Aamir Khan expresses interest in playing Lord Krishna in planned Mahabharat adaptation

The Hindu08-05-2025

Aamir Khan has once again expressed his interest in adapting the Mahabharata, calling it a long-cherished dream. Speaking at the India@2047 Summit hosted by ABP Live, the actor described the epic as a project he has wanted to pursue for years, though he acknowledged the challenges involved.
'Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharata, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh (It's my dream that I'm able to bring the Mahabharata to life, but it's hard to pull off)' Khan said. 'Mahabharata will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharata down,' he added.
Khan confirmed that the adaptation is being developed as a large-scale franchise, potentially spanning several films. He revealed that different directors may handle various parts of the project due to its scale, and that he may not direct it himself.
When asked about which role he would want to play, Khan said he is particularly drawn to Lord Krishna. 'Mujhe Krishna ka kirdaar bahot hi prabhavit karta hai (The character of Krishna captivates me)… I'm very inspired by him,' he said. However, he emphasised that it's too early to make any firm announcements. 'Main kuch badi cheezein bolna nahi chah raha hoon (I don't want to make tall claims just yet,)' he added.
Casting for the project, Khan said, will be based strictly on suitability for each role. 'We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part,' he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Aamir Khan breaks silence on his fallout with Ram Gopal Varma after Rangeela: ‘I'm sure I'll miss him as a director'

The 1995 cult hit Rangeela, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starring Aamir Khan , marked a turning point in Hindi cinema with its unique storytelling, vibrant visuals, and chart-topping music by A.R. Rahman. While the film garnered both commercial and critical acclaim, a behind-the-scenes controversy left a lasting impact on the relationship between its lead actor and director, one that led to the two never working together again. During an interaction with fans on Rediff, Aamir Khan was asked about the much-talked-about rift with Ram Gopal Varma. A fan wrote, 'What went wrong between you and Ram Gopal Verma? He is a terrific director and you would only stand to gain by your friendship!!' In response, Khan said, 'Ram Gopal Varma and I never did share a friendship, and I'm SURE I'll miss him as a director.' The controversy that caused the rift The fallout reportedly began when Varma made a comment during the shoot of Rangeela, referencing a scene that featured a waiter. He remarked that the actor playing the waiter gave a better performance than Aamir Khan in that specific scene. The comment, which was meant as a technical critique on scene dynamics, was misquoted and perceived as a dig at Khan's acting. Due to limited communication avenues at the time, Khan was unable to clarify the context directly with Varma. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Test gratuit pentru intoleranțe sau alergeni. 'Don't step out after...': This batter paid a huge price for not listening to Rohit Sharma, got mugged during...

Rohit Sharma with Team India. (PIC - X) New Delhi: A big revelation has been made about the star batsman of the Indian cricket team. Actually, this experienced batsman was robbed in 2012. This incident did not happen in India, but in the West Indies, which was revealed years later. Actually, this cricketer is the legendary test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who is currently out of Team India. Recently, during the launch of his wife Pooja Pujara's book 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife', Rohit Sharma narrated the story of how Pujara had to pay a heavy price for not agreeing. Actually, this incident happened during the Indian cricket team's tour of the West Indies in 2012. At that time Pujara was a part of the India-A team, when the team was in Trinidad and Tobago, he was robbed. During the book launch, Rohit asked Pujara about this incident of 2012, 'I haven't told. I mean, she is aware but she doesn't know the details. I am a vegetarian. So we were looking for a vegetarian meal at night. It was in TNT (Trinidad and Tobago) where we went out at 11 in the evening. We didn't find the meal but when we were walking back, I was mugged. I can't tell you in detail about it but that's the story he is referring to.' Rohit Sharma said that he had advised Pujara not to leave the hotel after 9 pm, because some areas of West Indies are not considered safe at night. Rohit told that Pujara had to go out to eat at night. Rohit said, 'Moral of the story is that he can be stubborn. We told him. We warned him not to go out in the night. Don't step out after 9 PM. This is the West Indies.' Both his ACL were gone. For any cricketer, leave alone if you are not an athlete or not playing any sport, for a sportsman it's very, very tough if you lose both your ACL,' Rohit Sharma said. 'We used to tease him about his running technique and all that but he managed to play more than 100 Test matches for India after that, a lot of credit goes to him for how he managed it. Great amount of dedication and passion he had to play the sport,' Rohit Sharma added.
