The top five idols on the list in June are BLACKPINK's Jennie, IVE's Jang Won Young, IVE's An Yu Jin, aespa's Winter and BLACKPINK's Rose.
Singer and rapper Karina, one-fourth of the popular girl group aespa, is bearing the brunt of a recent political controversy. The 25-year-old, who is considered one of the top and most reputable idols in the industry, saw a significant dip in her brand reputation ranking for the month of June because of the controversy. According to the latest data released by the Korean Business Research Institute, Karina fell from fourth place all the way down to 26th in the June girl group member brand reputation ranking list.
The top five on the list are: BLACKPINK's Jennie, IVE's Jang Won Young, IVE's An Yu Jin, aespa's Winter and BLACKPINK's Rose. People on the internet were quick to notice such a dip in her reputation ranking and blamed her recent political controversy for the reason behind it. As reported by AllKpop, Karina's Korean fans took to the social media platform Pann Nate and shared their views on the latest brand reputation rankings.
One fan said, 'So does this mean Giselle is more popular than Karina now? Lol. Brand reputation rankings are just reference material. They don't define your level." Another added, 'If there were really damage from the controversy, her ad deals would've been pulled. But she's still got plenty of major campaigns."
'I've never seen any idol get this much buzz online because her brand reputation went down. Lol," added a different fan.
What is the controversy related to Aespa's Karina?
Karina got embroiled in an unexpected controversy over a picture that she posted on her personal Instagram account on May 27. In it, she was seen wearing a red and black varsity-style jacket with the number 2 printed on it. Karina captioned the post simply with a red rose emoji.
While the post at first seemed like just any other harmless update on social media, and it did not immediately raise any red flags, many Korean fans of the idol believed that there was a hidden political message. This post was shared at a time when South Korea was preparing for its 21st presidential Election.
Aespa's Karina is facing backlash from netizens for wearing the colors associated with a conservative political party and including the party's number and emoji in her Instagram caption. For international fans this is equivalent of being a trumpie pic.twitter.com/T2p7hOKlhy

In South Korea, the colour red is often associated with the People Power Party. The number 2 represents Kim Moon Soo, who was a candidate for the election. Many took to social media to express their frustration, accusing the aespa member of indirectly supporting a political candidate, even though she did not hint about it anywhere in the post. Following the backlash, SM Entertainment and the idol herself apologised to the public, clearing out all the misunderstandings.

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé & Lisa face backlash from BLINKs ahead of BLACKPINK's DEADLINE world tour; ask if it's 'time to stan another group?'

When a world tour is announced, it mostly brings in excitement and cheers from fans; however, it seems to have been doing the opposite for the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK. The four girls - Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa - who left YG Entertainment for their solo careers - will be reuniting as a group to embark on their "DEADLINE" world tour in Goyang, which will be held on July 5 and 6. Now it has been revealed that the group has no plans to release a new album and will only unveil their new song for the first time at the concert - a song which will be added to their only 32-song discography in their almost 9-year career. Seeing this, at first the fandom called BLINKs blamed YG, but now it seems their anger is also shifting towards the four members. baby it shouldn't be blackpink holding it! they're part of the problem too! — ken (@togejustvibin) June 23, 2025 What we know about BLACKPINK's new song? This concert will be their first public appearance as a group since wrapping up their BORN PINK tour in 2023. While there is no information about the title, concept, and full release details, YG confirmed that BLACKPINK began filming the music video on June 6. According to media reports, a renowned global filmmaker has been at the helm of the MV, which only rose anticipation for a high-impact comeback. Practicing where? They aren't even in the same country 😭😭😭😭 they don't care about their fans — n (@txsieslide) June 23, 2025 However, with nothing to show and just the news that the song will be out during the concert, BLINKs are removing their frustration on the four women who will be seen together after nearly three years. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé & Lisa face backlash Many BLINKs even believe that the four ladies - who have ventured into their solo careers with ease - seem to not have any desire to be part of the group. Especially on X (formerly known as Twitter), many were seen asking if they should start stanning another group, as they don't seem to be getting the love and respect back that they have been pouring into BLACKPINK. ALL OF THIS AND ITS NOT EVEN INCLUDED IN THE ALBUM. blinks we chose the wrong group I see — 𝖲𝖨𝖳𝖸 ✬ (@sittygs) June 23, 2025 blackpink don't care about us anymore, blinks shall we move to twice's fandom? — bp's attorney (@kiozru) June 23, 2025 In fact, there were many tweets circulating of some reselling their BLACKPINK tickets, which they had purchased once the tour was announced, after seeing the group is only releasing a song. Fans, having no clue if the members will be allowed by YG to perform their solo songs released outside the agency, feel they may be in for a repeat of the BORN PINK tour with just one extra song. Hardest pill to swallow, blackpink is the part of the problem too — Jane (@jnksxst) June 23, 2025 This group deserve to flop with the way they start tour with only 1 new song, dont even try to promote it properly, theyre intentionally hurting their legacy, treating fans as cash grab with zero dedication. I said this as someone who has been stanning bp since 2016 — ~ (@zvcxnnmoux) June 23, 2025 BLACKPINK's new Deadline world tour While the backlash continues, the group is set to begin their world tour in July. With this new MV, BLACKPINK is poised to enter a bold new chapter. The DEADLINE World Tour and its new track could redefine what the group stands for moving forward or it could also mean that this could be the final time the fandom sees them together as a group.

Squid Game season 3 premieres on June 27: Here's how much the previous seasons earned

Squid Game season 3: The wait is finally over! Netflix's hit Korean drama Squid Game is returning with its third and final season on June 27, 2025. Fans across the globe are eager to see how this intense survival game will conclude. Will Player 456 finally end the deadly game once and for all? Let's take a look at what's in store for Squid Game Season 3 and how much the previous seasons earned, making it one of the most profitable shows in Netflix's history. Squid Game Season 3: Release Date, Plot and Streaming Details Squid Game Season 3 premieres on Friday, June 27, and Netflix will release all six episodes at once. As usual, it will follow Netflix's global release pattern—12 a.m. PT and 3 a.m. ET. Viewers can binge-watch the final chapter right from day one. This season continues the story of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) as he deals with the trauma of losing his best friend. The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), whose identity was revealed in the last season, is now working behind the scenes to suppress a rising rebellion and bring back control to the twisted game. Squid Game's Global Popularity: A Record-Breaking Journey When Squid Game first aired in 2021, no one predicted how quickly it would become a global sensation. It was the first Korean show to top Netflix's global streaming charts, dominating in 94 countries, including the UK and the US. Within the first 17 days, the series had over 111 million viewers, and after 28 days, that number soared to over 142 million Netflix households. This crushed previous records, including Bridgerton's 82 million in the same time frame. Squid Game Earnings from Past Seasons The financial success of Squid Game is nothing short of extraordinary. According to Bloomberg, by October 2021, Netflix estimated the show had generated nearly $900 million, while the production cost was only $21.4 million—a stunning return on investment. Season 1 alone brought a return nearly 40 times the initial cost. Korean research group K Entertech Hub estimated that the first season generated approximately 1 trillion won from a 25 billion won investment. For Season 2, the production budget increased to nearly 100 billion won, approximately $73 million. Despite the higher costs, it was projected to achieve at least a 10-fold return. According to AInvest, Squid Game Season 2 earned about $891 million in the first three weeks after release—an impressive figure, though Netflix clarified that it does not calculate revenues per individual show due to its subscription model. Netflix Responds to Revenue Claims While various estimates have been made regarding Squid Game earnings, Netflix has stated that these numbers are speculative. A Netflix spokesperson said that the platform's revenue doesn't depend on individual show performance, as it operates on a subscription-based model. 'This approach may apply to cinema or pay-per-view models, but not to a streaming service,' they added. Despite that, the huge subscriber growth following Squid Game's success proved its undeniable value to Netflix. Why Did Squid Game Become So Popular? Squid Game's creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, originally wrote the script in 2009 but struggled to find funding due to its violent and unconventional plot. In 2019, Netflix took the chance as part of its push into international content, and the risk paid off. Hwang believes the show's popularity lies in its simplicity and strong emotional appeal. 'The irony of adults risking their lives to play children's games' struck a chord with audiences. The diverse characters, representing lower and middle-class struggles, created a deep emotional connection for viewers around the world. Squid Game: Still Netflix's Biggest Hit After Netflix updated how it measures viewership (total hours watched), Squid Game still held the crown. With 1.65 billion hours watched in the first 28 days, it far surpassed other major titles like Bridgerton (625 million hours) and Stranger Things 4. As of July 2022, Squid Game remained the most-watched Netflix series ever, showing the power of well-made international content. All Eyes on Squid Game Season 3 With Squid Game Season 3 just around the corner, fans are excited to see how this gripping saga concludes. The series has already changed how the world views Korean dramas and proved that non-English content can dominate global streaming platforms. From the staggering Squid Game earnings to its emotional storytelling, the show has left a massive mark on pop culture. Whether or not Season 3 lives up to expectations, one thing is clear—Squid Game is already a legendary part of Netflix's history.
