Nigerian military kills more than 100 ‘bandits' in raid
Armed groups called 'bandits' by locals have for years been terrorising communities in northwest and central Nigeria, raiding villages, kidnapping residents for ransom and burning homes after looting them.
The military raid in the restive northwestern state of Zamfara was launched 'in the early hours' Sunday in the Bukkuyum local government area, where fighter jets in coordination with ground troops pounded a gathering of more than 400 bandits in their Makakkari forest camp.
The military's attack 'may have occurred in response to consecutive banditry, especially kidnapping, in the state in the previous month', the report said, noting a link between a recent decrease in military operations in the state and a spate of bandit attacks.
Bukkuyum's Adabka village was on Friday the scene of a bandit attack that saw residents kidnapped and 13 security personnel killed.

US, Pakistan hold counter-terrorism talks in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States held the latest round of the Pakistan-US Counterterrorism (CT) Dialogue in Islamabad on Tuesday, reaffirming their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Both delegations underscored the critical importance of developing effective approaches to terrorist threats, including those posed by Balochistan Liberation Army, ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. According to Joint Press Statement issued by Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson, the dialogue was co-chaired by Special Secretary for the United Nations, Nabeel Munir and US Department of State Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory D. LoGerfo. The United States applauded Pakistan's continued successes to contain terrorist entities that pose a threat to the peace and security of the region and the world. Furthermore, FO spokesperson remarked, the United States expressed condolences for the loss of civilians and members of law enforcement agencies in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, including the barbaric Jaffar Express terrorist attack and the bombing of a school bus in Khuzdar. Both delegations emphasized the importance of building stronger institutional frameworks and developing capabilities to respond to security challenges and to counter the use of emerging technologies for terrorist purposes. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to work closely in multilateral fora, including the United Nations, to promote effective and enduring approaches to counterterrorism. The statement further said that the Majeed Brigade has also been added as an alias to BLA's previous Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) listing, which makes it a crime in the US to provide support to the groups. BLA was first designated as an SDGT in 2019 following multiple terrorist attacks. Since then, the group has claimed responsibility for further violent incidents, including attacks carried out by the Majeed Brigade, the statement added. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that today's action underlines the Trump administration's commitment to countering terrorism. 'Terrorist designations play a critical role in our fight against this scourge and are an effective way to curtail support for terrorist activities,' Rubio said.
