'He'll play for Australia': Stuart's not-so Strange tip
Unknown to most NRL fans before the season's start, Strange bagged a spectacular try-scoring hat-trick in Friday night's 28-12 win over Manly to lead the Raiders back to the top of the NRL ladder.
But it wasn't merely the tries, but more the manner in which he scored them - and when - that drew lavish praise from his veteran coach.

After collecting Canberra's opening try in the 10th minute, Strange took the game by the scruff off the neck when the Raiders found themselves behind on the scoreboard midway through the second half.
First he took on and beat the Manly defence to storm over in the 54th minute.
Then Strange skilfully reeled in an audacious flick pass from coach Stuart's son Jed down the left wing to realistically put the game beyond Manly's reach.
"He's got qualities of a representative player already as a young person, and I don't say that outlandishly," Stuart said.
"For a young player such as Ethan to be able to give off energy to his teammates is similar to Laurie Daley when Laurie was a young player."
With a favourable run home, Canberra are fast firming to claim their first premiership since Stuart and Daley were at the forefront of the legendary Green Machine that won three between 1989 and 1994.
But Stuart is predicting even greater honours for Strange - and doesn't mind sharing his thoughts.
"I've got a very strong opinion of where he's going to go as a player," the former Blues coach and premiership-winning mentor said.
"You look at his game today to where he started with us a year and a half, two years ago, 25, 30 games into his career.
"He's got an unbelievable future. I think he'll play for Australia this year and he'll be our next five-eighth for NSW.
"And I don't sit here gloating. I don't sit here as a happy coach saying that. I firmly believe that.
"He's got Origin attitude the way he defends, the way he runs the football.
"He's got qualities of a representative player already as a young person and, as I say, I don't say that outlandishly."
Stuart said he was unconcerned about placing such heady expectations on the young super talent.
"I know I'm talking about big shoes to fill and (people will say), 'You're putting too much pressure on Ethan'. Bad luck, he'll handle it,'' the coach said.
"If you're ever going to make it in this game, you've got to handle pressure, and he will."
Raiders captain Joseph Tapine agrees Strange is something special.
"He's strong as well," Tapine said.
"And he's still young in his communication stage as well. When he starts to come out of his shell and open up and starts talking a bit more, it's going to go to another level.
"So it's impressive where he is at the moment, but exciting where he can get to soon."

Michael Ennis and Warren Smith have both declared that Jye Gray must remain as the Rabbitohs' starting fullback over Latrell Mitchell - not only for the rest of this season but for 2026 as well. Gray was superb again on Thursday night as Souths thrashed the Dragons 40-0. The diminutive fullback made a staggering 353 running metres from 31 carries, scoring a try and breaking three tackles. It was just 17 metres shy of the all-time record for most run metres in a single game (370) - set by Joey Manu last season. The Rabbitohs have now won seven out of 14 games when Gray has started at fullback in 2025. With Mitchell in the No.1 jersey, the Bunnies are just 2-5 this year - albeit against some higher-ranked opposition. Mitchell missed five weeks with a quad injury between Rounds 18 and 22, and played left centre when he made his return against the Titans in Round 23. But his return only lasted one game, and he's missed the last two weeks with a pinched nerve in his back. All up he's only played 11 out of a possible 23 games so far this year. Gray has been much more durable, playing 17 games at either fullback, five-eighth or off the bench. The Bunnies have the bye in Round 26 before a clash with the Roosters in the final round of the regular season. Coach Wayne Bennett is hopeful of having Mitchell back for one last game before their season ends, but he'll have to make a tricky call as to what position he plays. Michael Ennis says Jye Gray's form 'cannot be ignored' Speaking in commentary during Thursday night's game, Ennis and Smith declared there's no way Bennett can shift Gray. "If Latrell does return, surely he stays at left centre where he was a couple of weeks ago," Smith said. Ennis said: "You cannot ignore Jye Gray. He had four try-saves last week (against Parramatta). He had a try and another try tonight. I think Gray stays at fullback and Latrell goes back to left centre for sure." Smith added: "I guess the bigger question is, do they begin 2026 in that formation?" Ennis responded: "That will be fascinating." Crucially, the Rabbitohs face the prospect of losing Gray to a rival club if he doesn't get the playing time he deserves. Johnston's record with Mitchell at left centre is much better than without, and there were a number of instances on Thursday night when Tallis Duncan (a second-rower playing centre) went himself instead of trying to set up Johnston.

Meninga lashes out as Panthers premiership hero linked with move to Perth Bears
Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga has hit back at reports linking a number of stars to the new NRL franchise, with Panthers fan favourite Scott Sorensen among the latest to be tipped for a big-money switch. But Meninga says the reality is the Bears can't speak with any players until November 1, after shutting down some of the recent speculation. It's been widely reported that Meninga is eyeing superstars such as Cameron Munster and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui to become one of Perth's first marquee signings. It's been suggested the Bears are preparing a monster $7.5m deal for Gold Coast skipper Fa'asuamaleaui, who has an option in his current long-term deal that allows him to hit the open market on November 1. Four-time premiership-winning Penrith forward Sorensen is another name who has been linked with a switch to Perth. Veteran league reporter Phil Rothfield revealed this week that Sorensen is firmly in Meninga's sights, with the Panthers and New Zealand forward off contract at the end of 2026 and free to speak with rival clubs later this year. The experienced Panthers forward would add steel to the Bears' forward pack, in a similar way that Felise Kaufusi and the Bromwich brothers did when the Dolphins entered the competition. And with Sorensen off contract at the end of 2026, he'd be free to sign with the Bears for their inaugural season in 2027 as of November 1 this year. But Meninga said the truth about Sorensen and any other players being linked to the Bears, is that he is 'not allowed to talk to them' yet. The Perth coach says he understands that players coming off contract will naturally be linked the cashed-up franchise, but suggested any concrete links at this stage were purely speculation. 'All these people are being listed that we're interested in, they're all off contract next year. It's not that hard to put a list together. 'All these players are contracted and they're probably talking about staying on at their club a bit longer. We can't fit them in now. How am I going to say no to them all? 'It's difficult to keep the news out of the media. It's not created by us. People can make things up. We're not allowed to talk to them; we haven't expressed any interest. 'As I keep saying every week, if they're available we will probably talk to them. If we feel they're going to be a great addition to the roster, we will talk to them.' Sharks captain Cameron McInnes, Titans playmaker Jayden Campbell and Broncos outside backs Gehamat Shibasaki and Deine Mariner are among a number of other stars who've been linked to the Bears in recent days. Shibasaki and Mariner are both off contract at the end of 2026, and the Broncos have a well-documented salary cap squeeze to manage. Campbell and McInnes are also without a deal past 2026, and the signing of the Titans half would be a particularly huge coup for Meninga.
