MAGA Personality's Defense Of Trump Doesn't Land The Way He Intended
MAGA personality Charlie Kirk tried to defend PresidentDonald Trump onFox News Thursday with a statement that left him with a proverbial egg on his face. Kirk was on Will Cain's show discussing California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who recently announced a ballot initiativein his state designed to offset the controversial redistricting ploy being attempted by Republicans in Texas ahead of the 2026 congressional elections. Related: Since Newsom is one of those D-D-D-Democrats who inspires conservative pundits to fearmonger, it's evident his plans weren't going to be praised on Fox News. At one point, Kirk, who was on Newsom's podcast earlier this year, accused the governor of being 'someone who is super inauthentic and, honestly, fraudulent.' He then attempted to contrast Newsom's so-called inauthenticity with Trump, saying the president 'is the exact same person in private as he is in public.' Of course, the issue many people have with Trump isn't that he's 'inauthentic' or acts one way in public and another in private. It's that he's, as Ann Coulter said last year, 'an awful, awful person' who, as Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) pointed out on Wednesday, is trying to 'take over this country as a fascist dictator.' Snarky people on social media were happy to point out this distinction to Kirk. Related... McKinney considers ban on sitting or lying on the ground in downtown area
The City of McKinney is considering a new ordinance that could make sitting or lying on the ground in certain public areas illegal—particularly in the historic downtown district. The proposal comes amid growing concerns from business owners and city officials about the presence of transients, homeless individuals, and panhandlers around the town square. "Downtown McKinney is absolutely unique. We've got one of the best commercial historic districts in the state of Texas," said Tom Meredith, a downtown building owner. He and others say the area's appeal is being affected by people camping or loitering near storefronts. The proposed ordinance would make it unlawful to sit or lie down on public sidewalks, streets, or alleyways within the downtown area. It would also prohibit camping in those spaces. "Our job one is for our citizens to feel safe and for our businesses to operate in a manner that helps them be profitable," said McKinney Mayor Bill Cox. He noted that the ordinance could be revised during a city council meeting next week. The city previously installed dividers on benches to discourage people from lying down, but business owners say the measure hasn't stopped people from camping outside their doors. Some residents have criticized the proposal on social media, suggesting it could be used to unfairly target individuals. "This sounds like a way to make existing behavior illegal," one commenter wrote. "Like if a cop doesn't like what you are doing, they can just cite this as a reason for arrest." Cox responded by saying police would use discretion in enforcing the ordinance. "We would still welcome the wedding pictures and the photographs and all of the things that people do — the grandparents with the grandchildren sitting on the park bench," he said. "But at the same time, if people are sleeping on a park bench or on the sidewalk, the goal is to prevent that type of activity."

Obama labels Texas redistricting push 'a power grab that undermines our democracy'
Former President Barack Obama, accused Texas Republicans — who are pushing to pass redistricting legislation in the Lone Star State legislature — of engaging in gerrymandering, which involves redrawing district lines to benefit a particular political party. Texas Republicans trying to pass redistricting legislation during a special session have been stymied by state House Democratic lawmakers fleeing the state in order to deny the quorum required for votes. "We can't lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year's midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy," Obama declared in social media posts. "Dems only call it 'gerrymandering' when it's in a Republican state," GOP Sen. Mike Lee of Utah remarked when retweeting Obama's post on X. "When it happens in Illinois, they call it 'democracy.'" Obama made the comments on social media platforms when sharing posts by All On The Line, an effort which he has previously indicated that he helped former Attorney General Eric Holder launch. "Three years ago, I helped @EricHolder launch @AllOnTheLine, a people-powered campaign to fight gerrymandering and advocate for fair redistricting. All On The Line is driven by the core belief that voters should choose their representatives—not the other way around," Obama declared in a 2022 post on X. Holder served as attorney general during much of Obama's White House tenure. Obama's comments in that 2022 tweet echoed remarks he made during his final State of the Union Address, which he delivered in January of 2016. During that speech, Obama opined that the nation needed to "end the practice of drawing our congressional districts so that politicians can pick their voters, and not the other way around."
