Aamir Khan expresses interest in playing Lord Krishna in planned Mahabharat adaptation
Aamir Khan has once again expressed his interest in adapting the Mahabharata, calling it a long-cherished dream. Speaking at the India@2047 Summit hosted by ABP Live, the actor described the epic as a project he has wanted to pursue for years, though he acknowledged the challenges involved. 'Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharata, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh (It's my dream that I'm able to bring the Mahabharata to life, but it's hard to pull off)' Khan said. 'Mahabharata will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharata down,' he added. Khan confirmed that the adaptation is being developed as a large-scale franchise, potentially spanning several films. He revealed that different directors may handle various parts of the project due to its scale, and that he may not direct it himself. When asked about which role he would want to play, Khan said he is particularly drawn to Lord Krishna. 'Mujhe Krishna ka kirdaar bahot hi prabhavit karta hai (The character of Krishna captivates me)… I'm very inspired by him,' he said. However, he emphasised that it's too early to make any firm announcements. 'Main kuch badi cheezein bolna nahi chah raha hoon (I don't want to make tall claims just yet,)' he added. Casting for the project, Khan said, will be based strictly on suitability for each role. 'We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part,' he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Aamir Khan hints at the possibility of playing Lord Krishna in Mahabharat, says, ‘I find him deeply impactful, very inspired by him'
Aamir Khan has never shied away from expressing his long-standing ambition of bringing the Mahabharat to the big screen. Over the years, the actor-producer has hinted at his vision of adapting the epic, but now the dream is officially taking shape. Speaking at the India@2047 Summit hosted by ABP Live, he opened up about the magnitude of the project and why it remains so close to his heart. ' Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharat, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh… (It is my dream to make the Mahabharat, but it's a very difficult dream…) see, Mahabharat will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharat down,' Aamir said candidly, underlining the responsibility such a revered story carries. He had earlier this month confirmed that the project is being envisioned as a grand franchise, with multiple directors helming different segments. When asked which character he would personally like to portray, Aamir shared, ' Actually… mujhe Krishna ka kirdaar bohot hi prabhavit karta hai… I'm very inspired by him. So that's a character I really love (Actually… I find the character of Krishna deeply impactful… I'm very inspired by him. So that's a character I really love).' However, he was careful not to reveal too much about the ambitious venture just yet. ' Kyunki yeh bohot bada project hai, toh main kuch badi cheezein bolna nahi cha raha hoon (Since this is such a big project, I don't want to say anything major right now),' he said, acknowledging the scale and sensitivity of the adaptation. Aamir humbly admitted that he isn't sure whether this dream of his will ever be fulfilled. But regardless, he emphasised the importance of bringing such a monumental story to life for Indian and global audiences. 'Chahe main banaun ya koi aur… hum chahenge ki Bharat mein yeh film bane aur hum duniya bhar ko dikhayein ki humare paas kya hai (Whether I make it or someone else does… we would want this film to be made in India and show the world what we have).' For now, he is focused on his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which is in the final stages of post-production. He said, ' Meri yeh soch hai ki meri ek dafa film release ho jaye… kyunki 20 June tak main kaafi masroof rahunga… jaise film release ho jaayegi… uske baad main kaam shuru kar sakta (My thought is that once my film releases—because I'll be very busy until June 20…after that, I can start working on it).'
