English star, 21, cruelly BANNED from bagging £58,000 winnings as she stuns field to win first European Tour event

AN ENGLISH golfer was cruelly DENIED from taking home a £58,000 cheque after winning the Women's Irish Open.
Due to Lottie Woad's amateur status her first-place winnings have been awarded to Sweden's Madelene Sagstrom, who finished second.

Woad carded a four-under final-round 69 to claim her first Ladies European Tour title in dominant fashion with a six-shot win.
The 21-year-old made history as the first amateur player in three years to triumph on the Euro Tour, finishing on 21-under overall.
Woad hit the front in windy conditions on Friday, extended her lead to seven strokes in Saturday's third round and made six birdies and two bogeys on Sunday to cruise home at Carton House.
But, she won't see a penny of the prize money for her incredible performance, with the top prize instead going to the runner-up.
This is because the LPGA prospect's amateur status prohibits her from pocketing any winnings.
If Woad held a professional tour card, she would've walked away five figures richer for her efforts.
Despite being banned from the winnings, Woad said: "No, I'm not tempted to turn pro yet. I'm still trying to get my final two points for the LPGA.
"I'm trying to get those and then we will see what happens after that. It means a lot to get the win."
A similar incident happened to fellow Brit Ollie Tarvet, 21, at Wimbledon last week.
The tennis player couldn't accept £99,000 in prize money he earned for reaching the second round due to being a US college student.
Two rushed to hospital after golf course fireworks display goes terrifyingly wrong near Taylor Swift's Cape Cod home
Sagstrom, with a final round of 68, finished second with England's No19 Charley Hull (69) in fourth.
She broke 70 across all four rounds to become the first amateur to win since Czech Jana Melichova clinched the 2022 Czech Ladies Open.
She won the 2022 Girls Amateur Championship, then followed that up with victory at the Augusta National Women's Amateur last year.
The Florida State University student is biding her time before hitting the big time.

Baseball legend Jimmy Rollins wins $325,000 boat after incredible hole-in-one at celebrity golf tournament

Former baseball star Jimmy Rollins won a $325,000 speedboat after a stunning hole-in-one at the American Century Championship on Saturday. The former Phillies, Dodgers and White Sox star made the ace on the par-three 12th hole at Edgewood on the shores of Lake Tahoe. It was the 46-year-old's first ever hole-in-one and his prize was a brand new Mastercraft X24. The boat was parked by the tee where Rollins took out a wedge and found the hole from 139 yards. He later had the chance to ride an X24 on the waters of Lake Tahoe. 'It's funny because last night I prayed for a hole-in-one,' Rollins said. 'And it happened to come true. Prayers were answered today.' He continued 'After yesterday's round, it was, like: "I just want to go out there and not embarrass myself, to be honest..."' "I got my first hole-in-one and won a boat." ⛳️🚤 What a day for former @MLB star Jimmy Rollins! — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) July 12, 2025 'But as we pulled up to the hole, the volunteer there said: "They got this right up there for you guys. They really want to give away this boat." 'I was like, "Oh, they do? She was like, "Yeah. It's right up front. All you have to do is land it to the right and let it feed to the left." Before taking his tee shot, Rollins even jokingly jumped on the boat and declared: 'This is mine'. He was playing alongside NFL star Davante Adams, who began shouting 'jump in the hole' after the ball landed. When it dropped, Adams ran over for a chest bump with the MLB star as wild celebrations broke out. 'He's a pretty big guy. I had to make sure I got off the ground. I'm only 175lbs! I'm not used to hitting men like that,' Rollins joked afterwards. 'What a great place to get it done... I've gotten close four times and the total distance that I missed it by probably adds up to about a 1ft and a half. When it went in, it was definitely a shock.' It is the third straight year that someone has hit a hole-in-one at the tournament, which brings dozens of celebrities to Stateline. Rollins revealed he may leave the boat in Tahoe, adding: 'I'm a California kid, doesn't take much to come up to Tahoe. Now I have even more of a reason.'

