Did Bob Dylan Send a Political Message By Singing ‘Masters of War' for the First Time Since 2016?
Dylan has taken very few political stances since the Civil Rights Movements of the early Sixties, refusing to even condemn the Vietnam War, and his views today on basically any issue are impossible to know. But it's hard to ignore the fact he's bringing the song out as wars continue to rage in Ukraine and Gaza without any clear end in sight.

He did something similar at the start of the Gulf War on February 20, 1991, when he played a ragged, reggae-tinged 'Master of War' at the Grammy's after being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. But when he took to the podium to accept the honor from Jack Nicholson, he made no mention of the conflict.
He instead paraphrased Psalm 27:10 by saying, 'Well, my daddy, he didn't leave me too much, you know? He was a very simple man and he didn't leave me a lot. But what he did tell me was this. He did say, 'Son…it's possible to become so defiled in this world that your own mother and father will abandon you. And if that happens, God will always believe in your own ability to mend your own ways.'
'Masters of War' is one of several Sixties classics he's reintroduced back into his setlist on the Outlaw Musical Festival this summer. He's also done 'The Times They Are A-Changin',' 'Mr. Tambourine Man,' 'Positively Fourth Street,' 'It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry,' 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right,' and 'Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues.'
There are also several obscure covers songs in his set, including Charlie Rich's 'I'll Make It All Up To You,' Bobby Blue Bland's 'Share You Love With Me' and George 'Wild Child' Butler's 'Axe and the Wind.'
The Outlaw Music Festival continues Saturday evening at Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It wraps up September 19 at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. Dylan then heads off to Europe in October for a long run of shows across much of the continent.

‘Chicago Fire' cast changes: See who's returning and who's not
Season 14 of 'Chicago Fire' premieres on NBC on Wednesday, October 1, but some cast members aren't returning to the procedural drama. Daniel Kyri, who plays Darren Ritter, will have only a limited role in the upcoming season. He penned an emotional goodbye message after shooting his final episode. 'Yesterday, I filmed my last scenes as Ritter & I'm still so amazed that my first-ever TV gig — a role that was originally meant for just three episodes — turned into seven incredible years (SEVEN?!?!! Whatttt???!) and spanned eight seasons of this iconic show,' he wrote via Instagram on Thursday, August 14. Kyri added that he 'can't wait' for fans to see what's in store for Ritter this season. He began playing the character during season 7 of 'Chicago Fire.' Jake Lockett, who has played Sam Carver since season 11, was also written out of season 14. 'While I don't exactly know what the future looks like, I do know that it won't be exactly what it was and I am going to miss the hell out of that. So much pride in this journey,' Lockett wrote via Instagram in April when his departure was announced. 'Chicago Fire' showrunner Andrea Newman told TVInsider that the new character is 'charming' and has a rich 'family history in the first responder world, much of it buried.' As for the returning cast, Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd) and Dermot Mulroney (Dom Pascal) have all signed on to season 14. David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Joe Minoso (Joe Cruz), Jocelyn Hudon (Lizzie Novak), Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami), and Christian Stolte (Mouch McHolland) are also expected to reprise their roles. After three seasons, the controversial HBO Max spinoff has ended. I couldn't help but wonder … is this really the last time we'll see Carrie Bradshaw? The Sex and the City revival series, And Just Like That…, came to an end last night after three seasons. The controversial reboot, which premiered on HBO Max in 2021, was hardly perfect — and was often criticized by O.G. SATC fans, even as they continued to tune in. Still, bidding adieu to Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her besties, Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), is bittersweet. The AJLT series finale marks the end of our collective witnessing of these enduring female friendships. It really is the end of an era. Again. 'Farewell to And Just Like That. You were a show that should have never been made but I would've watched 20 more seasons of you. Why am I crying?' one fan asked on TikTok, while another declared, 'Was AJLT good? No. Did I cry over the ending? Abso-f****ng-lutely. The end of an era.'
