Tim Howard & Landon Donovan Disagrees On Matt Freese's USMNT Future Vs Costa Rica
Tim Howard and Landon Donovan don't agree about Matt Freese playing versus Costa Rica, as the New York City goalkeeper made a mistake that almost cost the USMNT the win over Haiti.

The USMNT is playing the Gold Cup, and the next fixture will be against Keylor Navas' Costa Rica. The former Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper has been in great shape at 38 years old.
Against Mexico, he delivered one of the best performances of a goalkeeper in the tournament so far, and that's something that worries Landon Donovan and Tim Howard.
While discussing the next game of the USMNT in their podcast Unfiltered Soccer with Landon Donovan & Tim Howard, Donovan suggested that, after the mistake Freese made against Haiti, Matt Turner should take his place.
"He's a fine goalkeeper[Freese]. But now you need to win the Gold Cup. And I know Matt Turner's not been great, he's not been playing a lot, but that's the guy you need to have in the goal. We saw what Keylor Navas did yesterday against Mexico. You need the guy who can make the play. So that's my bet. No one cares what I have to say. You're the goalkeeper. So that's kind of the back and forth we have. So I think Matt Turner should start going forward. I just I want to hear your opinion on all that." - Donovan said

Howard didn't like the fact that USMNT started the tournament with Freese and switch to Turner because of the mistake. On the other hand, he suggested a move that would have avoided the mistake made by Freese since the game wouldn't change a thing on the board.
"This was my point to you: you'd have been better off playing Matt Freese in Game 1, Game 2, right? Yesterday, on the board, was a nothing game, right? Play Matt. Turner. You can then actually go back to Matt Freese, because he's cooking, and he plays in the quarterfinal. Now, off the back of that mistake — which, again, whatever — you win the game, and those are the best times to make mistakes: when your team wins a game."
Tim Howard analyses the mistake made by Freese
The USMNT was winning 1-0 until Matt Freese accidentally handed the Haiti forward the ball. The play left everything even, but the national team managed to find a way to win with a late goal from Patrick Agyemang.

Howard during the podcast explained the way those type of situations should be handled, but also how different it is from the time he was playing.
"So one way or another, that ball needs to end up in the stands. He can't ever take that risk. But what I would say is mistakes happen, and there's a learning process, LD, and so he'll learn from that. I still think you can play in moments, but that ball has to go, and he needs to make a simple decision."
The former USMNT and Everton goalkeeper also stated that things would be handled differently if this happened to him in Everton.

"The problem is for all those people at home, football now is taught in a way on the training ground where it's play no matter what. See for me, when goalkeepers make mistakes now, they're just patted on the back, oh play again, keep playing. Where before, if I'd have done that, and you were in the dressing room, David Moyes would have absolutely throttled me, right? And so that plays a role, whether he should be playing or not."
For now, Matt Freese continues as the starter for the USMNT game versus Costa Rica in the Gold Cup quarter-finals.

Why did Micah Parsons demand a trade?
WHEW. It's been a Friday in the NFL, my friends. Things were already tense when it came to stud pass-rusher Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys, thanks to the do-it-all EDGE's demand for a new contract with 2026 free agency looming. But then? It exploded. MORE ON MICAH PARSONS: There was an initial report from The Athletic's Dianna Russini about how the "relationship has deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team." Then? It happened. He demanded a trade in a lengthy letter posted on X (formerly Twitter). So: What the heck happened here? Let's discuss: Micah Parsons' contract situation He's set to make over $24 million this year, but given the long list of his accomplishments, Parsons wants a new contract that will pay him what he deserves before he hits free agency. It's that simple. Jerry Jones' comments probably didn't help He took a random shot at Parsons before camp started. Micah Parsons still wanted to be with the Cowboys ... That is, until now. Will Jerry Jones and the Cowboys give in and trade Micah Parsons? Or will they give into his contract demands? Pure speculation here: Feels like this is one of those cases where Parsons has made his move, and maybe Jones realizes he could no longer play around and could offer a sizeable new deal. But if Parsons is truly done with the Cowboys? Let the phone calls to the front office begin! This article originally appeared on For The Win: Why Micah Parsons requested a trade?

NFL on the verge of selling media assets to ESPN for an equity stake in the network, AP source says
The NFL and ESPN are expected to announce an agreement next week under which most of the league's significant media holdings will go to the sports network. People familiar with the transaction said the multibillion-dollar deal would give the NFL an equity stake in ESPN. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been finalized. It was first reported by The Athletic. The NFL and ESPN had no comment. The NFL has been trying to sell its media properties for nearly five years. ESPN and the league have been involved in on-again, off-again talks for the past three years. The proposed move comes as ESPN is expected to soon launch its direct-to-consumer service, likely before the end of August. The service would give cord cutters access to all of ESPN's programs and networks for $29.99 per month. Most cable, satellite and viewers who have streaming services will receive the service for free as part of their subscription. ESPN would get access to the popular RedZone channel, as well as NFL Network and an additional seven regular-season games (six international and a Saturday afternoon late-season contest). A couple of weeks ago, ESPN announced that NFL Network host Rich Eisen's three-hour program would air on ESPN Radio as well as stream on Disney+ and ESPN+. 'The Rich Eisen Show' is not affiliated with NFL Network. ESPN has carried NFL games since 1987 and 'Monday Night Football' since 2006. Under the current TV contract, it will have the 2027 and 2031 Super Bowls for the first time. NFL Network started in November 2003 and was the second major pro league to have its own network. NBA TV started in 1999, MLB Network in 2009 and NHL Network in the United States in 2007. ___ AP NFL:
