Woman died of gunshot chest wound
A woman killed earlier this month died from a gunshot wound to the chest, an inquest has heard.
Pontypridd Coroner's court heard Joanne Penney, 40, was found by police, lying on her back and unresponsive on the living room floor of flat 10, Llys Illtyd, Green Park, Talbot Green in Rhondda Cynon Taf at 18:10 GMT on Sunday 9 March.
The court was told she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination gave a cause of death as "gunshot wound to left chest, involving heart and left lung pending toxicology and microscopy".
At the opening of the inquest, the court heard Ms Penney was born in Aberdare but was of "no fixed abode".
Senior coroner Graeme Hughes said Joanne Penney's death clearly involved "violence" and adjourned the inquest due to the ongoing police investigation into her death.
Six people have appeared in court charged in connection with the murder and were remanded in custody ahead of a trial.
Speaking after her death, Joanne Penney's family said they were devastated and described her as someone who was " loved deeply by all who knew her".

Convicted murderer put to death in fourth US execution this week
A South Carolina man convicted of a 2005 double murder was put to death by lethal injection on Friday, the fourth execution in the United States this week. Stephen Stanko, 57, was pronounced dead at 6:34 pm (2234 GMT) at the state prison in Columbia, the South Carolina Department of Corrections said in a statement. Stanko had a choice between his method of execution -- firing squad, electric chair or lethal injection. He chose lethal injection. Stanko was convicted of the 2005 murders of his girlfriend, Laura Ling, 43, and Henry Turner, a 74-year-old friend. He also raped Ling's teenage daughter and slit her throat but she survived and testified against him at trial. In a final statement read by his attorney, Stanko said he was "truly sorry for the pain and loss that I caused. "Sorry is never enough but that does not mean it should not be said." Stanko was the fourth Death Row inmate executed in the United States this week. President Donald Trump is a proponent of capital punishment and called on his first day in office for an expansion of its use "for the vilest crimes." John Hanson, 61, was executed by lethal injection in Oklahoma on Thursday for carjacking and kidnapping Mary Bowles, 77, from a mall in the city of Tulsa and then shooting her to death along with a witness, Jerald Thurman. Hanson had been serving a life sentence for bank robbery in a federal prison in the state of Louisiana but the Trump administration approved his transfer to Oklahoma so he could face the death penalty. Anthony Wainwright, 54, convicted of the 1994 murder of Carmen Gayheart, 23, a nursing student and mother of two young children, was put to death by lethal injection in Florida on Tuesday. Gregory Hunt, 65, convicted of the 1988 rape and murder of his girlfriend, Karen Lane, 32, was executed by nitrogen gas in Alabama that same day. There have been 23 executions in the United States this year: 18 by lethal injection, two by firing squad and three by nitrogen hypoxia, which involves pumping nitrogen gas into a facemask, causing the prisoner to suffocate. The use of nitrogen gas as an execution method has been denounced by UN experts as cruel and inhumane. Italy arrests US man over mother and child deaths in Rome park, source says
ROME (Reuters) -Italian police arrested a U.S. citizen on Friday in connection with the death of a woman and her baby daughter who were found dead in a park in central Rome, a judicial source said, confirming reports in Italian media. The man, who was not named, was arrested on the Greek island of Skiathos. The case has grabbed headlines in Italy since the mother and her child, who was a few months old, were found dead on Saturday in Villa Pamphili, Rome's largest central city park. Italian newspapers have reported that both the mother and child were also U.S. citizens, and that investigators believe the child was murdered and are still trying to establish the cause of death of the mother. Neither the mother nor the girl has been named. Prosecutors in the case were due to hold a press conference later on Friday at 16:30 (1430 GMT).

Man who murdered uncle and hid body in bank jailed
A drug dealer who kidnapped and murdered his uncle before hiding his body in a bank vault has been jailed for more than 34 years. Asghar Badshah, a 39-year-old bus driver from Bradford, was taken to a disused bank on Commercial Street in Batley by his nephew, Tahir Syed, on 30 November 2019 over a missing sum of money, Leeds Crown Court heard. Mr Badshah was beaten to death and his body was found behind a false wall in a vault four weeks later. Syed, 42, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to kidnap and drugs conspiracy offences on Monday and sentenced at the same court earlier. Syed and his associates had imported tonnes of cocaine and heroin to the UK in more than 30 shipments between 2016 to 2021, the court heard. Judge Thomas Bayliss KC said Mr Badshah had been asked to "hide a large amount of cash" by Syed, who then suspected Mr Badshah of stealing £600,000 from him. The court was told how Mr Badshah was kidnapped from his mother's address in Mayo Road, Bradford, in a Mercedes at around 01:35 GMT on the day of the murder and taken to the bank, where he was beaten with a metal rod. Syed lied to his family, the court heard, telling them that his uncle was still alive, knowing that in reality his naked body had been stored in an old vault in the disused bank. Judge Bayliss said: "I am quite sure that your primary purpose, was to detain and interrogate Asghar Badshah, in order to ascertain where the missing money was." Syed was jailed for a minimum term of 34 years and 153 days, taking into account almost four years already spent behind bars since being extradited from Turkey.
