'A striker is a must' - fans' verdict on transfer window priorities

BBC Newsa day ago

We asked for your views on what Hibs need to do in the transfer window. Here's what some of you said:Maureen: We need a penalty box predator we can rely on to bang in 15-plus goals a season alongside Kieron Bowie. It's what Dylan Vente was meant to be, and Mykola Kuharevich hasn't quite delivered. Where is today's Leigh Griffiths or Derek Riordan? Oh, and pay whatever it takes to keep Rocky Bushiri.John: An attacking midfielder is required as not enough goals coming from the current players. A striker capable of 12-plus goals per season is also a must. Would be nice to see academy players get an opportunity.David: Hopefully not too much to simply keep the momentum going. Clearly a keeper to compete with Jordan Smith and fingers crossed we can re-sign Bushiri and Junior Hoilett. The comings and goings of Elie Youan, Vente and Nectarios Triantis will dictate much of our other activity but persuading Triantis to return should be a priority. Otherwise we will need a midfield replacement. Hopefully not the number of player incomings of previous years.George: With thanks to Smith for last seasons performances, it's a "sorry, but we need an upgrade" because there's too many flaws for him to be our No1. If we don't get Kuharevich back, we need another No.9 to lead the line and take pressure off Bowie. We are well covered in midfield if Newell gets fit and playing, plus Rudi Milotnikov comes in. Defensively, if Bushiri signs, we're fine, otherwise, we need another CB... Porto?Sandy: To improve you have to spend money, that's a football fact. Whatever it costs we have to shell out for Triantis and wage rises for him, Rocky and Junior - we have to keep these players. Further to that we need to shell out for another centre forward. For funding, sell on Vente and Youan, neither fit this Hibs model. Personally I trust our board to back David Gray.Kenny: We heed a goalkeeper and a centre-half. I have never been a fan of Big Rocky. He had a great second half of the season but he's suspect on the ball. A strong middle of midfield player and centre forward is a must. Strengthen the spine of the team and we won't be far away.Kevin: Triantis is a must to get. Keeps the flow of the game going forward where we can hurt teams.

The stats from a disappointing Premier League campaign

Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League in 2024-25, albeit with some contributing factors, such as injuries to several key players and a concentration on the Europa League in the latter stages of the Tottenham won the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League, their domestic decline was reflected in some alarming statistics:Only the three relegated clubs and 16th-placed Wolves conceded more than the 65 goals Spurs leaked in the Premier League in lost 22 games in the Premier League. The only sides who lost more were the bottom three: Ipswich, Leicester and had not finished outside the top 10 in the Premier League since 2007-08, a season in which they came 11th but also won the League Cup.

Bath v Bristol: Premiership rugby union semi-final

Update: Date: 2025-06-06T17:30:41.000Z Title: Preamble Content: It's been a strange old season in Premiership Rugby. Each week has featured loads of tries, mostly optional defences, levels of consistency akin to starting a 12 year old Vauxhall Corsa on a winter morning – and it's all been enormous fun. No two teams represent the sublime vs ridiculous nature of the year in English domestic rugby more than the two battling this opening semi-final at the Rec. Bath topped the league well clear of their nearest rivals and have largely laid down a template of sense (relatively speaking) throughout the season. Their near neighbours Bristol meanwhile have spent the year defending like a 15 dogs with the zoomies; conceding an average of 34 points a game, showing an allergic reaction to sense and yet somehow find themselves in the play-offs. All the sensible money is on a comfortable home victory here, but Bristol did win the previous meeting between the sides a few weeks ago albeit vs a weaker Bath selection. Whatever the outcome, if this season has taught us anything it's that it will be worth sticking around to watch it unfold.

EXCLUSIVE Newcastle make enquiry over deal for Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga as Eddie Howe looks to make his first signing of the summer

Newcastle have made an enquiry to Nottingham Forest over a deal for Anthony Elanga. Mail Sport can reveal that, while discussions are at an early stage, the Magpies are now pursuing a move for the 23-year-old winger. Sources say Forest would demand a sizeable fee for the Sweden international - who has three years to run on his contract – if he indicated he wanted to go. But the move marks Newcastle's first major play of the transfer window, with Elanga being a long-term target. Eddie Howe is a big admirer of the former Manchester United star and there was a deadline-day attempt to sign him during last summer's transfer window. That offer opened at £35million and, while it went higher, a deal was never close. It would take upwards of £50m for movement this time. Elanga, who scored six times last season, operates from the right wing - a priority position for Newcastle – but he is also versatile across the forward line, another key criteria for Howe.
