Charlize Theron won't ever name 'scumbag' director

The Advertiser2 days ago
Charlize Theron refuses to name the "scumbag" director she has accused of sexual harassment.
The 49-year-old actor previously opened up about an unnamed director she worked with early in her career, and accused him of greeting her in his pyjamas for an audition at his home, before putting "his hands on (her) knees", at which point she left.
Reflecting on why she has never revealed the identity of the director, she told the Call Her Daddy podcast: "I don't want the story to be about him. It's not because I'm protecting him or anything."
The Old Guard 2 star admitted the director "got nervous" after she initially opened up about the allegations on The Howard Stern Show in 2019.
"He got nervous for a little bit," she said.
"He heard me tell the story and he knew it was about him, and he wrote me a pretend letter trying to explain his behaviour and how I must have misunderstood it, which is classic, isn't it? It's so classic.
"I won't even f***ing say your name because you know you're the scumbag. You know it's you. If anybody ever asked me about him, I would be completely honest - and he knows that.
"I kind of like that he's got to be on a hot seat. He doesn't know when it's going to come. I kind of like that a little more."
The Oscar winner noted that at the time she "didn't know what the audition process looked like", but she still had a feeling that "this isn't right".
"It was this director's house. The little voice inside me definitely said, 'This isn't right.' But then, the other voice in me says, 'Well, I don't know. Maybe it is right.'"

Old Guard 2 director Victoria Mahoney hails Charlize Theron's dedication

Charlize Theron dedicated "1,000 percent of herself" to the action scenes in The Old Guard 2. The 49-year-old actress teamed up with Victoria Mahoney to make The Old Guard 2, and Victoria has praised Charlize for her whole-hearted approach to the project. The director told Deadline: "The thing about Charlize is, she comes hard, and she dedicates 1,000 percent of herself to every sequence, whether it's trauma or action, and it's visible. "People know that, for many years we've all seen it, and we've witnessed it. But there is something really electrifying to see it up close in person, and she doesn't leave anything on the field, as we say." Victoria hailed Charlize as the "engine on the Old Guard franchise". The director also suggested that the Oscar-winning actress actually helped to lift the performance levels of the film's cast and crew. She explained: "I worked in pre-production for months with our fight choreographer, Georgi Manchev to make certain that the action throughout the movie had some sense of emotion. "Obviously, and specifically the alley fight between Charlize's Andromache character and Veronica Van's Quynh character. It was vital that it had levels and layers and grounding in the heart, and this is why I mention this, I was excited when Georgi told me that Charlize was really moved the first time they auditioned the alley fight for her. Because, you know, it isn't easy to make audiences feel when two people are fighting. My belief is, if audiences don't feel anything in a fight scene, then what are we doing? "So, what happens when someone like Charlize comes hard like that to any role is that everyone on the ground, you know, crew rises up to meet her and help make her dreams come true. And I'm really proud of what we all accomplished, and, let me tell you, Charlize is the engine on the Old Guard franchise – without a doubt." Meanwhile, Henry Golding recently hailed Charlize as a "rare commodity in Hollywood". The 38-year-old actor stars alongside Charlize in The Old Guard 2, and Henry lavished praise on his co-star, observing that Charlize is one of the most professional people he's worked with. Speaking to People, Henry explained: "You know what it is? She leads from the front. She's like a rare commodity in Hollywood. "She is the female counterpart to a Tom Cruise. She's the producer. She's on set first thing in the morning, last at night, and she's creating what she wants and she's in there with the action. She's in there with the choreography." Henry believes that Charlize and Tom are unique figures in the movie business. He said: "She and Tom Cruise are some of the last of the movie stars."

‘Grease' star John Travolta's fall from $20M Hollywood paydays to box office bombs

Once among the biggest names in Hollywood, John Travolta is now more punchline than powerhouse, with recent flops and career missteps overshadowing a legacy that once included Oscar nods and million-dollar paydays. Despite iconic turns in Grease, Saturday Night Fever and a major comeback with Pulp Fiction, the 70-year-old actor's more recent efforts have failed to land. His latest films, High Rollers and Mob Land, barely registered with audiences — the latter pulling just £138 ($A287) at the UK box office, reported. Industry insiders say Travolta's staying power may have become his undoing. 'If Travolta had stopped after his Pulp Fiction comeback, he'd be remembered as one of the greats,' one Disney executive told news outlets. 'But now he's like that sad guest who overstayed their welcome at the party.' The reviews back it up. The Guardian labelled High Rollers 'a heart-slowing work of staggering stupidity,' while Rotten Tomatoes has yet to rate it — an awkward silence in itself. Travolta also holds the rare (and unfortunate) honour of scoring two films with a zero per cent rating on the site in the same year (Gotti and Speed Kills, both 2018). In recent years, Travolta has become a fixture in low-budget, straight-to-streaming thrillers known in the industry as 'geezer teezers' — a label popularised by Bruce Willis. These films trade on fading star power to drive rentals, with actors often appearing on screen for mere minutes. Travolta's career has also been dogged by persistent rumours and controversy. One missed opportunity? Turning down the lead in American Gigolo — a box office smash — allegedly over concerns about the film's 'gay subtext.' The role went to Richard Gere, launching him to stardom. It's a long fall for an actor who once lit up the screen — and the dance floor — but in Hollywood, comebacks are always just one hit away.

