Police say driver who plowed into Liverpool soccer fans acted alone, not believed to be terrorism
The driver arrested was believed to be the only one involved and the crash was not being investigated as an act of terrorism, police said.
Ambulances took 27 people to the hospital, including two with serious injuries, and another 20 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, said Dave Kitchin of North West Ambulance Service. At least four children were injured.
Four of the victims, including a child, were trapped under the van and firefighters had to lift the vehicle to free them. A paramedic on a bicycle was also struck but was not injured.
'It has cast a very dark shadow over what had been a joyous day for the city,' City Council leader Liam Robinson said at a late night news conference.
As the parade was wrapping up, a gray minivan turned onto the parade route and plowed into the sea of fans wrapped in their red Liverpool scarves, jerseys and other memorabilia. A video on social media showed the van strike a man, tossing him in the air, before veering into a larger crowd, where it plowed a path through the group and pushed bodies along the street before coming to a stop.
'It was extremely fast,' said Harry Rashid, who was with his wife and two young daughters as the minivan passed by them. 'Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car.'
Rashid said the crowd charged the halted vehicle and began smashing windows.
'But then he put his foot down again and just plowed through the rest of them, he just kept going,' Rashid said. 'It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people.'
Rashid said it looked deliberate.

One of the victims can be seen in the video laying on the floor without his turban, while another can be seen getting kicked and punched.(X/@officeofssbadal) British Transport Police (BTP), cited in a BBC report, said it was aware of a purported video of the attack surfacing online, showing the two victims getting assaulted. One of the victims can be seen in the video laying on the floor without his turban, while another can be seen getting kicked and punched. In the video, a woman can be heard saying, 'These two men have just gotten beaten up by these white men.' Viewer warning: Disturbing visuals 'What are you doing!' the woman, seemingly capturing the video, then shouts. The attack took place at about 13.45 BST on Friday. The victims were taken to hospital for treatment and were discharged later. The suspects, aged 17, 19 and 25, were bailed pending further inquiries, according to the BBC report. The assault drew sharp reactions from Sikh leaders in India and even Sikh Federation, a UK-based Sikh rights body, which on Monday condemned the the racist attack. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal took to X and said he strongly condemns the horrific attack during the course of which 'one Sikh's turban was removed forcibly.' This racist hate crime targets the Sikh community, which always seeks Sarbat Da Bhala (the well-being of all), Sukhbir Badal wrote in his post, adding that the community deserves safety and respect worldwide. He urged West Midlands Police and the UK Home Office to act swiftly and also appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to raise this issue with the British government to ensure the safety of the Sikh diaspora. 'Meanwhile, I appeal to all Sikh brethren settled abroad to support each other in this hour of need,' he wrote. The Sikh Federation said in a statement that the elderly gentlemen, both local taxi drivers, were on duty outside the station. "A group of three white men exited the station and approached one of the drivers and demanded to be taken to Oldbury. One of the drivers told us they were very rude and abusive and ordered him to take them. He explained that the system does not work this way and that they would have to go into the taxi rank and book from there. But they were not interested or listening, instead they continued with their swearing and abuse,' an Indian Express report quoted the UK body's statement.

Matthew Perry death: Final suspect, ‘Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha ready to plead guilty for drugging actor that led to his death
It's been almost two years since beloved FRIENDS star Matthew Perry died from a drug overdose. Now, the fifth and final suspect in his death investigation is set to plead guilty. Jasveen Sangha, known as the 'Ketamine Queen,' has reportedly agreed to admit to supplying the drugs that led to Perry's death. The actor was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. His autopsy confirmed the cause of death as the acute effects of ketamine. Matthew Perry, best known as Chandler, succumbed to this powerful drug that is supposed to be used only under medical supervision. Federal investigators launched an investigation into his history of drug abuse and the source of obtaining the same. What they uncovered was a whole underground ketamine supply chain that involved a lot of Hollywood celebs. Forty-two-year-old Jasveen Sangha, the American-British dual national, is one of the prime leads in the case. According to the BBC, she will plead guilty to five federal charges, including distributing ketamine that directly caused Perry's death. She originally faced nine charges, but some were removed because she accepted the plea. So far, five people have been charged in the case. This includes, drugs like cocaine, meth, and Xanax Erik Fleming: The 55 years old worked with Sangha acting like a chain to sell drugs. Together, they sold 51 vials of ketamine to Perry. The same was delivered to the actor by his assistant. Fleming had pleaded guilty and is facing 25 years in prison. Kenneth Iwamasa, 60: Matthew Perry's assistant for decades, Iwamasa, admitted to injecting the actor with ketamine doses, including on the day Perry died. He awaits his sentencing. Dr. Salvador Plasencia: The doctor who supplied Ketamine doses to Perry through his assistant. Plasencia earlier this year pleaded guilty, but not for the exact doses that killed Perry. He pleaded guilty last month to four counts of distribution. Dr. Mark Chavez: Another doctor who prescribed Perry ketamine also pleaded guilty last year. After Perry's death, Sangha and Fleming deleted their Signal messages. Recovered text messages even show Fleming at one point saying, 'I never dealt with Perry, only his assistant. So the assistant was the enabler. I'm 90% sure everyone is protected.' According to the prosecutor, Sangha could face up to 65 years in federal prison.'
