All PHCs in Pune district to be smart PHCs
In an initiative to improve rural healthcare, the Pune district administration has decided to upgrade all 108 primary health centres (PHCs) into Smart PHCs. The project is the joint idea of Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi and Gajanan Patil, chief executive officer (CEO) of Zilla Parishad Pune. There are currently 108 PHCs in the Pune district. However, they differ greatly in size, design, and the facilities they offer. The goal is to bring uniformity and modern amenities to all centres, they said. According to officials, in the past several years, PHCs were constructed in the district as per the requirements. The initiative will be funded by the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC).
According to the officials, a survey was conducted by the district administration to identify the gaps in the PHCs. During the survey, deficiencies in the infrastructure were identified that hampered healthcare services at the centres.
Gajanan Patil, CEO, ZP Pune, said, 'The initiative will greatly improve healthcare delivery in rural and semi-urban parts of Pune district and ensure that patients have access to modern, clean, and efficient medical services close to home. Some of the internal changes are at par with the private healthcare facilities and will give a corporate hospital look to the PHCs,' he said.
The need for changes in the infrastructure was identified to meet the Indian Public Health Standard (IPHS). Additionally, changes required in the tiles, colours, curtains water taps, etc., were identified, said Dr Sachin Desai, Pune district health officer.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, district collector, Jitendra Dudi, said, 'We aim to ensure that every citizen, regardless of where they live, has access to high-quality healthcare. Smart PHCs will bridge the urban-rural healthcare gap and improve patient outcomes. This initiative is not just about infrastructure. It's about creating a patient-friendly environment that uses technology, sustainability, and efficiency to serve the community better.'

CM Gupta directs officials to fast-track hospital projects, ensure IPHS compliance across Delhi
New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday directed officials to expedite the construction and upgradation of hospitals across Delhi and ensure that all government healthcare facilities meet the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). The chief minister chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of health schemes and infrastructure projects with senior officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department and the Public Works Department (PWD). Reaffirming the Delhi government's commitment to providing accessible, timely and quality healthcare to every citizen in the capital, Gupta reviewed the progress of various key initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the Vaya Vandana Health Scheme for senior citizens, the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and infrastructure upgrades across hospitals, according to an official statement. She said that over 2.95 lakh beneficiaries in Delhi have already been registered under the PMJAY, which entitles them to free medical treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh. Additionally, 1.23 lakh senior citizens have been enrolled under the PM Vaya Vandana Yojana and efforts are underway to expedite the registration of remaining eligible individuals. "Our objective is to ensure no one is deprived of proper treatment. A healthy Delhi is the foundation of a Viksit Delhi," said Gupta, adding the government is working round the clock to speed up hospital construction and modernization of existing facilities. She also emphasised that nearly 100 hospitals in Delhi are currently empanelled under the central health schemes and beneficiaries can also access treatment in empanelled hospitals across the country. On the infrastructure front, the chief minister issued strict instructions to expedite all hospital projects and ensure that they meet the Indian Public Health Standards. "Hospitals must be equipped with adequate staff, quality services, sanitation and essential medical equipments," she said. A major highlight of the meeting was the progress of the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs - health and wellness centres being established under the Ayushman Bharat Mission . The Delhi government plans to build 1,139 such centres, with 15 centres in each of the capital's 70 assembly constituencies. So far, 968 sites have been identified and work is already underway at 70 locations. "These centres will offer free primary healthcare services, health check-ups, essential medicines and health awareness campaigns," said Gupta, directing the district magistrates and chief district medical officers to monitor progress and ensure timely completion.

Expedite new hospital projects: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to officials
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Thursday instructed officials to expedite new hospital projects, and upgrade and develop all health centres as per Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). Gupta chaired a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat with senior officials of the Health & Family Welfare Department and the Public Works Department (PWD). The Chief Minister stated that 2.95 lakh beneficiaries have been registered under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), who are entitled to receive free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. She also said 1.23 lakh senior citizens have been registered under the PM Vaya Vandana Yojana, and instructions have been given to ensure the swift registration of the remaining eligible beneficiaries. She added that the increasing participation of citizens in these schemes reflects the effective ground-level reach and impact of the government's welfare programmes. She also mentioned that around 100 hospitals in Delhi are empanelled under these schemes. 'If a beneficiary requires treatment for a specific illness outside Delhi, they can avail free treatment at any empanelled hospital across the country,' the CM added. The Chief Minister also informed that construction work is underway on new hospital projects/upgradations, and all agencies concerned have been instructed to complete the work as soon as possible so that the public can gain timely access to modern and convenient healthcare facilities. She also directed that all hospitals under construction, along with those being upgraded, must adhere strictly to the IPHS. Moreover, these hospitals must be equipped with high-quality medical services, adequate human resources, essential medicines, sanitation systems, and medical equipment. During the meeting, she discussed the progress of PMJAY, the Vaya Vandana Health Scheme, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and various hospital infrastructure projects. The Chief Minister stated that the purpose of the meeting was to assess the current status of healthcare services in Delhi and to review the progress of various schemes and ongoing infrastructure projects. Following the meeting, Gupta shared that the Delhi government is committed to ensuring that every citizen in the capital receives high-quality, affordable, and timely healthcare. 'Our objective is to ensure no one is deprived of proper treatment. A healthy Delhi is the foundation of a Viksit Delhi. With this goal, our government is working 24×7 with full dedication and is accelerating both the construction of new hospitals and the modernisation of existing institutions at a war footing,' she said.
