Joanne Penney, who was 40, died on March 9 after being fatally shot in Llys Illtyd, Talbot Green. South Wales Police has now confirmed that Molly Cooper has been charged with participating in the activities of an organised crime group and acquiring ammunition for a firearm without a certificate in connection with Ms Penney's murder. Cooper, 33, from Leicester, appeared at Merthyr Magistrates Court on Monday, June 9, and has been remanded in custody. An inquest opening in March heard that Ms Penney died after being shot in the chest at an address in Llys Illtyd, in Talbot Green, causing injuries to her heart and lung. Emergency services found Ms Penney with serious injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene. In a tribute, Ms Penney's family said: 'We are devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved Joanne. She was a daughter, mother, sister and niece - loved deeply by all who knew her. Her kindness, strength and love for her family will never be forgotten.' A woman killed earlier this month died from a gunshot wound to the chest, an inquest has heard. Pontypridd Coroner's court heard Joanne Penney, 40, was found by police, lying on her back and unresponsive on the living room floor of flat 10, Llys Illtyd, Green Park, Talbot Green in Rhondda Cynon Taf at 18:10 GMT on Sunday 9 March. The court was told she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination gave a cause of death as "gunshot wound to left chest, involving heart and left lung pending toxicology and microscopy". At the opening of the inquest, the court heard Ms Penney was born in Aberdare but was of "no fixed abode". Senior coroner Graeme Hughes said Joanne Penney's death clearly involved "violence" and adjourned the inquest due to the ongoing police investigation into her death. Six people have appeared in court charged in connection with the murder and were remanded in custody ahead of a trial. Speaking after her death, Joanne Penney's family said they were devastated and described her as someone who was " loved deeply by all who knew her". Man dies after emergency services incident on bridge
A man has died after emergency services were called to a bridge near Risca on Wednesday (March 12) evening. Police confirmed that they were called at around 9pm to the A467 near Risca due to "a concern for safety for a person on the bridge." Officers from Gwent Police attended along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, but a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed. The A467 was closed in both directions between The Full Moon roundabout and Risca/Tesco roundabout and motorists were asked to avoid the area while emergency services responded to the incident. The road was later reopened.
