believes he will figure it out in order to finish the fight early by knockout in Round 2 or 3. "I will smash Taira Tatsuro," Park said in English. "... I will break him."

UFC signs former GLORY title challenger Yousri Belgaroui for Azamat Bekoev showdown

After two appearances on Dana White's Contender Series, Yousri Belgaroui will finally make the walk to the octagon. Belgaroui (8-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) takes on Azamat Bekoev (20-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in a middleweight bout at a UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 18 from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, promotion officials announced Monday. The pair were originally in discussions to fight at Saturday's UFC on ESPN 71 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but the bout was scrapped due to Belgaroui's visa issues. Belgaroui, 33, split his two appearances on DWCS. In his second attempt at a UFC contract, the former GLORY Kickboxing title challenger scored a late TKO of Taiga Iwasaki at DWCS 71 this past September, but still wasn't awarded a deal. Belgaroui fought both former UFC champions Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira in kickboxing, but lost to both of them. Bekoev, 29, is on a an eight-fight win streak. The former LFA champion finished both Zach Reese and "The Ultimate Fighter," Season 32 winner Ryan Loder by first-round TKO in the UFC. With the addition, the UFC Vancouver lineup includes:

Paul Felder criticizes Ilia Topuria for preferring vacating over fighting Arman Tsarukyan

Paul Felder is tired of UFC champions not fighting the rightful No. 1 contenders. Felder was particularly talking about UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC), who said he'd vacate the title before fighting Arman Tsarukyan (23-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC). Felder acknowledges it may be gamesmanship by Topuria, but can't help but be baffled by this mindset. "The guy's the No. 1 contender," Felder said of Tsarukyan on the "Believe You Me" podcast. "And to say that you would rather relinquish the belt than fight him is? Come on, man. We're getting a little carried away. We've talked about this before where these guys in this generation of fighters, when they get to this top position now, are so willing to jump around weight classes and and try to deny fighting guys. "It's like, that's not how it f*cking works, man! If the guy's No. 1 and the UFC says, 'This is the guy,' you're the champ. You're holding that belt. That's who you fight. If you're the best and he's not on your level and all this kind of stuff, then prove it! Just go out there and prove it. I hate that, and I'm not saying that I think that he doesn't think he could beat him." Granted, Tsarukyan will likely have to fight one more time after withdrawing from his title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in January. Topuria recently said he thinks his first title defense will be against either Justin Gaethje or Paddy Pimblett, but Felder is irked by "El Matador" ruling Tsarukyan out of the equation. "I hate it. I was like, come on, man, here we go," Felder said. "Here we go again. Now you've got a champion who's just looking for the biggest thing. Look, the UFC is not going to try to put you in a position that's not going to be a big thing."
