Rainbow armbands are dividing opinion at Euro 2025

Some captains are wearing them, some are not.
Rainbow armbands at the Women's European Championship are proving more divisive than perhaps intended for a symbol promoting tolerance and inclusion.
UEFA is giving team captains the option of wearing armbands with the bright colors of the rainbow flag or plain monocolored versions with the word 'respect' when they play.

Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport Teased as Winged GT3 RS Competitor

The Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport is a new version of the German coupe the brand just teased for the first time. According to Mercedes, it will be powered by a V-8 and is being developed to set new record drives, presumably with the Nürburgring at the top of that list. Officially, the GT Track Sport is labeled a concept, but production is likely, as the brand says it offers a "glimpse into the future of the AMG GT family." To give you an idea of where the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe falls on the sliding scale between surgical and brutish in its demeanor, take a look at our most recent review, where we compared the 2025 GT63 S E Performance to a hippopotamus. Thankfully, despite the GT Coupe's brash nature, Mercedes-AMG hasn't given up on it and instead developed a new track-focused model aptly named the Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport. Mercedes-AMG According to Mercedes, the new GT Track Sport is being developed "to set record new times," which we can only assume means the automaker is planning a Nürburgring attempt in the near future. No performance details are given, but with Mercedes seemingly targeting competitors like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, upgrades are sure to be plentiful. Given the on-track performance focus of the new concept, it's likely the GT Coupe ditches the 2+2 layout in favor of a strictly two-seat design. And while the entire car is shrouded behind a camouflaged curtain, the large front splitter and aggressive swan-neck rear wing stick out as performance upgrades. Mercedes-AMG There's no word on output yet, but we do know the GT Track Sport sticks to a V-8 mill under the hood. Between the GT55 and the GT63 trims, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 setup in the current AMG GT lineup produces between 469 and 603 horsepower. Add in the hybrid batteries of the GT63 S E Performance, and the combined output surges to 805. Mercedes-AMG Mercedes-AMG Mercedes hasn't confirmed that the GT Track Sport is actually headed for production. The model is officially labeled as a concept, but given that Mercedes says the teaser offers a "glimpse into the future of the AMG GT family," we fully expect it to enter production. Here's hoping that, despite the car's name, the Mercedes-AMG team kept its cool long enough to fill out the requisite paperwork to make the GT Track Sport road legal. Michigan, Western Michigan in talks to open 2026 football season in Germany

The University of Michigan and Western Michigan University are in talks to open their 2026 football season on foreign soil in Germany, the two schools announced Friday. The Wolverines would host the Broncos at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026. It would mark the first non-conference game Michigan has played outside of North America and the first time the Wolverines have played a Mid-American Conference school away from Michigan Stadium. "We are in advanced discussions to create this first-of-its-kind opportunity for our student-athletes and fans," said Warde Manuel, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "The University of Michigan is one of the few worldwide brands in college athletics and the interest in playing an international game would be unique. This would be a great opportunity to teach 'Go Blue' to a new group of fans in Germany." Deutsche Bank Park is home to Eintracht Frankfurt of the Bundesliga, which is the top level of professional soccer in Germany. The retractable roof stadium features 55,000 seats and has hosted two NFL regular season games. "I am excited about the football and educational experience this game could provide for our players," said Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore. "We are always looking for unique opportunities to expose our student-athletes to other cultures. In the last 10 years, our program has been to Italy, France and South Africa, and this game would provide another chance to grow our international fanbase." The European date would be the first game for the Broncos outside of North America and their second international contest. WMU's first international game was the 2007 International Bowl against Cincinnati at Rogers Centre in Toronto. "This is an incredible opportunity for our football program, our student-athletes, and the entire Western Michigan University community," said WMU head coach Lance Taylor in a statement. "To potentially open the 2026 season on an international stage against one of the most storied programs in college football is both an honor and an exciting challenge we would embrace wholeheartedly. An international game offers our players not only a unique competitive experience, but also an invaluable educational one. Traveling to Germany and representing Western Michigan University abroad will give our student-athletes cultural exposure and memories they'll carry long beyond their playing days. It's the kind of life experience that perfectly reflects the spirit and values of college athletics." The game was originally scheduled to be played at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 5. Michigan will release the date and location of he 2026 opener soon.

