Telsa chair, Robyn Denholm, sold stock worth $230 million as company profits plunged

New York Post15-05-2025

The chair of Tesla sold more than $230 million of company stock since Elon Musk's endorsement of Donald Trump triggered boycotts and protests against his cars, sending its profits and stock price plunging.
More than half of Robyn Denholm's cash haul came from sales in the first four months this year as Tesla stock fell by one-third, according to filings reviewed by The Associated Press.
In total, she unloaded hundreds of thousands of shares — more than half her holdings, as dictated by a pre-arranged selling plan filed with regulators as Musk began embracing right-wing politics.

Denholm filed that plan on July 25, the day Musk endorsed Trump for president.
Denholm's profits were likely outsized, too. That is because many of the shares she sold had been acquired through so-called options granted to her by Tesla years earlier that, given recent stock prices, allowed her to buy at a deep discount, according to data from research provider FactSet. Nearly a million shares acquired through options were bought for $25, less than a tenth of the market price for much of the last nine months.

The AP reached out to both Tesla and Denholm but did not receive an immediate reply.
A Denholm statement to The New York Times, which earlier reported on the insider sales, said that the share value of holdings by Tesla directors has jumped because the stock itself has soared, creating 'outsized returns' for all shareholders.

It's not clear why Denholm decided to cash out so much of her stake.

Pre-determined selling schedules are used by executives and directors as a way of telling investors that their selling isn't based on insider information, which is illegal, or necessarily a sign that they have turned pessimistic about a company.
Denholm isn't the only Tesla insider who has been selling. The chief financial officer and other directors have unloaded $189 million in stock in the same nine-month period, according to FactSet data.

But Musk's role as the government cost-cutting chief for Trump and his comments supporting extreme right-wing politicians in Europe have triggered a backlash among car buyers, and sales have sunk along with his stock.

Tesla reported last month that profits in the first three months of the year plunged 71%.
The stock soared again after Musk, the company's chief executive and biggest shareholder, said he would be stepping back from his Washington work to spend more time at the electric automaker.
Tesla closed at $347 a share Wednesday, up 4% for the day and more than 50% since its April low.

Elon Musk Unfollows Stephen Miller on X as He Takes His Wife

After days of unsubtle back-and-forth on X, Musk has now unfollowed Stephen Miller. The change in status occurred some time before 1 p.m. on Thursday, when X account Big Tech Alert publicized its discovery. The news comes one week after Musk reportedly poached Miller's wife, Katie Miller, who left DOGE to work for him full time. However, as of 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, Miller still follows Musk, meaning the sudden unfollowing is one-sided—at least for now. The unfollowing may be one-sided, but it's hardly unexpected. Miller has spent most of his time doing everything he could to thwart the former DOGE administrator, staunchly defending Trump's Big Beautiful Bill after Musk called it an 'abomination.' Without naming Musk explicitly, Miller took to X on Wednesday to correct his criticisms of the 'Big Beautiful Bill' after Musk told reporters he felt the bill undermined DOGE's work. Miller also called the bill 'the most essential piece of legislation... in generations.' Of course, there's also a personal undercurrent to their professional tension thanks to Katie Miller's career change. According to CNN, Katie is working in a communications capacity, helping Musk to arrange 'interviews unrelated to his time in government.' She's also on X, where she recently changed her header image to a photo of a SpaceX rocket, and responded with a heart emoji to a post asking, 'Who here loves Stephen Miller?' However, Musk's reasoning behind unfollowing Miller may not be personal. He also recently unfollowed conservative pundit Charlie Kirk, per Big Tech Alert. Rather than an escalation of his feud with Miller, Musk's recent following choices may be part of the Tesla CEO's sudden push to burn his bridges with the White House since departing DOGE on May 30. In the past two days, Musk has unleashed near-constant tweets condemning the Big Beautiful Bill and later, the president himself. Just minutes before followers noticed he'd unfollowed Miller, Musk began firing off an ongoing series of posts in response to Trump's comment that he was 'very disappointed' in him for opposing the Big Beautiful Bill. In one post, Musk wrote, 'Without me, Trump never would have won the election.' In a second, he added, 'Such ingratitude.' Musk has only gotten more extreme with his post-breakup comments in the hours since unfollowing Miller. Most recently, he took to X to accuse the president of being 'in the Epstein files,' concluding his rant with, 'Have a nice day, DJT!'

