Gómez received a second yellow card in the 116th minute after tackling Igor Jesus in midfield to prevent Botafogo from starting a counterattack.

When does the transfer window close and what time is the deadline?

Transfer deadline day is fast approaching with a number of big moves still to be completed. Several clubs have made notable additions between now and the end of last season, with a mini-window that opened up ahead of the Club World Cup facilitating moves for players including Matheus Cunha, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rayan Cherki among others. And the transfers have ramped up since the window re-opened on 16 June, with moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres reaching into £60m territory while Liverpool paid a club-record £100m for Florian Wirtz, with that deal potentially becoming a Premier League record. Almost every club in the Premier League remains keen on at least one addition before the end of the window, with the deadline to secure the last few deals fast approaching. Here's everything you need to know about the final days of the transfer window: When does the transfer window shut? For all clubs in the Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership, the transfer window closes on Monday 1 September at 7pm BST. Clubs have an extra grace period of two more hours to complete their deals as long as they submit any relevant paperwork to the FA before the 7pm deadline, so you may also hear of deals being sealed after 7pm on the day. When is the next transfer window? The next transfer window comes in January, beginning on 1 January and running until the end of the month. Though the final date of the window is yet to be confirmed, it is likely that it will run until Monday 2 February as the final day of January falls on a weekend. What are the biggest signings of the transfer window so far? The move to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield remains the biggest deal of the summer window, with Liverpool paying at least £100m and potentially a fee up to £116m depending on add-ons. Liverpool also have the 'honour' of the second largest deal this summer – having paid £69m for French striker Hugo Ekitike – as well as one of the largest sales, having sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5m. Manchester United have the third, fifth and sixth most expensive transfers at the time of writing, with the deal for Benjamin Sesko coming in at an initial £66.5m, while Bryan Mbeumo cost £65m and Matheus Cunha set them back £62.5m. The fourth most expensive deal is a surprising one, with Galatasaray having paid Napoli just under £65m for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. What deals could still be done? There are a number of huge deals that could still be completed before the 1 September deadline, and the future of Newcastle's Alexander Isak is potentially the story of the summer. Newcastle rejected a bid worth over £100m from Liverpool, but the Sweden striker could still make the move. Meanwhile, Chelsea have plenty of activity left in this market, with both outgoings and incomings likely. Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho remain of interest – with the Blues likely to make a bid for both players – while Enzo Maresca wants to offload Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. Spurs are chasing additions in midfield and potentially up front after an injury to James Maddison and the loss of Son Heung-min to LAFC, while clubs including Everton, Fulham and Burnley continue to iron out the final details of several deals ahead of the 1 September deadline.

Chelsea knock back £42m proposal from West Ham United for Andrey Santos

West Ham United have tabled a £42 million bid for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, according to Diario AS journalist Eduardo Burgos. They want reinforcements in the middle of the park at the London Stadium club following the dismal 3-0 defeat to Sunderland today. Santos could be a solid signing, but Chelsea do not want to let him go as they consider him to be a key player in manager Enzo Maresca's plans. They have rejected the bid. The 21-year-old will be hoping to play regularly for Chelsea after spending the last 18 months on loan with Ligue 1 club Strasbourg. Santos joined the Stamford Bridge club from Vasco da Gama in 2023. He spent the first half of 2023-24 on loan with Nottingham Forest before he was recalled after making just two appearances in five months. He played four games for the Blues at the Club World Cup, but is not guaranteed a starting place in the starting XI this season. West Ham struggled against the newly-promoted Black Cats today, and manager Graham Potter knows he needs to make quality additions to his squad before the summer transfer window closes. They have signed Mads Hermansen, Callum Wilson, Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf this summer. Jean-Clair Todibo's loan move was also made permanent, but their squad still need reinforcements. West Ham are back in action next Friday for their first home game of the season when they take on Chelsea. Santos could be featuring against them as they look to bounce back from today's disappointing result.

Richarlison's Revival Leads The Way For Refreshed Tottenham Hotspur

His trademark pigeon celebration is the same. Richarlison quite possibly isn't. The number nine was one of the leading lights from the opening weekend of the Premier League, scoring twice as Tottenham Hotspur defeated promoted side Burnley on Saturday. The reinvigorated Brazilian, with the momentum and backing to finally become a prolific forward at Spurs, best embodies a team on the up. It's worth noting that a similar tape has played before. Richarlison has previously been an effective striker, while Tottenham, at the beginning of ex-coach Ange Postecoglou's tenure, picked up 26 points from a possible 30 to start the 2023/24 league campaign. In both cases, neither developed into a genuine force in the division. And it's only the first match this time around. Richarlison's character arc is significant, though. Fewer than 18 months ago, the number nine spoke bravely about his battles against depression following the World Cup in 2022 to ESPN. Being a professional athlete, with its expectations and incessant scrutiny from the stadium to the digital space, brings challenges regardless of the attractive pay packets. He now looks in a much better place, which is great to see. Many (guilty here) would have chosen his striking partner, Dominic Solanke, as the apex of their Fantasy Football teams. However, the ex-Everton frontman seems to have the advantage over Solanke, spearheading the lineup and swivelling his long limbs to net two excellent goals and start on the right footing. Richarlison has rough edges to his game. Still, you don't rack up half a century of caps for Brazil without having clear strengths. Someone key to the 28-year-old's fortunes is Spurs coach Thomas Frank. In Richarlison, he likely sees a physical competitor from whom he can extract the best for the function of the lineup. Away from the tactics whiteboard, the Dane—once a teacher—could be the mentor Richarlison requires. Ivan Toney, Yoanne Wissa, and Bryan Mbeumo were the beneficiaries at Brentford—Frank's former club. 'I always liked Richarlison,' said Frank when asked about how the South American fits his plans amid talk of him leaving this summer. 'I always thought he was good when he played for Everton. When he came to Tottenham, we all knew he had struggled with some injuries or been unlucky with them. So, we're very aware that we need to build him up and protect him. We can't say, after playing two games back-to-back, where he did well in both, that we are out of the woods. We need to prove it for a longer time. But the early signs are good.' Watch Out For Dark Horse Tottenham Tottenham is not even at the periphery of discussions around which names are best-placed to compete for the Premier League title this term, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea getting the most attention in that regard. Having won a rare trophy in May and being nearly guaranteed to upgrade on its 16th-place league finish, Spurs can approach the season without any major weight on their shoulders. The only pressure could be financial, namely qualifying again for the Champions League and the riches it brings. It's another transitional period for Tottenham. Postecoglou's era involved the departure of all-time leading scorer Harry Kane while switching to a brand of expansive high-stakes soccer. As for Frank's Spurs, they have lost another worldwide star in Son Heung-min and are adjusting to a more direct and adaptable style. On first viewing, a resurgent Richarlison will be a central piece for a club that was in a less-than-ideal situation for much of 2024/25.