Giants training camp takeaways: Sloppy offense and a scary collision highlight Day 3

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants wrapped up their first week of training camp Friday, hitting the field for their third practice before they're slated to take a quick breather Saturday. Here's everything you need to know about Friday's session: Friday brought a notable appearance from LT Andrew Thomas, who spent time working out on the sidelines at the beginning of practice. Thomas, who is recovering from a Lisfranc injury, was added to the PUP list ahead of camp but Giants general manager Joe Schoen said he 'anticipates' Thomas will be ready for the opener. Advertisement The other two players who missed the first two days of practice were again absent: RB Eric Gray (knee) and OLB Victor Dimukeje (pec). Both entered camp with injuries. We had our first really scary moment of camp when outside linebacker Brian Burns and wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson collided at full speed, producing a very audible impact. The two ran into one another near the end of a play that saw tight end Greg Dulcich running down the sidelines after hauling in a long pass from quarterback Russell Wilson. Both Burns and Robinson stayed down on the ground for a few minutes getting attention from trainers before later walking off the field. 'I was right there, and it was loud,' safety Jevón Holland said. 'I saw it just like y'all saw it. You just run into somebody. You don't see somebody, they T-bone you in the car.' While wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was at Friday's practice, he didn't partake in team reps. Late in Thursday's practice, Hyatt had to have his left leg stretched after cramping up. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart finished Friday's practice on a high note, hitting fellow rookie Cam Skattebo for a touchdown on a corner route during 11-on-11s. The throw to the running back came on the final play of a situational period. While veteran QB Jameis Winston handled most of the second-team reps that series, Dart came in for the final two plays. Rookie connection! Jaxson Dart to Cam Skattebo TD to end a very hot practice #giants — Charlotte Carroll (@charlottecrrll) July 25, 2025 On Thursday, Dart had taken every second-team offense rep, but it was a nearly even split in those reps on Friday: Winston took 12, and Dart got 11. Both also took two reps with the third team. In team periods, Dart completed 6-of-8 passes, while Winston went 9-for-10. Winston's lone incompletion came in the situational period on an end-zone throw wide receiver Zach Pascal just couldn't get to. Advertisement Wilson finished 9-of-14 passing in team periods, though those numbers somewhat conceal a sloppy day featuring multiple snap issues. As my beat partner Dan Duggan noted, center John Michael Schmitz airmailed one snap. Another Schmitz snap came in high and sailed through Wilson's hands, while another snap caught Wilson by surprise, which led to busted play. Schmitz doesn't have a history of errant snaps, but this is something to keep an eye on as camp progresses. Wilson also didn't seem to be at his sharpest, as the veteran QB held onto the ball longer than he had in the first two practice of camp. Again, it's nothing to be concerned about now, but it's something to remember as we get further into camp. Deonte Banks and Cor'Dale Flott continued to split reps for the CB2 spot with the starters. Banks notched a notable pass breakup in the end zone on a deep shot to wide receiver Darius Slayton from Wilson. Caught the tail end of CB Deonte Banks coverage and PBU on WR Darius Slayton #giants — Charlotte Carroll (@charlottecrrll) July 25, 2025 Over at right guard, there has been a continued rotation with Evan Neal and Greg Van Roten splitting time with the starters during 11-on-11 periods. Neal, who's making the transition inside from tackle, will face his first true test at guard when the pads come on in Monday's practice. Former Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh attended Friday's practice to announce his official retirement from the NFL. A 2013 first-round selection by the Giants, Pugh spent five seasons in New York before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. Pugh returned to New York during the 2023 season, signing with the Giants amid a flurry of injuries at the position. Coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2022 season, Pugh returned to the Giants in 2023 and quickly created a viral moment when instead of saying the college he attended during a Sunday Night Football broadcast, he instead said he came to the Giants 'straight off the couch.' Advertisement Pugh did not play last season. On the very next play following the Burns-Robinson collision, Wilson connected with wide receiver Malik Nabers for a deep touchdown. Cornerback Paulson Adebo appeared to trip while in coverage, but Nabers still had the edge on Adebo and made the play. It was the first time this camp we've seen Wilson air it out to Nabers, and the result was as good as any Giant fan could have hoped for. Between Wilson peppering Nabers with targets on Day 1 and their touchdown here, the pair seem to be building a quick connection. Moonball to Leek. Easy. ☄️ — New York Giants (@Giants) July 25, 2025 'Heat is heat. It's hotter in Florida. It's closer to the equator, so it's science.' – Holland on Friday's extreme heat Saturday is the Giants' first off day of camp. The Giants will conduct their fourth training camp practice at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. The session is open to fans.