Rory McIlroy reveals real reason behind dramatic haircut in interview with Amanda Balionis

Rory McIlroy 's new trim may have not resulted in the look the golfer wanted, but the change seems to have sparked a positive swing in momentum at the time he needs it the most. The Irishman has seemed sluggish after his win at The Masters back in April, with poor results at the PGA Championship and the US Open. But with a short swing in Europe, McIlroy decided to shake things up with a fresh haircut he debuted at the Scottish Open. McIlroy chatted with CBS reporter Amanda Balionis after his third-round 66 on Saturday and chatted about his new hairdo. I'm getting a little gray, as everyone probably knows, and I stupidly thought that by going shorter, it would take the grays out,' McIlroy admitted. 'And if anything, I think it makes me look more gray. But it'll grow back. That's the good thing. It'll be perfect length for the Ryder Cup in September. Rory McIlroy shares the story behind his new haircut with @Amanda_Balionis 😂 — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) July 12, 2025 Rory McIlroy's new haircut may have been the change he needed - even if it didn't have the affect that he may have hoped when he went with a shorter style than he had weeks ago Balionis then quipped, 'It could be the good luck haircut, depending on what happens here tomorrow. Who knows?' There's something to that. Excluding match play, McIlroy has only carded five rounds of 66 or better since The Masters. Two of those were at the Travelers Championship and two of those have been in Scotland. While McIlroy finished T-6 in Connecticut, he's atop the leaderboard with American Chris Gotterup at 11-under going into Sunday's Final Round. If he manages to pull off the win, it'll be the first time McIlroy has won three tournaments in a single PGA Tour season since 2021-22 - when he won The CJ Cup, the RBC Canadian Open, and the Tour Championship. McIlroy has won three PGA Tour events in three other seasons - including the 2012 season when he won a career-best four tournaments.

'Something different' about Sweden, but Germany 'won't destruct'

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd says Sweden can go "the whole way" at Euro 2025 because "there is something different" about this thumping 4-1 win over Germany was a statement victory for Peter Gerhardsson's side, who claimed top spot in Group C ahead of the eight-time won the inaugural Women's European Championship in 1984 but have never lifted the trophy since - finishing runners-up on three occasions and last doing so in has been a recent tale of 'always the bridesmaid, never the bride', but this could be the year they finally shake off that tag after winning all three group matches, scoring eight goals and conceding just one."Of course we always want to win," said Sweden's Chelsea midfielder Rytting Kaneryd. "We always want to do better."We know we have been doing good in tournaments before, but we also know we haven't gone the whole way."I have a really good feeling. You can see that in the squad there is something different this year and we always believe."We want to reach the final and with that being said we need to take every game for what it is. We can't look too much ahead. It's going to be a challenge but we are ready."While they turned in an impressive display for a first success in seven meetings against Germany at a Euros, Sweden were also lifted to victory by a sea of 2,500 supporters in blue and yellow, who did not stop singing players celebrated and danced to music with their fans afterwards, which was a special moment for Rytting Kaneryd."I couldn't dream about more," said the 28-year-old. "This is incredible. I can't really explain the feeling."After the game you see all those yellow shirts, so many. We never thought it would be as big as it is. It's a really good sign that we have the support from Sweden." 'If we meet England, we are going to write a better history' Gerhardsson has been in charge of Sweden since 2017 but is set to step down after Euro winners of Group C, his side will face the runner-up of Group D and will know their quarter-final opponents after the conclusion of England's tie with Wales and Netherlands against France on Sunday (both 20:00 BST kick-offs).The 65-year-old led Sweden to the semi-finals of Euro 2022, where they were beaten 4-0 by eventual winners Gerhardsson said he is "not a dreamer", if he is to bow out with one last hurrah in Switzerland, his side will exact revenge if they land England in the last eight."That was a special game," he recalled of their previous encounter at Bramall Lane. "Now we have other players, they have other players."It didn't go well for us because they scored four goals, but that is history. Now it is a new game if we are going to meet England. We are going to write a new history, a better history, a good history." Germany aim to 'shake off' heavy loss Germany were backed as one of the pre-tournament favourites by many, but have been unconvincing so far in beat Poland and Denmark 2-0 and 2-1 respectively, but struggled to convert their dominance into goals and showed they were vulnerable in final Group C game against Sweden was always going to be the toughest test, and boss Christian Wuck repeatedly spoke of their desire to finish in top didn't go to plan, especially when they went down to 10 players from the 31st minute after full-back Carlotta Wamser was sent off for a deliberate handball to prevent a is hoping the loss - Germany's heaviest at a Euros - is nothing more than a slight setback."It is different than we imagined," he said of finishing second in the standings and a potential meeting with Group D leaders France in the last eight."We wanted to be first in the group, we wanted to be in place number one. Now we have to analyse that with the players."We will shake that off and be very happy to play the quarter-finals whoever that is, the English, the French or whatever."It would be wrong now to say we want to react and destruct. This is not in the team. We are not a team that wants to destruct."