Stephen Miller Breaks Silence With ‘Pork' Prod at Elon Musk

Stephen Miller has broken his silence after Elon Musk turned on his billionaire bestie, Donald Trump. The deputy chief of staff, usually a prolific social media poster, had been silent for hours online after the volcanic fall out between the two men, despite social media erupting with Musk's bombshell allegations including a claim that the president was named in the Jeffrey Epstein files. It comes as Miller's wife, Katie, followed Elon Musk out of the White House and DOGE duties last month, reportedly for a new job working with the tech billionaire. While Miller did not tag Musk or mention any of the billionaire's personal claims about Trump in a belated Thursday night post, he instead took a jab by referencing a comment made by the 53-year-old earlier this week. 'The only 'new' spending in the bill is to defend the homeland and deport the illegals—paid for by raising visa fees. All the other provisions? Massive spending cuts. There is no 'pork' in the bill. Just campaign promises," Miller wrote. Miller was quoting a pointed comment made by Musk which claimed Trump's bill is a 'massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill,' adding it 'is a disgusting abomination.' The Trump confidante followed the veiled comment with another late-night post that read, 'Still trying to figure out what the objection is to a bill that combines record tax cuts with record spending cuts with record deportations.' Miller's relative silence on the issue was in stark contract with his flurry of posts throughout the week as the Musk and Trump drama boiled over, and the Trump adviser went on a posting spree in an attempt to save the bill's reputation. Miller also pulled out on a scheduled appearance on Larry Kudlow's Fox News show on Thursday afternoon, with the host apologizing for him. 'We lost Mr Miller to a meeting in the Oval Office,' Kudlow said. 'Perfectly understandable, when I was in government it would happen all the time, you'd have to kill a TV show, you're at the president's beck and call.' Miller then appeared in a White House discussion alongside Senior White House officials Taylor Budowich, Russ Vought and James Braid discuss Trump's 'big, beautiful bill.' The half-hour YouTube video was posted Thursday night, with Miller the first to speak. 'The most important thing in politics in American is honoring the promises you make to the American people, the sacred trust between the voter and the man they elect, in this case the president of the United States,' Miller said, noting the president made numerous promises on the campaign trail that 'are codified in this legislation.' Miller reposted numerous videos uploaded from the discussion to X by the White House's Rapid Response team. Musk earlier unfollowed Miller's account on X on Thursday, in an unfollowing spree that also included right-wing media personality Charlie Kirk. Appearing on Kirk's podcast on Thursday, Kirk said to Miller, 'I want you to say again that this would be one of the greatest legislative accomplishments in Republican party history.' Miller began the interview by telling Kirk, 'You've been such a critical element of the success of the MAGA movement. I hope your audience appreciates how much we appreciate you.' The interview descended into both men talking up the 'big beautiful bill.' 'If Ronald Reagan had just done no tax on tips, they'd still be giving speeches today about it at the Reagan Library,' Miller claimed. 'There'd be whole statues, there'd be museum displays, they'd have entire industries built off just telling the story of when Reagan did no tax on tips. Isn't that right Charlie?" The 30-minute discussion did not mention Elon Musk calling the bill a 'disgusting abomination' or his wife Katie's employment status. Miller did say he was 'optimistic' the bill would be passed 'because I have faith in the power of the Trump voter.'

EU voices support for ICC after US sanctions judges

BRUSSELS (Reuters) -The European Union strongly supports the International Criminal Court, European Council Antonio Costa said on Friday, adding that it is "a cornerstone of international justice". His comments came a day after President Donald Trump's administration imposed sanctions on four judges at the International Criminal Court, an unprecedented retaliation over the war tribunal's issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a past decision to open a case into alleged war crimes by U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