Host Megyn Kelly blasts ‘vulgar' Charlize Theron for touting one-night stand: ‘It feels weird'

Megyn Kelly launched a blistering critique of Charlize Theron, calling the actress 'vulgar' and 'off-putting' for revealing that she recently had a one-night stand with a 26-year-old man. The former Fox News host, who was portrayed by Theron in the 2019 film Bombshell, questioned the actress' decision to reveal the details of her dalliance on the popular Call Her Daddy podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper. 'She decided to go on a podcast tour, for some reason, sat down with Call Her Daddy, the sex podcaster who interviewed Kamala Harris, all about how much they love abortions,' Kelly said during Friday's episode of her SiriusXM podcast The Megyn Kelly Show. 'And this is Charlize Theron trying to sound like [a] super cool girl, and I'm gonna let you decide for yourself whether that's what she accomplished …' Kelly added: 'She's 49 years old. She's trying to sound like she's 26 years old, and it's inappropriate. It feels weird. She's one of our biggest stars, that's true. Act like it … Have some class.' Later in the episode, Kelly implied that Theron may be misrepresenting her sexuality and exaggerating sexual encounters for attention. 'I kind of call bullsh*t, because I believe that Charlize Theron probably prefers women. That's my belief. OK, I'm entitled to my opinion, and there's no reason to get into the details as to why I believe it, but I believe it,' Kelly said. 'And I don't think that she's telling the truth about the 26-year-old.' Theron, who is currently promoting the upcoming Netflix film The Old Guard 2, told Cooper during their conversation: 'I did just recently f**k a 26-year-old, and it was really amazing … I've never done that. And I was like, 'Oh, this is great.' Women should be the ones that are like, 'F**k you, I'm going to have an orgasm.'' The Oscar-winning actress has previously addressed questions about her sexuality. In a 2017 appearance on the Bravo television show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Theron was asked if she had 'dipped in the lady pond'. 'When I was young, yes,' Theron told Cohen. At the time, she was promoting her film Atomic Blonde, a spy thriller in which she portrayed a bisexual MI6 agent who was operating in Berlin during the Cold War. 'I mean, it's just so not big deal. I'm so old school — I really like dudes,' Theron said at the time. Theron went on to clarify that while she explored her sexuality in the past, she identifies as heterosexual and has spoken out in support of bisexual visibility in film. Kelly also criticised the actress' use of profanity on Call Her Daddy, saying: 'I love a good F-bomb … But every sentence? An F-bomb? 'F in this, F in that, F in God,' what is that? This is like an affectation where she's trying to act like, again, young, cool girl, 'I get it, and I don't need a man.'' Theron, a single mother, also spoke on the podcast about the freedom she feels raising her two adopted daughters — Jackson and August — without a male partner. 'She's got two children. They don't need a father? She's super proud of the fact that there's no father in the picture? Great. Good for you,' Kelly remarked. 'It's a very strange thing to see one of our best known actresses sit down like that, with the crossed legs, with this sex podcaster, talking about their orgasms and who they f**ked. It's just really off-putting.' Theron adopted her eldest child, Jackson, in 2012, and her second daughter, August, in 2015. In 2019, Theron revealed that Jackson is transgender, telling media outlets that Jackson asserted her identity at age three. Theron, who has never married, has been candid about her dating life. She was in a long-term relationship with actor Stuart Townsend from 2001 to 2010, and later dated Sean Penn between 2013 and 2015. She has been romantically linked to several others, including Alexander Skarsgård, Gabriel Aubry and Alex Dimitrijevic. Though she is reportedly on the celebrity dating app Raya, she has expressed frustration with the experience, calling it disingenuous and tiresome. Reflecting on what she expects from relationships now, Theron told Cohen in a previous interview: 'You better bring your A-game. I won't settle for less than what I'm giving myself.' Kelly closed her segment by contrasting Theron's behaviour with other stars she views as more tasteful. 'You never see Julia Roberts do this kind of thing,' she said. 'She's on the opposite side of the aisle, that's fine, but she doesn't debase herself [or] her attention, because she's a true star.' Theron and Cooper have not publicly responded to Kelly's remarks.
